Just saw Django [MERGED~> !SPOILER ALERT!]

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

when BGOL members say they're boycotting but downloading that is just being a cheap bastard.

I feel you but some may want to see it for research... personally... I am not going to watch it till I hear some conscious brothers and sisters recommend it... Didn't watch Red Tails or the Help either...

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

Bingo! And props to the other posters who are also perturbed by the hypocrisy of this place at times.

I'm not going to judge anyone who does not want to see the flick. That's cool, but the rationale being thrown around to suggest that any Black person who saw and enjoyed the movie is a *insert BGOL favorite word: COON* is laughable.

Let's just stop the preaching and condemnation and have a return to actual civil debate and discussions.

I can understand a criticism from someone who saw the movie and disagreed with the use of '******'. It didn't bother me or seem too excessive, but I agree that the use was felt; which is what I perceive as the director's intention. I believe that it was intended for the viewer to never get desensitized to the use of the word and to have a visceral reaction every time it was said. It was never once used as a term of endearment as we like to make that excuse today.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

100% agree

I been saying for years that we need to boycott 'black' actors who do movies like the help and those madea films... Sam Jackson is prime example... He is a talented actor but he has been not been giving a god damn about the people he protrays... which is fine for him he doesn't draw 'black' folks like say a Denzel or a Halle... he is mostly doing token or shoe shine roles for 'white' audiences

Samuel Jackson does mostly shoe-shine or token roles for white audiences???

Respectfully, what the hell qualifies his roles as such???

Yo.. I just peeped that and won't touch this upcoming thread derailment

Best of luck to you!

I think what hit me that he said MOST of Jackson's roles are like that.

But you right i shouldnt derail the thread.

Im still waiting for a response from the fake ass boycotters actually.

Are you asking if he played a shoe shiner in a movie.... or did you give any thought to the comment I made in the context of the thread (and reply)?

Now if you argue he has not been the token brother in his movies then I cannot reach you

Lol i knew you would cop out of this one.

You made the statement you made, you described MOST of his roles as such, and when asked for a simple explanation you cannot provide it.

I have seen just about every role he been in and i disagree with your assessment.

Your response was expected though buddy.

Sam L a token...stop it...so he was a token in Jackie Brown? Pulp Fiction?

A token in A Time to Kill? The negotiator?

Stop it

Wow, you just said some stupid fucking shit about Sam Jackson.:smh:

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

For those who made the decision to not watch it at the theatre because you dont want to put money in Tarantino's pockets...

Why not make your moral stand a meaningful one and flat out refuse to watch the movie at all?

Is this about money or is this about your convictions?

I mean, if ya'll feel a way about Tarantino and this movie, why not take your moral stance all the way?
Motherfuckas WANT to see this film, but they want to bootleg it because they want to bootleg it. This could've been an uplifting black film like Hidden Colors 2 and they will STILL BOOTLEG IT! That's the fuckery of BGOL and why I shit on these e-militant fucks like I do. All this play acting online is getting old to me. None of these dudes are hitting on shit when it comes to helping the community rise.

Point and case.
Links?..

Niggas keep saying they got the DVD, but I ain't seen a link yet.. I don't support that bitch nigga Tariq, but would love to hear what KRS and the other speakers have to say..

So ummm who would qualify for that? A person with an afro or dreadlocks? The last time I noticed a vast majority of BGOL were "conscious" brothers that you're referring to.

Consciousness and morality are not intertwined...being on a porn board has nothing to do w/ one being conscious of him/herself...don't sell yourself short

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

I've noticed that the most negative comments of the movie on this board are coming from people who haven't actually SEEN the movie. The ones who have, have enjoyed it. If you haven't seen it you are having preconceived notions on what the movie is. Fact is, more white folks die in the first scene of the movie than blacks in the entire movie. Fact is, while yes, it is a film that takes place in the south 2 years before the civil war, it's not a film that dwells in the cotton field. To be perfectly honest, Django Freeman is one of the hardest characters ever in motion pictures taking into account what he does and in the time period he is doing it in. I honestly think a lot of the flack that Tarantino takes come directly from Spike Lee. He has been in QT's shit since his perceived excessive use of the word "nigga" in Jackie Brown (funny cause they were friends before that) and QT has been seen by many militants as a racist since then. Personally, as much as I love Spike, I don't let him or any man determine what I go to the Cinema to see.

