In case you missed it

I'm looking forward to that Lesnar/Mir fight. I just don't know how anyone is going to beat dude. He just seems like he could just pure overpower you no matter what kind of submission you have him in. I think Mir's best chance is to test his chin, because like you say H-Funk you can't train that shit.

True ... should be a good one (I hope they give the crowd and PPV audience their money's worth collectively). Better not be some 1:00 fight or some bullshit, lol.

Speaking of Lesnar ... still to this day I wonder how he walked away from that serious fall he had at Wrestlemania years ago against Kurt Angle. He should be quad' or para'. Surprised he walked away from that. Landed on his head off the top rope.

Disrespected “Bad Boy” Lashes Out at UFC, Confirms May Bout with Machida

By Loretta Hunt (loretta@thefightnetwork.com)

Another UFC champion is speaking out against the promotion he once called home.

In an interview on Sirius’ Fight Network Radio on Monday, a disgruntled Tito Ortiz cited money as a primary point of contention with Zuffa LLC, the Las Vegas-based company that purchased the mixed martial arts’ brand in early 2001 and turned it into a $200 million-plus industry over the next five years.

“They don’t want the fighters to get as big as a 'Tyson' or a 'De La Hoya' or one of those types because all of a sudden, they’ll be expecting to see a lot more payment,” said Ortiz. “The UFC makes about 99 percent of the money, and the rest goes to the fighters. That one percent ain't nothing compared to what they make on merchandising, on pay-per-view, and everything else they make around the world.”

Ortiz is not the only marquee fighter to take Zuffa to task. UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture resigned from the organization on Oct. 11, citing compensation and poor treatment within the company as his main motivations. Couture walked away from his title, two contracted fights and a separate employment contract for commentating and promotional duties. Zuffa filed suit with Couture last Monday for breach of his employment contract.

A polarizing former UFC light heavyweight champion, Ortiz confirmed he will face Lyoto Machida (12-0) at a UFC event on Saturday, May 24 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will satisfy the final fight of his UFC contract.

Expecting a rematch with “The Ultimate Fighter 2” winner Rashad Evans, Ortiz (15-5-1) said he begrudgingly accepted the bout with the Japanese-Brazilian fighter who toppled PRIDE sensation Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou with a second-round submission at UFC 79 “Nemesis” on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.

“I was expecting a bigger fight. I think the fans were expecting a bigger fight,” said Ortiz. “I got pressed into it, and all of a sudden, it’s all over the Internet that Tito Ortiz won’t fight Machida. I’m just looking to get my final fight over with the UFC.”

Ortiz has headlined 17 of his 20 UFC appearances since he stepped into the Octagon at UFC 13 “Ultimate Force” in May 1997. Energetic and captivating, Ortiz became the UFC’s light heavyweight champion after his victory against future PRIDE Fighting Championships star Wanderlei Silva at UFC 25 in April 2004. A poster boy for the promotion, he lost the title to Randy Couture (16-8) by unanimous decision at 2003's UFC 44, then fell again to Chuck Liddell (21-5) via a second-round TKO at UFC 47 four years later.*

Ortiz’s rematch against Liddell at UFC 66 in December 2006 remains the largest UFC pay-per-view to date, with a reported 1,000,050 buys. The event also holds the North American record for paid attendance, with 12,191 fans shelling out $5,397,300 to see the former friends rumble. The 33-year-old said he’s banked over $ 1 million per fight in his latest outings, but that half those wages go to taxes and training expenses.

Money has always been at the root of a rocky relationship with Zuffa officials. In 2003, Ortiz held out on a pay raise from the Las Vegas promotion in favor of a supporting movie role in a sequel to “The Crow." Ortiz eventually returned to the fold, but the relationship remained strained.

Ortiz’s troubles with the promotion have become public fodder, particularly with his former manager turned UFC president Dana White, who has belittled the fighter and his girlfriend, Jenna Jameson -- the world’s most recognizable porn star -- in numerous interviews.

The clash between promoter and fighter came to a head last fall, when Spike TV aired a special documenting a regulated boxing session the two were to have had in a Las Vegas gym. Ortiz said he pulled out of the bout ahead of time, claiming compensation for the publicity stunt was never agreed upon. The cameras rolled with White waiting at the scales.

