Just saw Django [MERGED~> !SPOILER ALERT!]

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

BGOL is a very schizophrenic forum. This a place where brothas will vilify a sista who dates CACs but then go ahead and make numerous pussy posts of white and non-Black women and justify brothas dating and marrying non-Black women.

A place where gun violence and the senseless killing of our children is abhorred but when gun violence happens in white community it's all "heh, I don't care" :dunno: Or a place that claims to be Pro-Black but posters talk disparagingly about black owned businesses and won't take a stand against clearly racist store owners in black communities?

This isn't even about the movie, which I thought was very entertaining, this is about the faux outrage and fake moral high ground that most of you dudes project.

How ironic is it that in this very thread a Brotha said he couldn't support the excessive use of ****** in a movie but in the very next post he quoted another poster and called him a nigga!! Or how about claiming that you won't support a CAC director but then proceed to request links for screeners as if that is really what a boycott is? If you really didn't want to support QT then don't watch his flick, period! The same dudes talking that big game are the same ones downloading and stealing their favorite artists music, comics, e-books, movies. :smh:

My biggest issue with people who are criticizing the movie is, they're the same people who criticize movies about slavery that dance around the issue. They say that's patronizing. Can we really have it both ways?

:dunno:
Most of the people that have been most vocal against this flick are the same people that have said Hollywood would NEVER make a film like this. Well, it's made, but now there seems to be something else to complain about now.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

no disrespect, but that is an asinine question. bambozzled was satire. some of the issues touched on in that movie can be applied to django. rappaports character was intended to represent the attitudes of some whites in hollywood(tarantino?). for you to bring this up tells me you completely missed the entire point of this underrated movie.

Why do you niggas keep responding to this fucking hypocrite?.. Motherfucker been crying for days about the N-Word in Django, but he's defending Bamboozled?... How many times was ****** said in Bamboozled tho?..

But hey, it was satire and the director is Black so that makes it ok..

bambazzoled is satire cool. so is django an accurate reflection of history that should be on the history channel? do you think it made whites look good at that time? spike's beef is a knee jerk reaction at best because a wht director made a film about slaves and had the audacity to use accurate vernacular. from my count, a handful of blks died in the movie. way more wht ppl died. how do you justify killing without showing the ignorance and racism for buildup? spike seems jealous because his style on a subject matter like this would be boring. he should take advice from his own movies. the people dont come cause you grandiose mothafuckers dont play what the people like

not once did I say anything about the word nigga being used In django, wtf are you talking about. my issue is with the overall premise of the movie. did you actually understand bamboozled? do you even know the meaning of satire.

Ahhh thanks for taking the bait.

No disrespect friend but reread the preface to my question: "Without having seen 'Django'...

Spike himself stated that he has not or will not see 'Django' because it would be "disrespectful to our ancestors". So he came to a factual conclusion about a piece without having seen the piece!

I use 'Bamboozled' as a credibility argument. By Spike's same rationale, in 2000 Cornell West or other prominent Black voices could have made the same argument against 'Bamboozled' without having actually seen the CONTEXT of the messages, dialog, characters, plot. For surely the ministrel shows were "disrespectful to our ancestors" as they nationally depicted Blacks as subhuman buffoons and marginalized the Black / Slave experience in America during the late 1800s.

I love 'Bamboozeled' and I wrote papers on the different thematic elements of the piece. It is a slept on satire, but from a cursory analysis it too can plainly be offensive. But as you stated friend it is a satirical piece. So by your own admission satire is exempted from the type of criticism that 'Django' is receiving, but without having actually seen the movie, how can the very vocal naysayers make a conclusion without having seen the context of the story?

And ironically the only real criticism I'm reading is the use of the N word, but as I stated above Michael Rapaport's character used it in modern times to belittle a Harvard educated TV exec, but of course you wouldn't know that unless you actually watched the movie.

well obviously you dont. and if you have a problem with the premise of the movie then you should have a problem with inglorious basterds as well

but they didnt. bamboozled was obviously satire and promoted as such. youre reeeally reaching with this bruh. those images of ministrel shows were used to expose and educate for the benefit of our people, which was obvious from damn trailor. I see the point youre trying to make, but I completely disagree.

No I'm not reaching I'm asking a valid question: how can you make a powerful unsubstantiated statement that a work is disrespectful to OUR ancestors without having context of the story or plot devices?

And I'm curious: how is 'Django's' being marketed? And what is your beef with the movie if you haven't seen it?

This debate intrigues me..

lol now there are levels of obvious which everyone should have? spike doesnt. and plenty of django is satire. theres a part where they think they have django and schultz surrounded and it makes them look like idiots. see the movie then come back and tell me who came off looking bad.

My man said "obviously"... :smh: but yet still didn't distinguish the initial question.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

None of this has anything to do w/ consciousness...you've used up two whole posts to just rehash the same argument which I'm not really interested in...I took issue tho w/ someone saying you can't be conscious and on a porn board and this drawn out response doesn't address that...I think you might be confusing 'conscious' w/ 'conscience' :dunno:

Exactly.

