I agree with the OP. One thing about the slave movies they never really go to deep on how evil white folks are. They just scratch the surface, but they won't peel back layers and show the real evils of the slavery.

That was a bad example. I can understand what you mean... but that's a bad example. There is a new Holocaust-related movie out every fucking week...seriously. It may not be Holocaust-only but there are a lot of ties to it in their movies. I watch a lot of international movies too so I'm not just thinking through the big hollywood budget films.

I haven't watched any of the new slave series yet but that's what I came to say. If they are adding new perspectives on slavery that isn't commonly told I say they should keep them coming.

But I feel you OP, slavery isn't our only history. I'd actually like to see more stories about blacks post slavery tho, like reconstruction are or boardwalk empire.
We tend to see so few dynamic roles for black tv shows.

Roots was a great series when it came out and was seen by US all....Because of its age it is dated so hopefully the remake is as great because the new generation needs to see it to know.

Hell I was born in the tail end of the 70s and I remember how rough it was being Black in the 80s in West Tennessee. I also grew up in the area where 7 black churches were burned. One was my home Churches sister Church, Jones Grove.

The Nat Turner flick is the only slave movie that I'm looking forward to. Hollywood is only willing to tell one story of the slave narrative and that usually has a white man coming to save the day. Nat Turner will change that narrative.
