Jay-Z Tells Juan Epstein His Takeover Diss Was 100 Times Better Than Ether.

Jay's a smart dude. Either he's about to market his 24/7 Tae Bo Fitness Centers across the country or he's anticipating the stress and depression that Ether day brings.

Nas gave Jay a gift, his own holiday. If Jay can't handle it he better call Russ for some relaxation techniques.

Takeover was a response to this ... Nas bombed on the whole Roc with this one:

"Hit the FREEWAY, shoot through MEMPHIS with MONEY BAGS (Bleek's artist) stop in Philly order a cheese steak and eat BEANS fast .... is he H to the izz O? M to the izz O? forshizzle my nizzle the rapper version of Cisco"
:itsawrap:

I liked Ether better, the beat was crazy and like someone already said, Take Over wasn't even a whole song about Nas... I guess if we look at Take Over as a Diss track, not just a Nas diss track, then maybe he has an argument

:lol::lol:
Mind Right - Memphis Bleek and DJ Clue (Nas diss)

Notice how Jigga calls on his troops to fight his lost battles.

Just like he did with Jaz only for Jaz to smack all of them.

BTW, Nas went on to murder him on Success and Black Republicans as well but who's counting.

alot of people forget about this...i listened to hot 97 that day at work and the people spoke...they said Nas won...most people can't attack Jay the way Nas did...Those things that Nas said were personal and alot of cats in the street were like "Yea, there is some truth to some of those things" Jay may have won the war (career) but he lost that battle

nas had so much to lose and he came through and the beat was hardcore and fit nas style of rap. Prodigy is a solid consistent rapper but his voice style makes it even better..a lyrical genius? no Jay is wrong with the NAS thing. i think he is hurt by the fact that the fans picked NAS song.

"you just don't understand all the bullshit that he writes(fuck is you sayin)"

Blueprint 2 was epic

Ya blueprint 2 comeback was much better.

"Can't y'all, see that he's fake, the rap version of TD jakes
Prophesizing on your CDs and tapes
Won't break you a crumb of the little bit that he makes
And this is with whom you want to place your faith?"

"Cause the nigga wear a coofie, it don't mean that he bright
Cause you don't understand him, it don't mean that he nice
It just means you don't understand all the bullshit that he write
Is it "Oochie Wally Wally" or is it "One Mic"?
Is it "Black Girl Lost" or shorty owe you for ice?"

never becuz the fact that Eminem would shit all over the track including Nas.

I kinda found it funny that Nas had Em do a beat for him but didn't have him rhyme on the track. I thought it would've been the perfect time to show Jay how it's done.

I guess Jay-Z failed to tell everyone that he copped this track from royce and em...the reason the shit dont mesh is cause it was a bad/evil song

:smh::smh::smh::smh:

original
:yes::yes::yes::yes:

I will put it this way.... Take Over is still on my iPod...Its on my work out Mix..... Ether is no where to be found in my collection...

The moment stillmatic dropped Def Scam was on the phone to Hot 97 begging them niggas not to play it :itswrap:

co sign, I can still remember NAS going at angie martinez(bitch was in tears ) and fakemaster flex(mr. "Pay oh la" dude was getting paid to play/promote mostly rocafella songs :smh: was shook like the little bitch he was), he had them clowns at hot97 in fear for their lives, shit was that fucking serious(uncle russell had to step in). NAS did not only go at jay z, he attacked the machine that promoted the roc, while denying other artist a fair shake

He's right.

Takeover was a harder track than Ether. Ether had a good flow, and was a good song, but when you consider the shots and the weight behind each shot was heavier for Takeover than Ether.

The Hot 97 survey that called the beef was between Ether and Superugly. In that case yeah, Nas won.

But takeover vs. ether? Nah, Jay-Z won that matchup.

As for Renegade? I prefer Jay-z verse, though Em's was better lyrically.

