These top 50 lists are always funny because no one even knows what the criteria is for top 50....
Like are we talking about artists and the music they are releasing? The hell does it matter if females wanted you fuck you? That make you top 50? People wanting to be like you?
See this where the weird shit comes into play.
You know why people wanted to be like Jeezy? Or Gucci? Because its easy. Nobody trying to be like Nas. Or Jay Z. Or Pusha.
And Jim Jones is probably older than Pusha. So Jimmy is out of touch and I can tell by how he talking. When he was relevant with Dipset that is the same era that Pusha T was in so he can't speak on this. Ask millennials about Pusha. That whole RE-up Gang era, Clipse, Got It For Cheap....Pusha and Pharrell the first ones I started seeing rocking those colorful Bape Hoodies then Wayne hopped on it.
Shit just get weird and silly. You got a top 50 list and Pusha ain't make it but you'd have somebody like Drake in it? A nigga who has been known to have a ghost writer? Or Kanye who don't even write his shit?
People revising history in the form of Pusha slander is crazy.....
I'm pretty sure they listed the criteria for the top 50 list Jim is speaking on. Based on their criteria, Pusha made the list. I'm in agreement with Pusha not really expending his content beyond drugs could have hurt his growth. Reducing Pusha because you don't believe he influenced culture beyond music is dumb to me.
The problem with rap is they want to include every aspect of your life and sometimes give more points for shit that has little to do with music. For example, actors don't get judged based on the amount of money they've made. They are generally judged on their performance or the films they've been in. Jay-Z being a mogul should not have anything to do with his ranking as far as rapping generally speaking.
Not making excuses or even saying I believe Drake has or doesn't have ghost writers, but honestly it doesn't seem uncommon for artists to get assistance in some form or another. It's just not usually spoken on. Drake has also been credited with writing for others, so did he also take credit for someone else's work because he's the bigger name? Again, not that unusual, but im not fully believing that. The main reason being is that at one point you'd hear Wayne, Drake and Nikki on a song and they'd all sound very similar. There was also the rumor that Gillie was writing for Wayne in the past before Drake came into the picture, so Wayne is questionable, people rarely mention it and he says he's the best too. Could someone been writing for all three? It's possible, but it's more likely Drake was assisting or fully writing on certain songs.
Personally, I overall don't care about someone writing 100%. The verse is only a part of the product and you can have someone who is a better writer like Consequence take a back seat to someone like Kanye. If people care about rappers being pure writers outside of maybe a hook, why didn't Consequences ever pop. However, Kanye who used material created by Consequence did? I believe Snoop has had writers as well. Now I don't know if he's ever claimed to be the best of anything and I've never heard anyone say Snoop was lyrical, but how many people would question it openly if he did?I think I saw 50 say he wrote something for LL. If true, does that reduce LL's career? People will say Kanye is different, but he is not exactly like a Dre or Puff who never claimed to write or be the best, so why aren't people calling Kanye out more especially since we know he has writers. Why is Drake being held to a different standard than other artists?it's nothing new for artists to get questioned for it and rap purest don't respect it, but this seems to be over the top.