Nearing the end of his contract last year, Ortiz opted to go back to the table with UFC majority owner Lorenzo Fertitta. Subsequent negotiations stalled.

“They said I wasn’t worth the money,” said Ortiz. “I was worth no more than what I’m getting paid now, and I’m not a commodity to them anymore. I’m not as viable to them anymore. That was a sign of disrespect.”

Ortiz also believes White's ill feelings towards him will most likely prevent the fighter from getting a shot at the UFC title again.

"With Dana in charge, I don't think that fight will ever happen for me," said Ortiz. "Dana has bad blood for me and nothing but bad blood. They're going to try and ruin me."

Often at the center of controversy in the sport, bleached-blonde wrestler Ortiz, 33, has managed to stay in the spotlight despite his inactivity. After his heated July 7 draw with “The Ultimate Fighter 3” reality TV series winner Rashad Evans (11-0-1) at UFC 73 “Stacked” in Sacramento, Ortiz (15-5-1) landed a stint on NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” alongside KISS frontman Gene Simmons and actor Stephen Baldwin. The show is now in its third week, with Ortiz donating his earnings to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.

“UFC is caring so much about the brand itself,” said Ortiz. “They could care less about the fighters. Fighters are a dime a dozen. They’ll keep coming. Dana is really out for himself and the company. He doesn’t give a s--t about the fighters.”

Attempts to reach Zuffa for comment were unsuccessful."

damn I totally missed this one.. .Thanks H-funk. Good fight. Corey can really be a beast at 155 if he gets with the right team.

During the season of THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER he was on ... he was coached by JENS PULVER (who really liked him). JEREMY HORN came in as a special visit coach one episode and was totally diggin' Corey's physical stature and raw talent (considering he was VERY NEW to the sport). Corey got alot of praise from both Horn/Pulver, who are both MILETICH FIGHTING SYSTEMS-based cats. Horn invited him out to train with him (he runs his own MMA school - Elite Performance - in Salt Lake City, Utah - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Horn ). Not sure how often Horn's with the Miletich camp in Bettendorf, Iowa (Matt Hughes / Drew McFedries / Tim Sylvia / Spencer Fisher / Robbie Lawler, etc). But he (COREY HILL) now trains with the Miletich camp.

Yeah I remember that episode. I think dude is a great talent. But what do I know I thought a lot of Kendal Grove and we see how he's turned out.:smh: Should be fun to watch Corey develop though.

Kendall Grove's definitely had a rough go overall in the past year.

He appeared very promising out the gate (especially aligning himself early on with Tito's camp up in Big Bear ... with others like JOSH BURKMAN as well).

Come to think of it ... does Tito still train? He's got a PPV fight against LYOTO MACHIDA (pictured below) in May 2008. But fuck ... if guys like them (Kendall/Josh) continue losing ... they should call up TITO and bitch him out. Tell him he's devoting way too much time to Ms. Anorexia herself (Jenna Jameson) + The Donald (and the current season of Celebrity Apprentice)

LYOTO ain't no muthafuckin' joke (Johniz will co-sign me on this one). Watch out, TITO. Quit fuckin' those loose orifices of Jenna's and get back to your squad up in the mountains, brother!!

"UFC 81: Breaking Point is an upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), that is due to take place on February 2, 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event will feature Tim Sylvia and Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira for UFC's Interim World Heavyweight Championship. Current Heavyweight champion Randy Couture declined a championship fight with Nogueira, which setup the current fight.

This event will also see the much-anticipated UFC debut of former WWE Champion and NCAA national wrestling champion Brock Lesnar when he fights former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.[1]

Jeremy Horn will also make his UFC return against Nate Marquardt, replacing an injured Thales Leites.[2]

David Heath was originally scheduled to fight Tomasz Drwal, however Drwal was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a knee injury sustained during training. Tim Boetsch agreed to replace Drwal and step in the octagon to face Heath.

Alan Belcher had to pull out of his fight with Ricardo Almeida two days prior to the fight due to a severe case of Bronchitis. He was replaced by undefeated Alaskan fighter Rob Yundt."

"I was up late last night, watching “San Quentin Unlocked” on the National Geographic channel.

Real exciting stuff.

Anyway, during the show there were commercials for an upcoming program called “Fight Science” that features some notable UFC fighters past and present.

