Granted, I'm still a young cat ,80s baby, the NBA is boring now. I cant watch an entire game without feeling the need to take a nap. I find myself watching retro games on ESPN all the time and thinking, what the fuck happened?? Is the game meaningless to most of these cats? Too much money??? I remember Mitch Richmond and the Kings being more entertaining than most of the games that come on the tube now and they stunk. The only kats worth my money now is K. Bryant, D. Wade, J. Johnson, and T. McGrady...PERIOD

Real Ballers...

When you compare it to the excitement of the NFL it is pretty boring. But I'm a b-ball fanatic so I'm loving it anyway.

well my raptors are finally playing good basketball an winning iv been waitting 4 years for this so im loving it right now i dont miss a game

After The All-Star Game You Will Start To See More Drama... I Like D.Wade And The Heat To Start Taking Over In The East And Re-Matching The Mavericks In The West....... A Lot Of Passion For The Game Has Been Lost...... Watch D.Wade If You Like To See Offense/Defense Getting Your Teammates Involed, Not Shooting 30-40 Meaningless Shots A Game And Taking Over In The 4th Quater.

you are not alone fam! i find the N.B.A boring as well. the only time i really watch it is during the playoffs. honestly i do think that the hunger for the most part is not really there anymore across the board. you do have some cats that play with passion like dwade, iverson, lebron, arenas etc. i really miss the magic, jordan, bird etc days. like you i just watch old classics! thank God for college basketball!

The NBA been boring ever since Jordan Left and The Lakers started Winning. There's too many teams in the leauge so teams ain't filled with the same talent as 10-15 years ago. These High School kids getting in the leauge early and too many college guys leaveing school early have made the leauge look bad. No One Plays Defense Anymore. The East has never been this bad. The Leauge has never been so loop sided before.

10-15 years ago you coluldn't have gaurds take it to the hole as they do now. Back then the playoffs were much more exciting.

Remember Nick Van Excel creating nick at night in the playoffs

Remember The Nuggets becoming the First 8th Seat team to beat the Top Seat in the playoffs

Remember The Knicks play the Bulls, Pacers, and Heat. These were games series better than todays Finals.

It was better back when everyone was gunning for Jordan and the Bulls

Then You had the magical shots by my boy Reggie

You make some good points and I think you hit it on the nose, its just too many damn teams.. I can think of Memphis, Charlotte, New Orleans, Golden State off the top right now of teams that need to be dismantled.

Its a damn shame when the Celtics lose 15 str8!

I cant wait for the playoffs. Miami may get some problems depending on who they play when. I look for Detroit and Chicago to be a problem with them adding C Webb(Piston), and Ben Wallace(Bulls) to their teams. I hope LeBron can rebound from his skid lately and start killin shit again. I'd like to see Cleveland and Washington go at it again. Arenas has now sparked off on LeBron and I hope that lights a fire. The west is the west. I see Dallas coming out strong with some problems from Phoenix or San Antonio. West finals should go some length. I see 5 or 6 games. Rematch for the Finals? possible if the heat stay healthy.

yeah it's the same shit....the same teams make the playoffs... the same teams always suck....In the NFL something changes with some team....it's a lot better to watch.

A big problem witht he NBA is the lack of physical contact that is allowed. There are too many teams. The talent pool is diluted, but a lot of these guys can ball. Stern has done a lot to make the league more palatable to whites which in turn has taken a lot of passion out of the players. They are almost like robots becuase they don't know what to do. Do you think Steve Nash would be doing half the shit he does if he was being checked by Mr handcheck Derrick Harper which is why they changed the handcheck rules. as I think of it, there have been many rule changes because of the NY Knicks of the 90's when the NBA was at its best as far as competitiveness. it is amkeing a comback, but there jsut isn't that intensity, but the league is healthy which is all Stern cares about.

Its not a lack of talent, its more a lack of drama like Diecide said. You need more than just games. You need rivalries, you need a game to mean something, you need more people to hate, more to love. The game just lacks that. The league does water down the game, and its almost like how they do in the NFL.
But the game needs more to talk about besides just the game.

This is the biggest issue to me. I appreciate good defense. The league has put so many restrictions on contact that defenders cant buckled down on an offensive player. Players get whistled for blowing air on an offensive player.

In the past, you had TEAMS that stuck together. They may have shifted the bench.. but the Lakers, Pistons, Celtics, Blazers etc of the 80s rolled with the same starting 5 for almost a decade... had huge rivalries... and that shit is just non-existent now.

Too many teams? Nope, not the reason.
Lack of contact? Nope, in fact too much contact makes for WORSE basketball.

Overall NBA talent is higher now than it was back then, when coupled with the fact that players are much bigger now than then. Back in the day it was nothing to have a 6'3 shooting guard, and now you have to be exceptionally talented to play that position at that height.

There's less effort because these guys are too good.

But the biggest reason, is the SALARY CAP, which makes it harder to put together stacked teams.

Also, the major market teams aren't contenders to win their division year in, year out. If the Lakers, Celtics, Knicks and Bulls were threats to go deep every year, the NBA would seem more exciting.

two words for why the NBA sucks

David Stern

he has totally redesigned the game we all grew up watching for this soft bullshit and no one is interested

Teams arent tight cuz most are padded with softies. You arent punished going to the hole like back in the day when only a man dared come in the paint with fancy shit. These dudes aint Earl The Pearl or Moses or DR J. These dudes are watered down pretty boy faggots. They are 2 steps from being Cranrab's favorite Eurobitches.