No, I am not. The same e-militants that hate this movie based on exploitation purposes ("it's disrespectful of our ancestors") love all that over shit too which is nothing but black exploitation. Especially the porn; fuck THAT'S the initial reason we all come to this site. Please explain to me how black women taking ass to mouth and drinking cum is uplifting to anything besides my dick.:hmm:

Porn is not what initially brought me to this site. :hmm:

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

Just got back from the theater watching DJango unchained and the shit was great. I think it is the movie of the year.

Jamie was great. Kerry showed them titties. Sam Jack is great and the best cursing mofo in the history of hollywood but QT stole his character as he is a juxtoposation of Uncle Remus (boondocks) and the Black White Supremist (Chapelle) or at least that's how Sam Jack played the role. The film was wildly entertaining and while it was long, I didn't want it to end.

There is some very uncomfortable imagery in the film and the use of the N word was gratuitous but there is nothing remotely offensive to the movie. I think the dialogue was fine considering the context. Nothing out of place for the 1800's or even the 1960's. I'll just say this, if a Black Director made this exact same movie, we would call it the best movie in years!

I am a Morehouse Man and a screenwriter so needless to say, I love Spike Lee's shit but he aint made a "Movie" (his documentaries have been on point) as entertaining as Django since Inside Man and I would venture to say that I was more entertained about Django than Inside Man. Just my personal opinion.

On the topic of race. We have get over this obsession with the word nigga and white's use of it. Contemporary Black Culture is fueled by moving forward and overcoming. We often define ourselves our ability to keep steppin and create new/fly shit. This is why the entire world loves the Black American culture. But for some reason we lose our shit when white people say or use Nigga. I swear I don't get this!

If someone said BGOL is a wack board, you'd say they don't know what they are talking about. If someone said Michael Jackson wasnt a great entertainer, you'd say they were a fool.

If I called you an idiot, you'd say that I must be silly cause you are not an idiot and never been an idiot.

Your forefathers are not niggas and never have been a nigga so dont sweat it. Who gives a fuck what some silly ass racist perceives us to be!

Why when a white person uses the word nigga then we are obligated to kick their ass or boycott or at least show some sort of emotion. In the past White people called us Niggas to demean us and show their social dominance over us.

Now a day's white people call you a nigga to show that they still have control over your emotions. Why can't we see this? It is unbelievable that an otherwise emotionally stable brother would resort to beating a white dudes ass for getting called a name that doesnt carry any significance. That brother would risk his livelihood by being arrested just to "not let that white man get away with saying/calling me a nigga!"

You become a nigga the moment that you stand in line for that Mug-shot for beating a white man down for calling you a nigga.

We don't dress like we dressed in 1865, shit we don't dress like we did in 2005. Why, because the shit is played out. But for some reason, we won't allow White's use of Nigga to play itself out. That shit is passe and we give whites power and the use of nigga power as an offensive slur by even dignifying/acknowledging it!

It's 2013, let's focus our emotion on something that matters!

I don't know how it was marketed, but I can tell you this. The theatre I go to has NEVER had that many black people in there at once. And I won't even get into the usual hood nonsense that occurred that usually never happens there any other films. There were maybe a few whites scattered around the room. Made me a bit nervous at first because I kept thinking "I hope one of these CaCs isn't going to shoot this place up and mass kill black people."

That shit was funny, especially the part with Jonah Hill. Really made those white people in this film look like fucking idiots with no organization. Almost to the point that you wonder, "how the fuck these dumb assed CaCs keeping us enslaved" which also tied into some of the fuck shit that DiCaprio's character was spouting later on in the movie. And at no point in this film, as I said in my Rocky Review a few pages back, did they portray black slaves as being dumb or inhuman. It was pretty much the complete opposite. That said, all these idiots talking shit about the film and haven't seen it are just talking OUT THE ASS! It's like trying to have a discussion about PC Technology with an idiot who can't even use a keyboard and mouse.

Django Unchained - FILM REVIEW
by
Rocky Miavia

Django Unchained is Quentin Tarantino's latest film about a freed slave who becomes a bounty hunter in hopes of freeing this enslaved wife. The film is set in 1858. As with most Tarantino films expect blood, gore, great dialogue, iconic characters, and Samuel L. Jackson to pop up somewhere.

Django Unchained has a powerhouse cast of actors driving this film to greatness. Samuel L. Jackson did the damn thing as the Uncle Ruckus-like Mr. Steven. I swear this dude must've studied episodes of that character from The Boondocks to prepare for his role. Jamie Foxx starts out the film very low key, but his character flourishes about mid way into the storyline when he takes up bounty hunting with Waltz. Kerry Washington is fine as fuck (never gave her a second look till now). She did a very good job of using her eyes to convey the range of emotions her character went through. Leonardo DiCaprio's character, Calvin Candie, was an intriguing character in that he had a level of complexity unexpected for the role of a plantation slave owner and mandingo fight manager. Christoph Waltz, who played Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds, stole the show once again as Django's mentor/partner. It was almost like Waltz was playing a good version of Hans Landa in the wild west. Seriously, has this guy won any awards in the past because he's overdue. Also notable are performances by Walton Goggins (Shane from The Shield), a KKK cameo from comedian Jonah Hill, and the enigmatic Don Johnson as a slave owner named Big Daddy.

