The Rooney rule exists bruh. Y'all put too much faith in cacs to do the right thing
Yeah, the "Rooney Rule" in theory is a good idea, and although I hate the Pittsburgh Steelers, I applaud Dan Rooney for coming up with the idea.
I am also thankful to the Steelers organization for hiring Bill Nunn, who became the first black scout in 1967, and in 1970 became Assistant personnel director, who recruited a lot of talent from HBCUs (John Stallworth, Erie Holmes, Dwight White, Mean Joe Green, Mel Blount, etc.)
Faith, nah, personally I remain pessimistic because I know it's and "Ole Boy's Network," that will only welcome change if it affects their "Bottom line."
In 1970, USC played Alabama in football, and Alabama had an all-white team coached by Paul "Bear" Bryant. USC won 42-21, and USC had several black players. Did "Bear" Bryant want to recruit black players...Yes, but there was Governor George Wallace (I'm sure you've heard of him). The next season in 1971, Alabama started to recruit black players.
Oh, going back to the "Rooney Rule." Team owners already have an idea of who they want to hire so we basically go through the motions (however, some outside pressure doesn't hurt. I think Lovey Smith is a good coach, but I can't say that Brian Flores's lawsuit against the NFL, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texas and New York Giants didn’t help him get the job with the Texans).
