Well, I just turned it into it's own thread, so nobody can claim it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

It still won't be answered. It could be a sticky on every board for all of 2010, and all of the responses would be deflections and "My lord would never ask me to do something immoral" type nonsense. Of course, the law changes... and Jesus/Yahweh can make anything moral/immoral at anytime by fiat.
That's the real issue. Does your God through his omniscience have perfect knowledge of absolute morality, or is he through his omnipotence simply able to define anything he wants to be moral and enforce it against weaker beings? That is, is he observing moral law or creating it? Is a thing good because it is good intrinsically, or is good because your God says that it is good?
This is important. I've never understood why we would assume a God would be "good" anyway, just because he said so... wouldn't he himself have to demonstrate his goodness? Or is it enough to be God-fearing, and submit to him like you would to the demands secret police simply because there is no other option for survival? What does good/evil even mean for an omnipotent & omniscient being but obedience/disobedience to his expressed will? I echo Hitchens on this point, imagining biblical Heaven as something like a celestial North Korea.

There was a lot of the "My lord would never ask me to do something immoral" argument-- People claiming the Lord would never tell anyone to do anything against the Commandments. I brought up Abraham and Issac and one person defended that as being pre-Commandments. I brought up the Lord's alleged encouragement of genocide in the King David era (just to pick one) and that person never responded.
You're right that respect for God is all about deference to a greater power... It is obvious that the God character in the Old Testament, which is God to most people, was an extremely immoral and indefensible character.
Interestingly, people were a lot more disturbed by the idea that God would command one to commit a homosexual act than the fact, according to their Bible, that God would command one to murder their infant son.