Adversity made the Pistons, Lakers, Celtics and Bulls good teams. Not to mention real coaches in real organizations. That was when even superstars didnt cry like faggots over bullshit.

David Stern kidnapped the NBA.

If you ask me the NBA needs to take some notes from the NFL as far as gauranteed money. I know this will never happen b/c the players would be crazy to agree on it, but in the NFL the only thing gauranteed is the signing bonus.

According to this http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm cats like Alan Houston(whom is retired) are still banking in big time b/c they had like 6 yr deals. In the NFL you sign a 3 year deal if you are a fuckup year 1 your ass can be gone in yr 2. I feel NBA players "coast" after they sign their 2nd deal(usually the deal where they make the bulk of their money in their basketball career) b/c they know they are set and don't have to worry about getting cut.

money didnt change the game - rule changes did

Less money in player hands didnt change the NFL - PARITY did.

Why isnt there parity in the NBA? The west dominates right? Why is that?

For one, you know the NBA is NOT a contact sport, and two, the over physical style was RUINING the game. The goal of the game is to put the ball in the hoop, not to knock people out trying to do it. The style of ball the Knicks of the 90s played is not a good way to play the game league wide.

However I will meet you halfway by saying that I cannot stand FLOPPING, and think they should only call charging in more extreme cases.

Ultimately it comes down to star power, and the teams that are on top of the league.
After Jordan left it signaled the end of an era. Most of those guys from the 80s were either out of the league, or on their way out, and there was a period where the league basically had to re-up their star power.

Now with the guys from the mid 90s draft in their prime and those who came in in 02/03 the NBA should have a new era coming. Then considering the next few drafts and how much talent is expected to come into the nba, it's gonna be pretty good.

Now all the NBA needs are for the major markets to see success, I mean think about this, the Knicks have sucked for many years, yet Knicks jerseys still sell like hot cakes, and Allan Houston's jersey was a top 10 seller among guys like Shaq, AI, Kobe, Garnett etc.

Now imagine if New York was a contender. Recall how the Lakers were the talk of the playoffs when it began, and the excitement over Kobe last season.

STRONGLY DISAGREE.

not enough people know, understand, and appreciate the game as it is already. if they understood what they were watching, they could find plenty of things to excite them.

Nobody said:

since when? your claim may hold true for spectators, but it has NEVER been true for the athletes that have played it.

It all goes back to gauranteed contracts....in the NBA if a player gets a huge deal and doesn't live up to it, the team is often stuck with that guy b/c he is tough to trade b/c no one wants to have the huge contract.

In the NFL there is way more player movement b/c teams don't have to worry about much of these same cap rules as in the NBA.

Plus in the NFL coaching is more important as in the NBA. In football you can offset being less talented by having better schemes than the other teams and creativity in play calling. It is much more of a chess game than the NBA which pretty much boils down to 1 on 1 play most of the time.

Shit, I went to a game last night and had a blast. Fuck what ya heard.

I was going to say that the real problem with the NBA is
the coverage and how the announcers try to take over
the game. You listen to them and it's like they are in another
world and totally out of touch with what is happening on
the court. Most are a minute late and a dollar short on
every event. As if they're not even watching the games

They need to get rid of EVERY announcer and just broadcast
what is happening. If we have to hear people speak, let's
just hear the player's and coaches....

Call it Reality NBA....
(I want my money when they start doing this shit)

btw, I hate "Reality TV" shows. With a passion

The game is just different now. The emphasis is on scoring, you cant play defense on super stars, and no one in the league plays real man defense. Playing passing lanes isn't real man D. Superstars don't even play each other until maybe the last quarter. Tim Duncan isn't guarding Kevin Garnett all gay why.....................because of foul trouble. Dwayne Wade the last year averaged more trips to the line than anyone else. NBA is wack !!!

to me the nba got boring after the finals between la and the sixers...last years finals was cool though...glad gp and zo got their rings..

Everyone has some valid arguments.

Even though I grew up in the 80's, I still feel that from 89 until the mid to late 90's was the best the NBA had been. There was everything. heated rivalries, scoring, defense and palyers you could love and or hate.

I don't feel there was ever such great comraderie, but teams were together longer. Everything is pussyfied now. Coaches liek one another. Players appear to like each other too much that they have these chummy chummy meetings at the court right after the game.

There seems to be a lack of overall passion for winning in the league. That is why I am glad Wade called out Lebron and dissd Dirk. Someone has to say something. Maybe that is a little Riley in him. Now, I am not saying these guys an't be friends, but win you lose at least feel bad about it. Look the part or something.

The 80's had no defense like there is now, and I was just never a big fan of the 80's.

Honestly, I can say the today's NBA and NFL is indicative of America. Everyone is throwing allt hat bullshit about family values and blah blah blah. It is like lip service. One thing I can say for those crazy ass Euros and is they give a fuck about soccer. There is a lot of passion with them. There is also a lot of racism, but it just seems like the sport means something to the fans and the players.

I NEVER watch that shit... including baseball, football, soccer, hockey, golf, tennis, skiing, and volleyball. I do however watch boxing and MMA when I can.
