Not sure if my idea is even possible.
But if I were running a TV station, like Bob Johnson...
I would try to set-it up like this...
Offer TV programming in 2 'modes' ...
1. A Traditional mode. (pre-programmed)
2. An 'On Demand' mode. (customizable, like TiVO)
The Traditional mode would feature a 'balanced' line-up of...
- Current News
- New Dramatic Series (TBD)
- New Comedy Sitcoms (TBD)
- New Sports Programming (TBD)
- New 'Movies of the Week'. (TBD)
- New Movies, or Talk Shows for Women (TBD)
- New Independent Films and/or Documentaries (TBD)
Didn't put much thought into the exact shows.
I would leave that for another day.

--------------------
But the 'on-demand' mode is where the difference lives.
On my TV station, the "On-Demand' option would be similar to a Pandora app.

Viewers can customize their very own weekly 'line-ups', based on Categories.
Say Harold from Detroit likes....
- Sports, Classic Hip-Hop, Documentaries & Technology.
Each day / week, the station would build a 'playlist' of syndicated content, mixed with NEW shows that 'fit' his categories... then just 'randomize' the timing of TV schedule.
Sample Playlist...
- Harold's Music Shows include:
Yo! MTV Raps re-runs, [insert New 2010 Video Countdown show], BET Rap City re-runs, Video Music Box re-runs, etc.
- Harold's Sports Shows include:
Pardon The Interruption, Black College Football, [insert New 2010 NBA games] , Boxing Classics, etc.
- Harold's Documentaries include:
How it's Made re-runs, [insert new 2010 Discovery Channel episode] , Old Nova re-runs, Old PBS re-runs, etc.
- Harold's Technology shows include:
'How it's Made' re-runs, [insert new 2010 G4 Show] , Old Nova re-runs, Tech TV re-runs, etc.
Harold can further tailor the 'suggested' shows to serve-up exactly what he wants.
However, All advertising Commercials would be New.
Audiences would be tracked more like 'YouTube Views'
So when Harold turns on my channel today... he sees a semi-customized line-up....

Sure it works like TIVO. Or whatever.

Folks can either watch the shows my Station programs, or create their own line-ups.

Either way, they still watching my channel.
