haha.. same shit happend to me...i watched season one on weekend and started to trip... i had to stop watching.. it played tricks on my mind.. kept feeling like i was in that joint on locked down. I put that shit down.. i got to thinking man that is way too much to put my mind into... but a good serious none the less.
That whole show was "racist" and prejudiced, that's why White folks loved it over the Wire. Some short White cop beating and burning niggas and spics. Every minority that could've brought him down they had to fuck up. First it was Julian being a faggot. Then Acevada suckin dick. Then Antoine Mitchell son being gay. Claudette being sick. Forrest Whittaker being crazy. They purposefully wrote them bad because they needed drama and the show to go on. Julian had that nigga dead to rights in the first couple episodes. Antoine Mitchell, there's no way that nigga loses to Vic and Shane. And Kavanaugh was the first nigga to out-Vic Vic and use his brain and had Vic fucked.
I enjoy the show, but I cna't think too much about it because it seems like some White boy's masturbatory fantasy against blacks and minorities.There was only one Black or minority in the WHOLE show that was upstanding and that was Claudette and she was dying.
There is no better tv series then The Wire.
But you really shouldnt compare the 2 shows. They arent about the same thing at all.
The Shield is based on adrenaline. The Wire is much more subtle, much more slow paced. The Shield has a beginning and an end, like a straight line. The Wire is circular. So on so forth...

That's really dumb. None of the "crooked" cops was black or a minority. All the "saintly" figures were black or Latino.

The MORAL CENTER of the series was "Claudette." The most "moral" cop was black. The uncorruptable investigator of the crooked cops was black. The cute and "clean" female cop was Latin, as was the abused captain of the precinct. The crack ho and the bad cops were all white, as were the RUSSIAN mobsters.

Of course, the whole look and feel of the show was created by a black man, Clark Johnson, and the most sympathetic characters were all black.
I still need to get around to THE WIRE, for fuck's sakes. Never having had HBO or HBO Canada ... the library only ever having season 2 of The Wire available, and being too lose to download it all online. I want to see THE WIRE in the next 1 - 2 years, for real. Fuck!
She wasn't the moral center. The moral center of the show was VIC. That's the way it was written. Claudette was a flaccid and ineffective nuisance. She never got Vic either. No one did. Vic got himself. Claudette mulled around for 6 seasons until she was made chief. She was complicit in much of Vic's actions. When she was chief, she let him slide along with everyone else. She claimed she wanted him out and even brought in Hyatt, but she let Vic take his nuts time and time again. If she wanted Vic out, she would've desked that nigga, but she liked his results. She fired Hyatt because he "wasn't Vic enough".
The "clean" Latina cop was Julian part 2. She fucked up several times, that's why they relegated her to PR shit like the billboard.
Most of the bad cops were White because there weren't too many Black cops. Claudette (clean), Kavanaugh (dirty, in jail), Assistant Cheif (a yes man), Julian (an effiminant faggot), Tavon (made him into a wimp, he couldn't even get proper revenge on the Vendrells), Carl Weathers was a corrupt cop. Smarten up Blunt. There was one positive minority on the whole show. ONE.
Most of the bad guys were Black and Spanish. The Armenians were not "Russian", they were ethnic and didn't look White (minus that foot dude).

Watching the series again after some years...Im just as wrapped up into it now as I was then. This was an amazing show. I'm on season 3.
Can't wait til Anthony Anderson comes in! I was amazed when I learned how much of a brilliant actor he is. I'd only known him for comedy roles, but when I saw him on the shield, i realize dude was a pure genius.