I AGREE! The level of stupidity on BGOL is at an all-time high. I'm fucking sick of it. These same e-militant fucks who do NOTHING for their community try to shit on what others do. Yeah, I paid to see Django Unchained. Read my Rocky Review on page 5 or 6 to see my opinion. Maybe you don't agree with my assessment, but I don't care. The point is that I support my community. I support projects like Hidden Colors happily. I bought copies of the film and gave to school teachers in predominately black areas for Black History month. I talk to the young cats on the streets about wasting their potential in their vital young years that they should be future planning. I've invited these young cats to watch Hidden Colors and other black documentaries. Some of these dudes woke up after seeing Hidden Colors alone. One went from smoking weed all day to a 9-5 job with trade-building options. These are all the things I had instilled in me from a young age by my grandmother who made me an active member in the NAACP. So ALL you WORTHLESS fucks who think seeing a fucking movie based on slavery in the wild west makes someone a sellout, coon, etc...GO FUCK YOURSELVES! What the hell have any of YOU done for your community other than talk that Good Shit on a fucking meaningless messageboard 24/7.:hmm:

95% of you motherfuckas won't even support Hidden Colors 1 or 2, much less watch it unless you get a bootleg copy...AKA STEALING FROM YOUR OWN BROTHER!:hmm:

I never use the n-word, especially in reference to my own people...but a lot of you motherfuckas are truly living up to the namesake lately. And yeah, there's a difference between being black and that word.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

No, I am not. The same e-militants that hate this movie based on exploitation purposes ("it's disrespectful of our ancestors") love all that over shit too which is nothing but black exploitation. Especially the porn; fuck THAT'S the initial reason we all come to this site. Please explain to me how black women taking ass to mouth and drinking cum is uplifting to anything besides my dick.:hmm:

Yep. I generalized because I don't have time to pull the timeline on every motherfucker on this board and my point is simple.

Its hypocrisy.

Porn is exploitation and black porn black exploitation. So for every e-militant up in arms about this movie keep in mind you do that on a board that's fucking mission statement is seeing black women naked getting slutted out. We all came here initially for that and this place STILL IS THAT.

That's my point; there's a lot glass house having cats on this site standing tall when convient.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

None of this has anything to do w/ consciousness...you've used up two whole posts to just rehash the same argument which I'm not really interested in...I took issue tho w/ someone saying you can't be conscious and on a porn board and this drawn out response doesn't address that...I think you might be confusing 'conscious' w/ 'conscience' :dunno:

Cosign you two brothers.

I have a question for those who have not and will not see 'Django' and agree with Spike Lee's assertion that the film is "disrespectful" to our ancestors yet he did not see it:

Without having seen 'Django', how can you reconcile your "outrage" over the film, which factors in pre Civil War Whites calling slaves derogatory names, yet support a classic movie like 'Bamboozled' where the biggest wigger in the world Michael Rapport constantly called other Black people ******* and the placard was this:
MV5BMTI2ODIzMjUyMV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNzEyMzY3._V1._SX475_SY701_.jpg

By the way, don't get too cocky with your answer as I carefully worded my question.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

My biggest issue with people who are criticizing the movie is, they're the same people who criticize movies about slavery that dance around the issue. They say that's patronizing. Can we really have it both ways?

Great question. Those who won't answer know its a double standard because Spike is black. plain and simple. They won't support a period piece if a non-black director did it. Its no use talking logic on here because people will always have their bias based on ignorance.

Re: Just saw Django [MERGED]

BGOL is a very schizophrenic forum. This a place where brothas will vilify a sista who dates CACs but then go ahead and make numerous pussy posts of white and non-Black women and justify brothas dating and marrying non-Black women.

A place where gun violence and the senseless killing of our children is abhorred but when gun violence happens in white community it's all "heh, I don't care" :dunno: Or a place that claims to be Pro-Black but posters talk disparagingly about black owned businesses and won't take a stand against clearly racist store owners in black communities?

This isn't even about the movie, which I thought was very entertaining, this is about the faux outrage and fake moral high ground that most of you dudes project.

How ironic is it that in this very thread a Brotha said he couldn't support the excessive use of ****** in a movie but in the very next post he quoted another poster and called him a nigga!! Or how about claiming that you won't support a CAC director but then proceed to request links for screeners as if that is really what a boycott is? If you really didn't want to support QT then don't watch his flick, period! The same dudes talking that big game are the same ones downloading and stealing their favorite artists music, comics, e-books, movies. :smh:

no disrespect, but that is an asinine question. bambozzled was satire. some of the issues touched on in that movie can be applied to django. rappaports character was intended to represent the attitudes of some whites in hollywood(tarantino?). for you to bring this up tells me you completely missed the entire point of this underrated movie.
