Just last week, we reported that Apple had made its way into the third spot for computer makers in the US (with an impressive 10.6 percent market share), and surely this has helped to boost Apple's stock price as of late. But how would those numbers change if the iPad were to be included as a PC?

According to Fortune, that's the question that Deutsche Bank's Chris Whitmore has answered. He notes that including the iPad in PC sales would easily push Apple to the number one spot with a staggering 25 percent of the market.

If we keep in mind the fact that the iPad is the fastest selling gadget of all time, the results make sense. Whitmore's argument is that if the iPad is stealing market share from netbooks, then it is logical to include it in Apple's PC sales numbers.

I agree with Whitmore's take, and I think that the iPad is truly astounding. I have no problem thinking of the iPad as a personal computer because in my own experience, the use of my MacBook has sharply declined since acquiring an iPad.

What are your thoughts, though? Do you think the iPad is just a glorified iPod touch and should not be included here? Or do you think that Apple, like HP (we assume), should be allowed to include the sale of tablets in its PC sales numbers?

The other side of the argument is that the iPad's lack of freedom to install basic apps and plug-ins, such as FireFox or even Flash which you can do on a Netbook, makes this far too limited a system to be considered a full-fledged computer, not to mention for the apparent lack of multitasking.

But if Apple classify's the IPAD as a PC, then companies such as DEll, HP, Sony, etc... would then stand to hurt the most.

I dont think that's a really good argument since the iPad is denting netbook sales and Apple just announced they sold 4.2 million this quarter.

You don't have the right skills. Quit pushing all those CHEAP ass PC gadgets and I may be able to pull some strings.

See..... your reply shows the arrogant nature of most Apple FanBoy's, I list bargains for folks who are looking for bargains nothing more, Never see me try to put down people who spend $2000 just for a shiny emblem or status ..... Look at me I have a Mac....

BTW: I know you really work for MicroSOFT, that's why I always ask u to get me a job at Apple ....

I have yet to hear a compelling reason as to why iPad is NOT a computer. Inability to run Flash is not a good reason because that is a software compatibility issue which actually proves that the iPad IS a computer due to the face that iPad is its own platform independent of others. In addition, if iPad wasn't a computer why would you even want flash on it in the first place? I don't hear people advocating for flash on coffee cups and hair brushes....why? Because they are not computers.

It is a computer...

I believe it is a good argument.

When you compare, there’s no comparison

The Facts, nothing but the facts...

It's not a good argument. Most people look to do basic things on their computer. Surf the web, check email, social network... and a few other small tasks. The iPad does that and more with a great touchscreen interface and the #1 app store on the planet.

I believe it is a good argument.

Can you respond to the iPad vs Netbook chart? Sorry but I'll never buy a iPad for various reasons.

Dude.. anyone with any knowledge knows the chart is not accurate. Do some research.

So obviously your not anyone with knowledge so that doesn't apply here... I showed facts. You respond like the typical Fanboy you are defending your shiny paper weight and internet browser/book reader.

I could send the chart to you in a rar. file to you to download, open with winrar and read, but wait.....................you can't download it can you? I thought that was a function computers can do?

wait nigga, your the apple guy of the board. this is your time too shine. and the only reason u have that the chart isnt accurate is knowledge. thats it.

why dont u go in deph about it :hmm:

Yes it is inaccurate so I can;t really take it seriously.

Post a chart that shows the features consumers care about and maybe the similarities are closer than you think.

I'm not saying which is better for YOU. For me, a netbook is a lame choice. When I need to work, I use my computer or laptop. When I travel on vacation I take my iPad. it's more portable. I surf the web... maybe look something up on maps, send/receive email, play music, at night at the hotel I hop on facebook for a few, on the plane I watch a movie. I don;t need a USB port when I travel.. I'm not taking shit with me that I have to plug in to my portable device.

It may be a little inaccurate but the netbook still does more. Are you saying the iPad is better because it has a shiny screen?

I'm a consumer and I care about damn near all those. That's why I don't have a iPad. You mean what Apple consumers are looking for. I'll tell you what they are looking for. They want shiny, sleek, and expensive shit.:lol:

According to that chart the iPad doesn't have Netflix and the Netbook runs OSX.

Here is a screen shot of my iPad running Netflix.. can someone post a screen shot of the netbook running OSX?
