"I'm Puerto Rican" Nuggets Michael Porter Jr. Involved in a Car Tow Issue

keep saying it the problem is multifaceted , u do bring up somethings i've been saying, tho white latinos do indeed turn into whites americans rafael "cancun" cruz etc

Yes, not all white latinos turn themselves into white americans but some like Cruz do. By the same token, some black latinos turn themselves into African Americans too. I have cousins that have done this. On a side related note, people don't even know what to call Brian Flores in this situation https://time.com/6145755/brian-flores-lawsuit-rooney-rule-diversity/

Again. The problem is defining black as African American. Simply put, when black latinos get to this country they are straight up told that Black means African American and that African American is something different from Latino or Hispanic. This is the root of why a lot of black latinos don't call themselves "black". They are nationalistic and down for whatever country they came from. Now they can't be latino anymore just because they are black and arrived to the United States? That's the dilemma. And African Americans contribute to this confusion by telling black latinos "Oh, I thought you wuz black" just because they hear a black latino speak Spanish. It's as if the English language makes you more African than the Spanish language for some people.

Black Cubans, Dominicans, Panamanians, Ecuadorians, Colombians, etc have no doubts about their blackness because they are black wherever they go. It's only when they get to the U.S do they face this weird system where they can't call themselves black anymore. As a Central American, I will say that this actually has helped to unify latinos of all races in the U.S. If white latinos would have turned into white americans and black latinos would have converted into black americans than maybe just the indian looking ones would join the navajos or something. who knows
Great summation and spot on. Again, the problem lies with the word “black” in the US.

Brian Flores is a black man here but if he went back to his native Honduras, he’d instantly be a Honduran in Central America, before a black man.

Nationality always precedes race in most places around the world, with exception to the United States.

The real question is why do African Americans not understand that the I am black is only something done in this country.

Black is not what melanated or others do in other parts of the world.

Mofokrs ain't walking around the African continent talking about they are black. They say they are whatever tribe or country they are.

Amer I Cans claim their description because they do not know their tribe of country.....

Nobody proclaims their social construct except here
I watch a lot of videos that originate in Africa and I hear them refer to themselves as Black all the time.
As I run into more of them I'll start posting them up.

So my question is why were people so upset with movement of black folk separating ourselves from the people who say they aren't black (Africans, West Indians, Caribbeans, South Americans, etc......)?

All of sudden it was:

"c'mon man we all brother from the same mother African Diaspora and the fight against white man".

I've never heard most of them deny their Blackness - they do, now, but it's only as a direct result of coming into contact with our Western/Euro created social construct of White/Black/Red/Yellow.

It's also true most people identify by their group/tribe outside of us

I’ve asked this as well. Black Americans SHOULD have our own designation other than “black”, the same way everyone else does. Shouldn’t be a question really.

Seriously, this bugs me out...why do some black people take offense when Dominican, Puerto Rican’s, or anyone else tell people that they are not black, they are Dominican. Why do you get so offended? Why are niggas desperate for everyone to be black? I don’t get it.

So, to make people happy, people must pretend they are not Puerto Rican or Dominican and claim black to make niggas happy?

If you call a Korean nigga Chinese, he will quickly correct you and nobody will be offended. BUT if you call a Dominican nigga black and he says he’s not black, he’s Dominican, suddenly everyone is in an uproar. (And yes, I know that Dominican isn’t a race and blah blah... but still)

Wholeheartedly agree. If these muthafuckas don't identify as Black then that's their business.

The problem is they throw Nigga out more than We do. They also seem to think Police will pull them over and say ohhhhh you’re Puerto Rican? Ok Nevermind I was going to call you an N word until you told me your peoples slave ship was captained by Spaniards vs English. Ok you’re good to go. Doesn’t matter that you look like Westley Snipes Puerto Ricans miraculously appeared from outer space to the island
