If you could run your own television station, what kind of shows would you air?

If you were a program director, What would be your line up?
You can use existing shows or you can make up your own show.

The second coming of Techtv. I'll bring up all the hosts, all the shows, and tell them to do it again. The screen savers, call for help, fresh gear, I still youtube old eps. There is no channel out here dedicated strictly for technology ... and please don't count G4. That channel ain't nothing but Spike Jr.

id do the same for SCIFI(not SyFy)..show movies that arent those wack"monster/nature run amok" films with ps2/xbox/N64 quality CGI that they show every weekend  would also show anime as well..

maybe also try to do some miniseries based off some favorite books i have read, like

I would run one 24 hour show on a livefeed where a crew of highly skilled mercenaries would track down white collar criminals (bankers, financial analyst,Fortune 500 executives, every other person who worked on Wall Street 2000-2009, ANY PUBLIC OFFICALS) who ruined the lives of millions and got off with slaps on the wrist and execute their ass in front of the Lincoln Memorial....

The show's name....AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.:hmm:

FUCK EM'
*two cents*

all the great 80's sitcoms, gameshows, and movies. I'd bring Saturday morning cartoons back with a vengeance. I'd call the channel "throwback."

I'd have a poll on the website where viewers can vote for new shows.

I'd try to bring old school music videos back as well.

After launching Techtv again, this would be my next channel. Agreed, an all 80's channel even with 80's commercials. The closest channel to this idea is Boomerang, TV Land went to pot.

FINALLY - THIS IS ONE OF THE ANSWERS I WAS LOOKING FOR.
But to most people, this channel would be Boring and not watch.

But when COON-TV is on, people complain about not having anything Good to watch.

FINALLY - THIS IS THE ANSWER I WAS LOOKING FOR.

Better be a PUBLIC TV station (or one in a school) because that programming wouldn't survive a day on commercial air. You'd be out of business and broke before you could say "Jackie Robinson."

 You are right about that. But to be real. If I owned the station then that means that chances are I am trying to make money. You can say what you would put on but in the end ratings really dictate what will be put on the air. Ratings = advertising $$$.

Not sure if my idea is even possible. :dunno:

But if I were running a TV station, like Bob Johnson...
I would try to set-it up like this...

Offer TV programming in 2 'modes' ...

1. A Traditional mode. (pre-programmed)
2. An 'On Demand' mode. (customizable, like TiVO)

The Traditional mode would feature a 'balanced' line-up of...

- Current News
- New Dramatic Series (TBD)
- New Comedy Sitcoms (TBD)
- New Sports Programming (TBD)
- New 'Movies of the Week'. (TBD)
- New Movies, or Talk Shows for Women (TBD)
- New Independent Films and/or Documentaries (TBD)

Didn't put much thought into the exact shows.
I would leave that for another day.
--------------------
But the 'on-demand' mode is where the difference lives.

On my TV station, the "On-Demand' option would be similar to a Pandora app.
Viewers can customize their very own weekly 'line-ups', based on Categories.

Say Harold from Detroit likes....
- Sports, Classic Hip-Hop, Documentaries & Technology.

Each day / week, the station would build a 'playlist' of syndicated content, mixed with NEW shows that 'fit' his categories... then just 'randomize' the timing of TV schedule.

Sample Playlist...

- Harold's Music Shows include:
Yo! MTV Raps re-runs, [insert New 2010 Video Countdown show], BET Rap City re-runs, Video Music Box re-runs, etc.

- Harold's Sports Shows include:
Pardon The Interruption, Black College Football, [insert New 2010 NBA games] , Boxing Classics, etc.

- Harold's Documentaries include:
How it's Made re-runs, [insert new 2010 Discovery Channel episode] , Old Nova re-runs, Old PBS re-runs, etc.

- Harold's Technology shows include:
'How it's Made' re-runs, [insert new 2010 G4 Show] , Old Nova re-runs, Tech TV re-runs, etc.

Harold can further tailor the 'suggested' shows to serve-up exactly what he wants.
However, All advertising Commercials would be New.
Audiences would be tracked more like 'YouTube Views'

So when Harold turns on my channel today... he sees a semi-customized line-up....

Tuesday 4/6/2010

8-9 am: Yo!MTV Raps (syndicated / on-demand)
-------
9-9:30 am: Tech TV: The Screensavers (syndicated / on-demand)
-------
9:30-11am: The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh (suggested show)
-------
11-2:00 pm: Black College Football (new game 2010 season)
-------
2-3:30 pm: Discovery Channel: Shark Week (syndicated / on-demand)
-------
3:30-4pm: New Comedy Sitcom (TBD)
-------
4-5pm: New Talk Show (TBD or suggested show)
-------
5-6:30pm Current Local, World Politics & Sports News
-------
6:30-8pm: New Comedy Sitcoms (TBD) and/or New Music Countdown Show (TBD)
-------
8-9pm: New Dramatic Series (TBD)
-------
9-11pm: Dramatic Series Re-runs (suggested show) or New 'Movie of the Week'. (TBD)

Sure it works like TIVO. Or whatever.
Folks can either watch the shows my Station programs, or create their own line-ups.
Either way, they still watching my channel. :D

have a cable channel devoted to "grindhouse" type films,b-movies,blaxploitation,etc..maybe let quentin tarantino and robert rodriguez show their favorite films every now and again, and get joe bob briggs to do a show similar to the one he did for TNT

would also bring back these shows

save them for late nights on saturdays and do a "Jay-walking" type thing before the commercial breaks

The only thing missing from the list is music (Rnb, Neo-Soul, Conscious Hip-Hop [Roots, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Little Brother], Jazz, Black Soul [Sam Cooke, Otis Redding]). Other than that, that's all the stuff I would air.