I liked both tracks but I always thought Takeover stung a little more for a few reasons

- I always thought while Nas had some memorable lines in Ether, a lot of the stuff he said sounded kinda elementary; like little kids name calling; I always thought Jay's lyrics were much more calculated and witty; like a boxer vs. a brawler; Nas almost sounded like he just went in the booth and freestyled a lot of Ether

Exactly. If you take a moment to actually sit and rewrite both of those rappers verses, you realize Nas was sweating to write Ether. Jay's nastiest verse was the last--down to the very last rhyme.

Jay was logical and focused. Nas sounded emotional and poetical. The name calling and off-centered shit was filler. Nas definitely locked the hook! Stopped Jay from saying he can't lose

Ether humbled Jigga. Jay went from :dance::dance:  . But I think he believes Nas is weak again, nothing like a good part 2 to have jay recording with some urgency again.

some of you niggas still don't get it, jay z is a fucking rapper! He's no GOD
He takes things too personal like Nas stated(that ego is a mother, he needs to let this go)

Why some of you cats sit here and compare "the takeover" beat to "ether" beat does NOT make takeover a better song, period!

Nas used "ether" (the strong burning chemical) as a metaphor for jay z(the man, who he really is/how he came to be). :cool:He DEFINED him  "the big lip insecure, ugly kid who made it to rap super stardom and uses his status to attack women in general(like the ones who dissed/rejected him growing up"

Before jay z, there was pac, nas, snoop(too a lesser extend) and the real king of NY---->biggie(he had to die for jay to really shine/jay copied enough of that man's rhymes----->FACT!

Some of the shit Nas said in ETHER( "kiddie lyrics" to you jay z stans, came from jaz, according to bleek) which is why jay really took shit personal with his former mentor, but you cats don't get it tho, and you never will. Even jay(with all of his wealth and beyonce) can't get over it......

Ether the metaphor, plus all truths = :itsawrap:

:smh: @ niggas up in here testifying for HOV.

NAS smacked that nigga.

I can't believe the level of stanning in this thread. Jay hit hard 1) Nas don't sell(somehow leading to wack lyrics) 2) he lied about a gun. Nas responded & basically played a game of snaps on that nigga. Niggas act like they never got joked on growing up. Nas attacked his crew, his looks, his bitch, his lyrical content, & started the shit off with one of Pac's classic lines  Aint no rules in a diss song...

6. That's a bad thing that The Roc had actual rappers and the Bravehearts didn't?
This is the only thing you really countered so i will respond to it. Yes, its a bad thing when a dude with no label support or industry crew comes at your head and takes your entire roster down along with destroying the HNIC in the process. Rocafella was arguably the hottest rap label out at the time and Nas went at they head alone.

I don't understand why some keep saying that Takeover is based on fact. Honestly, Ether was much more truthful then Jay's track. If you go back and listen to the song you will catch a few lies. Do you really think Jay showed Nas his first Tec-9? Illmatic debuted in 1994 and the Takerover was in 2001. Isn't that 7 years? If you're going to count his cameo in Live at the BBQ in 91 then you also have to count when Jay was riding Jaz's coattails. Jaz put Jay on The Originators in 1990 which means Jay-Z has been out longer than Nas. 11 years sure seems a lot longer than the 5 he mentioned in the song.

Here's the video:

The World Is Yours had just one hot line?? (fact?) And where is the proof that Nas didn't get paid for the sample? Just because Serch was a middle man doesn't mean Nas didn't get his cut. And according to the this LINK (see item #3), Serch said Nas got paid any time he was sampled.

But a lot of people say:

"Smarter Up Nas"

when someone does something dumb

:smh::smh::smh: another internet phrase. Ether has been used in regular conversations offline.

that shit aint even an internet phrase:lol::smh:

Try '89.

"With Hawaiian Sophie fame, keep my name in his music"

Jay-Z hands down is possibly one of the best that ever done it and like he said you cant win em all. But YES! my man Nas ethered his ass on that entire album. Particularly Ether and He was tellin the truth about M Murdering him on his own shit. But Jay is still one of thee best IMO. After Tupac and Face of course. I'm not sure exactly where he fits in but Tupac and Face is in the Top 3 greatest rappers of all time to me...
