In case you missed it

H-Funk,I think that Rios stuff is more hurtful to MMA.

Is that where people watch it online and there are no crowds?

That's what got MMA banned in the first place.

Never heard about it or seen it myself. Just quoted Izzy Drake's post (final paragraph notes: "Rio Heroes is crazy and cats like Wanderlai are denouncing it by claiming that its setting the MMA back to its prehistoric days. I beg to differ. Then again I dont see how they can get a mainstream market going. Its a closed circuit stream with only current or old rio heroes fighters allowed in the arena.")

Serra provided some of the best soundbytes in recent years on this current season of TUF 6. Doggin' Hughes continously ... especially when his squad pulled off numerous consecutive wins.

Bigged up his team and said it felt great to be leaving Hughes in the dust, and probably was doin' wonders for the egomaniac's self-esteem, pride, heart, and so on

I think it would have been an interesting fight.

HUGHES got on GSP their first fight
GSP kicked Hughes' ass in the rematch
SERRA kicked GSP's ass in their fight

I'm looking forward to HUGHES-GSP III. :D

I was impressed with the TUF6 finale.

Some good fights (especially Mandaloniz/Hightower, Koppenhaver/Rollins, and Huerta/Guida). Definitely a solid showing considering there've been some seasons with pretty dismal finales.

it was a great night even though my damned dvr stopped recording as soon as the Guida Huerta fight started. I guess it ran over in time. War Machine surprised the hell out of me he showed a lot of heart.

On a side note what is the grace period we should give before discussing the outcome of fights. I know a lot of people don't have access to watch a lot of the fights live and I'm always worried about spoiling it for some one.

Yes ... I think the event ran about 8 - 12 minutes over in total. In/around there.

As far as a grace period goes ... great point and question, bro. I'd say give it a handful of days or week + ... and just not outwardly spoil it in replies or separate thread titles. Also ... be sure to share reupped links (your own or stuff you find online). Always good to get the fights out there to everyone.

huertaguida.jpg

thanks for that reply H-Funk. I'll definitely take that into consideration next time I want to discuss a fight. Oh yeah if you get a chance definitely check out Merce's thread that Johniz was referring to. I swear it's like he has every fight to ever happen in that shit.

True, H Funk. I still re up any fights, or docs I may have on my own.

As far as grace, there are some BIG fights that are no brainers. People post the results in the thread, make avatars and gifs, hell whenever I update my blog it already has the results!

Maybe wwe should start our OWN discussion thread in the Sport section ...

coolio ...

COOLIO + JOHNIZ,

I'll definitely check out Merce's thread, as noted.

Big ups to both ya'll brothers on always keeping the fight game convo'/threads going.

Johniz - the Sports section doesn't get enough love. It's probably best to stick with BGOL wherein the IN CASE YOU MISSED IT joint we got runnin' here is at 30,000 + pageviews and going strong ( August 2006 - December 2007 and beyond ) ... and with other side threads like the TUF 6 one, or fave fights of ours (i.e. - the Huerta/Garcia one, and so on) ...

Big ups to MOORE:

The numbers are in, and pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather lived up to his new self-given nickname of "Money" Mayweather.

Mayweather's 10th-round knockout of England's Ricky Hatton to retain the welterweight championship Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas generated a whopping 850,000 domestic pay-per-view buys and $47 million in television revenue, HBO PPV's Mark Taffet said Monday.

Floyd Mayweather, facing, and Ricky Hatton were happy doing business together.
That makes the fight the biggest pay-per-view fight in history that did not involve Oscar De La Hoya or heavyweights Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield.

"Mayweather-Hatton was one of boxing's most memorable nights of the past decade and was the perfect ending to a resurgent year for the sport," Taffet said. "Also, in becoming the highest-grossing PPV fight ever in which neither a heavyweight nor a Latino superstar was featured, Mayweather-Hatton blazed a new trail, which opens new doors and bodes very well for the future."

Mayweather-Hatton, which generated 520,000 subscriptions from cable homes and 330,000 from satellite homes, was the second-biggest boxing pay-per-view fight of the year. But Mayweather was also half of the biggest one.

His decision victory against De La Hoya on May 5 generated numerous records, including 2.4 million PPV buys and $134 million in PPV revenue.

With a second blockbuster pay-per-view event this year, Mayweather earned about $50 million in purses.

The fight also capped a record-breaking year for HBO PPV, Taffet said. Its eight boxing events sold 4.8 million units and generated $255 million.

That breaks the 1999 record of 4 million buys and $200 million.

Loser Hatton is a £20m winnerBy PAT SHEEHAN

Published: 11 Dec 2007

RICKY HATTON is in line for a whopping £20MILLION pay day following his epic fight with Floyd Mayweather.

The Hitman was KO’d in the 10th round of their WBC welterweight title bout.

But the first defeat of his 44-fight career will be cushioned as the cash generated by the Las Vegas showdown is reaching mind-boggling proportions after it shattered Sky’s pay-per-view record.

Hatton, 29, was already in line to pocket a career-high purse of £4m.

Sky are refusing to comment but the previous record of 750,000 sales, set when Lennox Lewis beat Mike Tyson in June 2002, has been beaten by about 150,000.

Best-paid boxers
Hatton’s team shrewdly negotiated a package with Sky that he would get a percentage of every PPV buy above 350,000.

Early estimates indicate the final figure will be at least 2½ times greater than that — around 900,000 — making Hatton one of the best-paid boxers of all time.

Hatton’s dad, Ray, is also his manager and insisted on keeping the UK TV rights.

And that has turned out to be one of the best bits of business the Manchester fighter has ever done — and now means he has hit the very-big time.

The figures for money generated by the clash are being revised ‘up’ every day and the final total is now heading towards the dizzying £70m mark.

American broadcasters HBO are so delighted with the ‘Hatton factor’ they have already told Hatton snr they want to sit down at the earliest possible date to discuss his son’s next fight.

Pay-per-view figures in the United States are expected to top 1.5m sales, which will bring in £41.25m.

Tickets to watch the fight live at Vegas’ 16,000-capacity MGM Garden Arena were snapped up within 30 minutes of going on sale and had cash tills ringing to the tune of another £5m.

On the black market, ringside seats were being offered for a staggering £8,000, while ‘ordinary’ seats were fetching £750.

Other casino-hotels along the Las Vegas strip screened the fight on CCTV and EVERY one of the 21,000 tickets were bought by punters.

Fanatical Manchester City fan Hatton is now a huge box office attraction all over the world.

In China alone an estimated 50 MILLION people tuned in to watch the fight.

Yea, but to prove Mayweather is NOT the major reason for it, make a Mayweather-Margarito or Mayweather-Williams fight and see how it sells.

Only Cotto could help Floyd come close to those numbers.

J' - how long has Ricky Hatton been in the fight game?

I didn't realize he was such a force on the PPV buy circuit. I'm more into MMA than boxing, so I wasn't too familiar with the cat.

Ricky Hatton has been around since 2004 or so after he beat Kostya.

But he has DUCKED Junior Witter, a decent Jamaican Brit.

Now that he's lost ...
