NEWARK, N.J. - Rashad Evans couldn't wait for Saturday night to take a poke at Michael Bisping.
The weigh-ins for the UFC 78 pay-per-view show ended Friday with Evans shoving Bisping after refusing to shake hands. The two were separated by UFC president Dana White and their respective seconds before leaving the stage at the Prudential Center Practice Rink.
Evans and Bisping headline UFC 78 in a battle of unbeaten light-heavyweight fighters and previous winners of the Ultimate Fighter reality show.
WHITE, COUTURE CONFLICT CONTINUES
The relationship between White and heavyweight champion Randy Couture is so strained that the two sides disagree about whether they will be meeting to try and resolve their issues.
White reiterated to FOXSports.com on Friday that he will speak face-to-face with Couture on Tuesday in Las Vegas. A Couture spokesman told FOXSports.com that no such get-together will take place.
UFC 78
FOXSports.com's Alex Marvez will be blogging live from UFC 78 on Saturday night. If you can't be at the event, check back here for his reports.
Expect more awkwardness at UFC 78, as Couture will be in the corner of Karo Parisyan for his welterweight fight against Ryo Chonan. UFC announcers have yet to acknowledge Couture's plans to leave the promotion and continue to feature him on television specials. Couture's decision is based largely on unhappiness with his contract.
White has left the door open for reconciliation by not stripping Couture of his heavyweight title. White, though, said he wants to know by the end of next week whether Couture is willing to return for a title defense against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Otherwise, White will pit Nogueira against Tim Sylvia for the belt.
White was unaware that Couture was coming to Saturday's event but said he doesn't plan to meet with him this weekend. Besides overseeing UFC 78,
White also is preparing for a Monday casting call for the next season of the Ultimate Fighter reality show.
HOME-FIELD ADVANTAGE FOR ST-PIERRE?
Georges St-Pierre might have the chance to fight for UFC's welterweight title in his home country of Canada after all. A source said St-Pierre will likely headline an April UFC show in Montreal against the winner of December's Matt Serra-Matt Hughes championship fight in Las Vegas. UFC canceled a show in Montreal planned for January ...
Because of the screenwriters' strike, there are rumblings that CBS has interest in airing the UFC 80 show emanating Jan. 19 from Newcastle in the United Kingdom. That would mark a major mainstream breakthrough for UFC, which has yet to air on network television ...
Bisping is the second consecutive international UFC headliner who arrived later than expected. Originally slated to arrive in Newark on Sunday, Bisping didn't land until Wednesday because of passport problems in the United Kingdom. Last month, Brazilian star Anderson Silva arrived a day later than expected before his fight with Rich Franklin. The delay didn't affect Silva, who scored a devastating second-round TKO of Franklin in the main event of UFC 77 in Cincinnati ...
Bisping lost a $20 wager to UFC announcer Joe Rogan at the weigh-ins. Bisping bet that the estimated crowd of 1,000 fans wouldn't boo during the introductions. Bisping, though, was jeered. Either fans want the American-born Evans to win or Bisping left a sour taste from his post-fight behavior following a controversial decision victory over Matt Hamill in September ...
All UFC fighters made their designated weights Friday ...
White said a Jan. 23 UFC Fight Night special will likely be held in Las Vegas.
