I got to give it to Jay though, that nigga even tried to say this shit with Nas sitting right next to him at 4:13..but Nas brought him back to Reality at 4:15

Takeover was a response to this ... Nas bombed on the whole Roc with this one:
"Hit the FREEWAY, shoot through MEMPHIS with MONEY BAGS (Bleek's artist) stop in Philly order a cheese steak and eat BEANS fast .... is he H to the izz O? M to the izz O? forshizzle my nizzle the rapper version of Cisco"

Mind Right - Memphis Bleek and DJ Clue (Nas diss)

Has Nas ever gotten on a track with Eminem?
alot of people forget about this...i listened to hot 97 that day at work and the people spoke...they said Nas won...most people can't attack Jay the way Nas did...Those things that Nas said were personal and alot of cats in the street were like "Yea, there is some truth to some of those things" Jay may have won the war (career) but he lost that battle
never becuz the fact that Eminem would shit all over the track including Nas.
"you just don't understand all the bullshit that he writes(fuck is you sayin)"
Blueprint 2 was epic

The moment stillmatic dropped Def Scam was on the phone to Hot 97 begging them niggas not to play it :itswrap:
) and fakemaster flex(mr. "Pay oh la" dude was getting paid to play/promote mostly rocafella songs
was shook like the little bitch he was), he had them clowns at hot97 in fear for their lives, shit was that fucking serious(uncle russell had to step in). NAS did not only go at jay z, he attacked the machine that promoted the roc, while denying other artist a fair shakei dont ever hear anybody talking about, "ooooh, that nigga got takeovered".

But a lot of people say:
"Smarter Up Nas"
when someone does something dumb

I liked both tracks but I always thought Takeover stung a little more for a few reasons
- I always thought while Nas had some memorable lines in Ether, a lot of the stuff he said sounded kinda elementary; like little kids name calling; I always thought Jay's lyrics were much more calculated and witty; like a boxer vs. a brawler; Nas almost sounded like he just went in the booth and freestyled a lot of Ether

it's smarten up nas...

another internet phrase. Ether has been used in regular conversations offline.Exactly. If you take a moment to actually sit and rewrite both of those rappers verses, you realize Nas was sweating to write Ether. Jay's nastiest verse was the last--down to the very last rhyme.
Jay was logical and focused. Nas sounded emotional and poetical. The name calling and off-centered shit was filler. Nas definitely locked the hook! Stopped Jay from saying he can't lose![]()

. But I think he believes Nas is weak again, nothing like a good part 2 to have jay recording with some urgency again.
@ niggas up in here testifying for HOV.
NAS smacked that nigga.

Aint no rules in a diss song...
I can't believe the level of stanning in this thread. Jay hit hard 1) Nas don't sell(somehow leading to wack lyrics) 2) he lied about a gun. Nas responded & basically played a game of snaps on that nigga. Niggas act like they never got joked on growing up. Nas attacked his crew, his looks, his bitch, his lyrical content, & started the shit off with one of Pac's classic linesAint no rules in a diss song...
yea, the level of stanning just went nuclearco sign, I can still remember NAS going at angie martinez(bitch was in tears) and fakemaster flex(mr. "Pay oh la" dude was getting paid to play/promote mostly rocafella songs
was shook like the little bitch he was), he had them clowns at hot97 in fear for their lives, shit was that fucking serious(uncle russell had to step in). NAS did not only go at jay z, he attacked the machine that promoted the roc, while denying other artist a fair shake
This is the only thing you really countered so i will respond to it. Yes, its a bad thing when a dude with no label support or industry crew comes at your head and takes your entire roster down along with destroying the HNIC in the process. Rocafella was arguably the hottest rap label out at the time and Nas went at they head alone.
6.That's a bad thing that The Roc had actual rappers and the Bravehearts didn't?
Jay's a smart dude. Either he's about to market his 24/7 Tae Bo Fitness Centers across the country or he's anticipating the stress and depression that Ether day brings.
Nas gave Jay a gift, his own holiday. If Jay can't handle it he better call Russ for some relaxation techniques.

I don't understand why some keep saying that Takeover is based on fact. Honestly, Ether was much more truthful then Jay's track. If you go back and listen to the song you will catch a few lies. Do you really think Jay showed Nas his first Tec-9? Illmatic debuted in 1994 and the Takerover was in 2001. Isn't that 7 years? If you're going to count his cameo in Live at the BBQ in 91 then you also have to count when Jay was riding Jaz's coattails. Jaz put Jay on The Originators in 1990 which means Jay-Z has been out longer than Nas. 11 years sure seems a lot longer than the 5 he mentioned in the song.
Here's the video:
The World Is Yours had just one hot line?? (fact?) And where is the proof that Nas didn't get paid for the sample? Just because Serch was a middle man doesn't mean Nas didn't get his cut. And according to the this LINK (see item #3), Serch said Nas got paid any time he was sampled.

Try '89.
"With Hawaiian Sophie fame, keep my name in his music"
I gotta roll with Takeover.
One of the hardest diss records of all, highly underated is Quik
