Improving your Credit and Credit Score

For the record...

My shit is well above 750 for all three CRA's and I am in the process of buying a house at 3.75% interest at this time.

Read and learn.

could this work for a old student loan that got sent to collections or is that a different animal?

How long did it take you to get to where you're at now (well above 750)?
And what was your starting point?

I started here...

myFICO as of 2-13-09

TU 620

EQ 668

EX 627

Much improved from the high 500's I had in just two months.

And I followed the first step in this thread. Got my credit reports and everything on their if I remember owing it or I didn't I made up one of those letters and sent it to them and asked them to prove it.

They didn't most of the time and my shit jumped to around 680 on all of them.

Then I found creditboards.com like was suggested and got to work on the ones that didn't fall off.

No this will not work for a student loan. It won't work for anything government backed because they keep all their paperwork and if they don't they will tell you they did and dare you to say some shit!

You're best bet on a student loan is to contact the original issuer and ask the for a rehab deal and start paying it. After it's rehabbed they will show it as being paid on time and boost your credit score.

I had to do that myself.

im at about 730 now, about to apply for the amex gold again, my last one was closed 2005.

take heed, im looking to hit 760 after i pick up the amex and continue keep my utilization low below 10%. amex will backdate my card to like 1999 and my average age will skyrocket.

question, on my credit report they have me listed as "E... Jr" and I am not a Jr. How can I use this to my advantage?

what does it actually mean when 1 of the 3 credit bureaus cannot give you a score, they say not enough data to come up with one but the other 2 are giving pretty high scores...please need some assistance

Can anyone verify that the steps the OP posted in this thread for Credit Repair are still valid for 2013?

the steps/advice are still up to date and solid. When it comes to FICO scores, folks would be amazed at what focusing on utilization can accomplish.

the secured credit card angle works foe you guys? I know a lady who was denied a secured credit card by two companies.

The closest I have come to a secured card is an American Express (and I just recently got that). I dont have credit issues but I can say that everything mentioned here is valuable information. At any present time the one thing that you can control the most that has a huge impact is utilization. Keep your balances low. If you have negative accounts that you cant get removed or resolved, you just have to wait them out.. they will be there. In the meantime focus on the credit that you presently have and keep those accounts in good standings by paying on time and keeping balances low. Another tip that I dont think was mentioned.. many accounts that charge interest monthly tally up that amount at the end of the billing statement. Making payments bi-weekly will help cut the fat (interest) by lowering the principle the interest is charged against. Its not an overnight fix but its a good practice that will help you long term.

I just can't be fuckin' bothered to do this shit yet...in 2 weeks about $35k in private student loans is about to default...them assholes do NOT give a fuck about your monthly expenses and do NOT compromise. You have to pay what they say or else...I told that mofo agent to let it roll pimp.

I'm not trying to buy a house or finance another car....career is too mobile for that in my 30s.

The fucking medical bills...my insurance only covered 80% of an emergency...I was on the hook $5k + $1900 for the ambulance because them bitches didn't use my insurance card info or some shit. By the time I caught up with the mailings, it was too late.

I have a secured credit card.

It's secured with CD's (certificates of Deposit). $2000 worth, but my limit is $1800

You know you could have filed a claim with your insurance yourself:hmm:

Congrats to the people that have good credit.
I got bad credit due to bad real estate investments
I am trapped in a hell and cannot do anything with myself.
Contemplating suicide now.

I would like to think that this is a very bad joke. However, it is whatever YOU make it. You can bounce back from anything that did not kill you. But if you do it then that is it. Look at only the good side of things and before you know it you will only see and enjoy the good things. Just think for a sec... can you walk, talk, hear, clean yourself? When you took a shit did someone wipe your ass or were you able to do the job. It is all how you look at things and it is what you make it.

this woman has credit in the mid 500s. She applied for a secured card with capital one and her credit union. Both was rejected. she recieved notices she was denied because she had bad credit.

at the top of the creditboards site there's a link that says "creditpulls". thats a pretty good place to see what cars you're likely to be approved for with certain scores.

so say ur best score is currently 565 on transunion. enter than in the database and it'll tell u which cards people were approved (and rejected) for at that score. that way u know which cards ur likely to get.

i'd go with...

fix the jr part by mailing your corrected info to the 3 credit reporting agencies along with identifying proof. copy of passport, SS card, license.

then after they fix it, you might be able to knock off any of the negative shit on your report listed under "jr" by disputing it as "not mine" since u are E, not E Junior. longshot but worth a try though.

From another credit thread....
Just another take on the steps. Prolly similar to whats already listed in here...
this guy is documenting his step by step journey to repairing/ improving his credit. he listed the exact 10 steps most would need to take to get shit done in a 2 page thread so you don't have to chase threads down or read for weeks like some of us did back in the day:
http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=509227

if u run into an acronym or abbreviation that u dont know u can look it up on the site or ask someone in here.
also...

here are sample letters. you may need 1 or some of these depending on what your situation is. i would change some of the language in them so they don't look like you're just using a template.
