Improving your Credit and Credit Score

On this point right here, do I still have to send them (collection agency) a letter if the Credit Agencies have deleted this from my reports? Will it reappear even if I've had it deleted? Thanks.

5) Dispute all collections first. Wait till after you have changed your addresses on your credit reports (30 days from receipt). Then its time to attack the Collection Agencies. Write to the collection agency itself and request any documentation that they have that proves that you owe them any money or are obligated to pay them (AND MAKE SURE NOT TO SIGN THE LETTER). Ask them for any document you have signed with them stating that you owe them something or received any services from them. Request from them that they need to send you proof within 30 days of notice, or they shall report it to all the credit agencies that this item should be removed. If they do not, threaten to sue them. I have included a sample letter that worked for me. Most likely, they will not respond. Wait 30 days after you received confirmation they got it, and send a dispute letter to your credit agencies. It should come off nice and easy!

Damn, this shit is still going? I'm happy it helped some people out. Knowledge is power.

To LatinDragonXJC, if its not being reported to the CRAs, then I wouldn't write to the Collections. Anything can come back on your credit report, but most won't. Thats why its very important to run your report quarterly to see if any erroneous info is on it.

The man himself! :D Thanks for the write up and advice, I would buy you mad beers if I could. I just received a letter from Transunion stating that they deleted the 1 collection on my report because the address didn't match. I'm just waiting to hear back from the other 2. Thanks again.:D

They send you a rundown of what has changed and what hasn't. Not another credit report.

I love this thread! I have a question though maybe someone can help me...

A old credit card (citibank) i owed took me to court and won, is there anyway i can remove this from my credit & how

Thanks

Checked mine out...had nothing bad on there...the only problem it said i have is the over utilization of the credit that I have. I never even knew it mattered so I'm happy i checked it out. How many cards should one have?

I guess I'll have to order my credit reports then.

i always say "please send me an updated credit report that reflects the changes that have been made"

i have gotten a new credit report every time. im not saying they have to send you one if you request it.....what i am saying is everytime i've asked for a new one they have sent it with the updates reflected in the new report. it doesnt hurt to ask all they can say is no, but i've been successful getting one. that's how i get a new credit report, i just dispute something.

if you want to see your experian, assuming you want to see it only a few times a year check your pm

yes it does. the general idea is to keep your balance under 20%

you can try disputing the judgment with the credit bureaus- transunion, equifax, experian (im assuming its a judgment that is showing up, you didnt provide more info so im just assuming)
they may remove it but most likely they wont and even if they remove it its possible it will just come back in the future.

only way to remove the judgment (assuming its a judgment) is to lay low and hope they dont try to collect on it, or go to court and vacate the judgment. now, i dont know what state you are in, but the state you are in determines the procedures for vacating the judgment.

the way the judgment was entered too plays a role. in other words was it a default judgment? was it a judgment entered after argument? judgment entered on consent? the way this judgment was......"decided" and entered will factor into whether you will be able to now go back and file a motion to vacate the judgment. if the judgment was entered by default you may have a chance to fight it... again i dont know what state you are in.

the other problem you are going to have is that the plaintiff was the original creditor. its hard to fight them because they always have proof. what will help you here i think will probably be some technicality or if you have proof you paid them or something along those lines.

again, its hard to assume you need to provide more information. provide a clear timeline and facts about what happened.

Thanks GG, I believe the judgment was entered my default, but i'll have to check my credit report for more details. I am in Illinois, Chicago...I think i'm going to try to lay low and see what happens but i know they was trying to collect on it but i changed my number not to dodge them but because i had a stalker. So i'm not sure what my status is now. does this help?

bump, good knowledge. Anyone know if it's anything you can do about student loans. I'm back in school after a while out, but my student loans went into collections b/c sallie mae refused to give me any more money hardship extensions.

It makes them manually process it, which they are loathe to do. I've also heard that it's good to use colored paper and to dispute around the holidays, since people aren't really trying to work around that time.

I'm not sure if this is correct. I have always got an adequate response to all my electronic disputes, just as recent as last month.

naaaah you gotta mail it..... & IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING THEY WONT FUCK WIT YOU........ MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT USE BLACK INK.... BLUE OR RED.......

I was just looking into tips to improve my credit, since I'm considering house hunting. Anyone know if there is any fact to what I just quoted? Not saying mailboxpimp doesn't know what he's talking about but it somewhat doesn't make sense. Submitting a validation along with a dispute online should have the same result as a letter. Is there a reason why a letter would be better? What logical reason would it be to not type up a letter in black ink or to use colored paper? Can't they just read and respond?

Maybe I'm missing something.
