Joe singing Hello by Adele ...now this is proof

Joe Thomas is one of the most under-rated artist ever. Wish his record label got behind him better.
One of my favs. He's made alot of dope as records. I was a fan from his first album "I'm in Love" produced by Tony Dofat.
Man foh. If Joe was the first to release that song it would come and go without much fanfare or attention.
Pretty fucking much.
You sir have the correct answer.

Black R&B singers use the word NiG%er in their songs more than rappers, instead of using suggestive lyrics they just
come straight out and say let's fuck, we just got through fucking, suck my dick etc. You can't sell that shit to a
mainstream audience. :smh:

One of the problems may be there is no black independent radio to help break R&B with substance, in the old days a black
or R&B song would go to the top of the soul/R&B stations first and then transition to the so called Pop/White stations.
All so called black radio wants to play these days is a bunch of no talented assholes calling each other NiG%er

I'm not talking Rap/Hip Hop, they can say what the fuck they want and it will sell, but that doesn't work in R&B/Soul.

^ I completely agree. This should def be done. Because as a songwriter who learned from listening to the Motown era, I write serious songs. But when I've submitted em for black artists, I've been told to dumb down the lyrics. I've had two A&R's tell me the same thing, but turn around and ask for the song as is for a white artist. This let me know it's all by design. This is why the biggest R&B/Soul singer in the game right now is Sam Smith. It's sickening. But when I ask if they want a white singer to reference (demo) it (like is required for any pop records), they say no, a black singer is fine. They want it like that to study the runs, riffs, and delivery. All the while giving our artists a cookie cutter barage of bullshit. :smh:
This shit was a concerted effort and now the ppl doing it are just following the blueprint without knowing why or how it was put in place.

Having said all that, Joe did his thing on this, but its not better than the original. This song doesn't fit Joe's voice the way it fits hers. Joe is a different kind of singer than Adele and this song fits her operatic singing style. His version is still dope.

It was good but cmon....Adele is on another level. Listen to her live without any auto tune. There isn't many that can hang with her.

I agree with you, Joe killed it BUT Adele's version is better. R&B artist really don't have an excuse, if wack ass Soulja Boy and other trash artist can break a record without radio then anyone can. A good song will make it to radio and every blog with the right hustle behind it.

Man foh. If Joe was the first to release that song it would come and go without much fanfare or attention.
Exactly.

The problem is whenever white people do what we do and do it in a way where it is, at least, mediocre or "good." The result is always this big praise and hoo-rah like they really did something special.

But when Black people do our own shit, there is not as much success and/or attention given to it.

I remember rumor eventually went round that the song "Gone" by 'N Sync was actually ghost written by Danny Boy (singer from Death Row days). Of course, on credits it doesn't say this, though. Regardless, to this day, I still believe that. He made a hell of a lot more money letting them sing it than doing it himself.

Joe still has it. Dude is super talented.

Also, I agree about the current state of R&B. This R&B thug shit is killing the art. R&B niggas wanna be rappers so bad. The songs are terrible. No emotion. Doesn't even seem like any new artists are even singing from the diaphragm. Just nasally, head singing. Where the fuck are the distinct voices. I can't tell the difference between Chris Brown, August Alsina, or Trey Songz. They sound the same, and sing the same shit. Mainly over-sexualized, hyper-masculinity fueled by materialism. There's nothing wrong with sex songs. But damn bro, at least be crafty with the lyrics. At least be creative. These niggas too thug to beg. Begging was a staple in music. The singers begged so we didn't have to simp on these chicks. They did all the work for us. My Pop always talks about how he used to just put on a Marvin or Teddy album, shut the fuck up, and let them do all the work, Not sure if that's still a thing youngins can do nowadays.

Oh yes. My mistake. A classic love ballad if ever there was one. Great job on the rebuttal fam.

Time stands still for no one.

Buy a Kem record. 4 real, he could be a bigger artist. But old folks dont buy records.

So you make records for young folk who do.

Its music "business".

Has nothing to do with any point I made. Has nothing to do with any point anyone has made in this thread, particularly with regards to the WRITING which people are discussing.

New Flame is ok but pales in comparison to R&B of the past. That's not an opinion it's a fact. This better represents the "R&B" you crack babies are listening to today.

:hmm: FOH

Sadly, he's actually proving the point of the A&Rs who will reserve good songs for artists like Sam Smith or Hozier, knowing fanboys are gonna buy anything these niggas put out while trying to convince themselves the shit is hot.

Also Teknique, with regards to your Kem comparison, you do realize his last album peaked at #3 for all US albums, and hit #1 on the US R&B/Hip charts right? (http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6243705/kem-promise-rb-hip-hop-albums)

R&B of the past is being bounced with B12. That probably sailed right over your head too. That A1 Peruvian Marvin Gay sniffed cant be found. "If" Marvin came back he couldnt get the medicine he craved. He would be mad too.

#2 R&B in the country week of Nov14

Over 300 million hits on youtube. And yeah that matters.

Its the game.

Go buy 5 more Kems then. He deserves the exposure.

I can attest to that. I program an urban adult station owned by a black family. We get more calls for Sam Smith, Adele, & Ed Sheran than we do Tyrese, Kem, or Leela James (with a 40% black audience)

People just believe "white" ice is colder than black ice

this is the problem. and then these artists labels and management don't break these records the way they used to. you can't go and just hear r and b. it's too much rap and lets use effects instead of voices. it's crazy but the younger generation of urban music fans won't go for this no matter what.

No, it didn't sail over my head lil boy. I just may be responsible for your brain not developing properly.

 This reply is bipolar as fuck.

There are some that say Aretha killed her on this one....:smh::smh:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-fmCoUjOMXU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you can't hear ALL THE EFFECTS her mic is putting on her voice or do you really think she's singing in a concert hall???.... you suck

Aretha put her in her own work in her live rendition though.

Or y'all need to break artists that are out there but not being heard. Where are u located?

I like both versions, much like Maxwell and Kate Bush (This woman's work). Kate and Adele's original version have a really sad POV and direction while Maxwell and Joe make their renditions very soul.

R n b ain't never been dead. Y'all letting white folks tell you what Black people are doing instead of connect ing with other Black folks.

What y'all know about BJ the Chicago Kid... this dude is the fucking truth

@1:40 ish you must not listen to much music

Bipolar? I think you fail to grasp nuance.

Rnb artist wanting to be rappers killed hip hop. Chris brown is a rapper who sings from time to time.