The film was bloody, unforgiving, funny at times, and highly entertaining. Tarantino's combination of western and slavery period picture is a strange mixture that works. Slaves in this film were not portrayed as dumb and inhuman. In fact, the humanity of the slaves was portrayed many times in contrast to the inhumanity of the white characters in this film. The film truly shows the evil of whites back then and the despair of slaves who are being forced to do things they know to be wrong. Once again, these actors like Kerry Washington did a good job of conveying emotion with their eyes during some of the horrible acts committed here. And yes, the N-word was used frequently for both identifying blacks and some comic value. Now I know BGOL's e-militants have been on this Spike Lee bullshit in reference to this. Guess what? This is a PERIOD FILM set in 1858. WTF do you expect whites to refer to us as back then? It's a horrible reality, but one you should be ashamed of to help continue IF you use the word yourself today.

Django's path of revenge, recovery, and redemption is an overly long, hyper violent ride but worth the stay. That said, the film is about 20-25 minutes too long. Not in the way most Tarantino films are though. There's not a lot of wasted dialogue and scenes of people doing casual stuff on screen as in most of Tarantino's films. It was just that the final act, while action packed, seemed to do something extra to prolong the end game. Seriously, people in the theater started looking at their watches like "WTF?" when the movie seemed ready to end but didn't. The ending, when it came, was VERY satisfying and I think most of BGOL will be pleased with it. So yes, Tarantino can do westerns too. This guy has touched on a lot of film genres successfully. What's next, sci-fi? Hard to say, but one thing I do know is Django Unchained was well worth my ticket price and time tonight thanks to strong performances from talented actors and seeing a black man get paid for killing white folks. Peace!

Trust me, you have to look very hard and pause the movie to even see that hint of a nipple her body double showed.

Damn. X-Man26, you perv! Over there overselling shit. Trying to halt my revolution.

Almost had me going against Spike! :D lol.

Kerry doesn't have a problem with nudity. She does it all the time...

The movie glorifies Django, and vilified southern whites period. That scene with the hoods was hilarious, didn't expect to see Seth Rogan steal a few lines.

Also, you're spot on about cats being in class without doing the readings. Flash back to grad school days looking at this thread. Everybody deep for being deep sake.

Good flick, shit was long as helllll tho

Man this shit was fan-fucking-tastic, loved it more than Inglourious. Can't wait to see this again

Plus the film broke a boxoffice record for a R-rated film opening on Christmas day. 15 milly....be mad, bitches

Damn. Didn't know that. And I have been thinking about seeing it again too. Probably missed some stuff the first time. Maybe the link will be dropped soon.....what's up with those screener dvd's? Upload that shit.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

Made the overseers out to be slack jawed yokels......lol
Exactly. And yet these dummies still talking that stupid shit despite that fact that this movie really put the white people in the dunce chair. Even Samuel L. Jackson's Uncle Ruckus-like character was smarter than his own master. Even to the point where he talked pure cash money shit to DiCaprio's character most of the time.

Had most of these TROLLS (including the e-militants as such) actually SEEN this film this thread wouldn't even be 8 pages of back and forth discussion right now. Whenever they download and watch it I bet they'll shut the fuck up quick. Sore grapes ass motherfuckas.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

Saw the movie, loved it. A black man killing white people like it should be and saving his black woman from being raped beaten and tortured. That's the absolute BIDNESS. Loved it. And i loved her at the end with the rifle.

Great movie. Some things were a little weird to me, Django reading was weird to me. They never explained that. How he and Brunnhilde were married needed to be explained. And the way the german dude all of a sudden loses his cool out of nowhere was out of character to me as well.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

Cosign you two brothers.

I have a question for those who have not and will not see 'Django' and agree with Spike Lee's assertion that the film is "disrespectful" to our ancestors yet he did not see it:

Without having seen 'Django', how can you reconcile your "outrage" over the film, which factors in pre Civil War Whites calling slaves derogatory names, yet support a classic movie like 'Bamboozled' where the biggest wigger in the world Michael Rapport constantly called other Black people ******* and the placard was this:
MV5BMTI2ODIzMjUyMV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNzEyMzY3._V1._SX475_SY701_.jpg

By the way, don't get too cocky with your answer as I carefully worded my question.

I am included in the group you singled out.

I have not seen Bamboozled.

Why do you assume the group you singled out saw bamboozled?

Then went on to affirm your position based on this assumption?

:confused::confused::confused:

I'm not going to see it because I think QT was the White Tyler Perry but you made a great point.

Now that some of you have seen it, how close was that "script" that was floating around that got everyone all mad?