Here’s the premise:

“The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) showcases the most skilled mixed martial art (MMA) fighters. Scientists analyze the unique fighting styles and capabilities of legendary fighters like Randy Couture, former UFC heavyweight champion Bas Rutten, former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz and two-time world submission grappling champion Dean Lister.”

The mixed martial arts (MMA) episode (and the series) debuts on the National Geographic channel on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at 8 p.m. ET. To check out a video trailer click here.

oh yeah:dance::dance: it's on... I can't wait for this one. I think Matt Hughes has so totally fucked with Sera's mind that he's allready won. Still I think it will be a good fight. Who do you like H-Funk?

It should be very interesting, bro. I'm really looking forward to SERRA/GSP II in 2 months. I'm thinking of taking a vacation day that night and going to watch the fights at my dad's local sports bar (as we did for UFC 79). Good father/son time (and it was great watching GSP dominate hughes in the 3rd battle of their careers. I really hope that GSP's got Serra's # this time. It would be great for the sport ... considering MONTREAL already has an excellent MMA market as is (great wrestling squads there too). Plus it would be nice to see those guys (including GSP's homies Cote and Loiseau) get some shine. They deserve it. Big ups, Montreal!

I've had a chance to watch one WEC event and it's quite exciting. I really hope they play around with the weight classes in the UFC in the years to come. Rogan and Goldberg were hinting they'd like to see that too. Making note a few months back how it's cool the WEC has got lighter classes and they'd like to see the 145s in the Octagon too.

Interesting write-up from porn performer / amateur fighter LANCE STRONG giving props to GSP (just after the UFC 79 ppv wherein he beat Matt Hughes in the 3rd of their battles). Talks about GSP's wrestling skills - check this link here (the DAILYMOTION linkage below) too. Neat to see GSP in a non-MMA setting wherein it's purely wrestling and not striking-included.

"Georges “Rush” St. Pierre VS Matt Hughes

Congrats to GSP, I think he was in some of the best shape of his career that night! Stuffing all of Matt Hughes take down attempts and scoring all of his. This was a complete ass raping if I ever saw one. From start to finish.

One thing that pissed me off was all this pre-fight non-sense about GSP not being shape, unprepared and Matt Hughes “Going back to his roots” and his wrestling. Pure UFC hype-machine. Brilliant marketing, but a serious disservice to honest commentating. First I’ll deal with the part about GSP not being in shape, and unprepared. Prior to this match he was helping to train Keith Jardine for his match with Liddell, also Nate Marquardt, Rashad Evans and has always trained with a host of world class athletes. When he got the offer to fight he was training for the Canadian Olympic Wrestling trials. Anyone who has ever wrestled would know that yo don’t go in to anything of that caliber out of shape.

Now on to Matt Hughes going back to his wrestling roots. The last fight saw Hughes frustrated by GSP’s takedown defence and taken down at will by GSP. Even when Matt “The Wrestling Legend” Hughes has both hands around his waist he could not take him down! So what exactly is different in his game plan? He was out-wrestled last time, so how is this argument valid? Not to mention the fact that hardly a word was spoken about GSP’s wrestling ability. Which even without Hughes in the mix, GSP has dominated wrestlers at their own game! Take Josh Koscheck for example. He has been called the best pure wrestler in MMA! I call bullshit! GSP in that fight controlled and won that fight against Kos in the ground game! Overwhelming the blond kid at “His own game”. Now some have said that GSP was MMA Wresling which is different from pure wrestling due to worrying about punches and knees for instance. OK even if that had merit (which is debatable IMO) then let me direct your attention to a man named Otto Olsen. I have had the pleasure of training with him and watching many of his fights live and he is one of the best “Wrestlers” I have ever seen fight. Strong as fuck and incredibly skilled. He also holds an NCAA win over Josh Koscheck. Overall they are 1-1 against each other from what I found out anyway.Link Here

Now look to GSP vs Otto Olsen in the ADCC tournament. The premiere pure submission grappling tournament in the world. GSP with no striking to rely on handled him pretty effectively, as he handled Kos in MMA, and Matt Hughes. So tell me again what is different? There is no debate over who is the better striker, or submission specialist. Though this wrestling thing keeps coming up. I’m gonna say this publicly, Georges St. Pierre is the best Wrestler in MMA right now!"
