I'm a Droid guy but trying to help a HS friend. Her uncle passed and the family is trying to get to his contacts.

He had a pre paid iPhone 7 and it's locked.

Any input on what they can do??

You are going to have to contact apple, you will need proof of death and maybe power of attorney but no promises.

Best you can do is find a data recovery company to get whatever they can from the phone’s drive. Apple will not unlock the phone

if it's truly just contacts they're trying to retrieve, try logging into his gmail account on his computer. Contacts are usually stored there.

Yup. My lady just lost her backup phone (iPhone 7) and it took fooooorever to Apple to do anything without her Apple ID and password. She failed the security question (LMAO) and her shit was LOCKED for almost a week.

Also if they backed up on iTunes on their computer you can recover text messages, call history and probably contacts
