Sources: BIG3 returning for a July 10 tip; HBCU will host games

After a one-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the BIG3 — the popular 3-on-3 basketball league founded by hip-hop icon Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz — will tip off its 2021 season on July 10, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The fourth season of BIG3 action will be a 10-week campaign with games played at two locations: Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and at Xavier University, an HBCU in New Orleans, sources said.

CBS will return as the broadcast partner and each contest will be aired live, sources said.

The minimum age limit for the BIG3 was reduced following the 2019 season from 27 years old to 22, and the league is now open to non-professional and professional athletes. Plus, “Bring the Fire” was announced as an addition last year, allowing players to contest a foul by playing one-on-one. :eek2:

The BIG3 will work with local health and safety officials to determine fan capacity.

BIG3 OFFERS CAITLIN CLARK $5 MIL TO JOIN!!!
Could Still Play in WNBA

TMZ
3/27/2024

- Ice Cube is now speaking out on the offer ... saying it was a no-brainer to pitch Clark to his organization.

"Caitlin is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the BIG3," he said minutes ago on X ... while also pointing out the league has a track record of breaking barriers with female coaches like Nancy Lieberman and Lisa Leslie

Nancy Lieberman and Lisa Leslie.

"With our offer, Caitlin Clark can make history and break down even more barriers for women athletes," Cube added.

The BIG3 founder also thinks his org. will be a better alternative for WNBA athletes to make money during the offseason ... so they don't have to take their talents to "often dismal and dubious foreign countries" to earn a living.

"And they should have more than just one professional option in the US at a time when American pro sports leagues are being infiltrated by autocratic, anti-women regimes such as Qatar," he said. "Our pathbreaking offer to Caitlin Clark demonstrates that BIG3 now offers another choice for athletes."

Caitlin Clark is in line to make more history -- the NCAA phenom could become basketball's first-ever $5 million woman, if she accepts a massive deal from Ice Cube's Big3 league ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Sources with direct knowledge of the deal tell us Cube's up and coming basketball league has already put the unprecedented offer on the table for Caitlin -- $5 million to play 8 regular season games and possibly 2 playoff games! That's it ... 10 games for $5 mil, guaranteed.

We're told she would also get "substantial additional compensation" from merchandising and sponsorships -- but here's the biggest rub to the deal ... Big3 would allow her to also play in the WNBA.

Caitlin, who's Iowa Hawkeyes are getting ready for their Sweet 16 game this weekend in the Women's NCAA Tournament, has already declared herself for the WNBA draft next month ... and the Indiana Fever have made it clear they're picking Caitlin with their #1 pick.

There are only 2 regular season Fever games that could potentially conflict with the BIG3 schedule -- so, we're told Cube's league sees this as a win-win-win situation for both leagues, and obviously, Caitlin.

CC is the biggest name in college hoops this season, as she became the all-time scoring leader in NCAA history ... and that's for women and men, as she topped "Pistol" Pete Maravich's 54-year-old record of 3,667 points. So, there's no mystery why the BIG3 would go all out to get her.

Here's how astronomical this offer is for Caitlin -- the highest-paid player in the WNBA last year was Erica Wheeler, who made $242,000. It's expected Caitlin's WNBA deal would be slightly higher than that, but nothing in the universe of the 7-figures she stands to make from BIG3.

She would be the first female player in the BIG3, but she's famously grown up playing and practicing against male players ... so, that's nothing new for her.

The only potential hitch is that BIG3 and the NBA -- which operates the WNBA -- have bad blood. TMZ Sports broke the story ... the U.S. Dept. of Justice launched an antitrust investigation last year into allegations the NBA is making moves to crush BIG3's success.

It's unclear if the WNBA could or would block Caitlin or any other player from playing in the BIG3 -- but doing so might be a risky move, considering the DOJ investigation. As it is, many WNBA players play in other leagues overseas during their offseason in order to make more money.

We've reached out to Caitlin's camp to gauge their interest in the potentially history-making deal ... we'll let ya know as soon as we hear back.

WNBA Player Livid With Caitlin Clark's $5 Million Pro Offer From Big3 Men's League

Lexie Brown not pleased with Ice Cube's offer to Caitlin Clark. The Sparks player, who will earn a little more than $80,000 this WNBA season, took to X to give Ice Cube a piece of her mind. "so no other women’s basketball player has came to mind in the last 7 years?" … "Instead of i don’t know, supporting the women’s league that already exists…let’s do this…in the middle of the NCAA tournament. men are HILARIOUS," the former Duke player tweeted.

If Caitlin Clark Joined Big3…SHE WOULDN'T SCORE A POINT!!!

Ice Cube clearly thinks Caitlin Clark can succeed in the Big3 ... but one man who's convinced she can't is ex-NBA star Kenyon Martin, who said Wednesday she wouldn't be able to score a single point in the 3-on-3 league. "It's a step under prison ball," the former NBA player said of the Big3's action on Gilbert Arenas' "Gil's Arena Show." "Could you imagine her getting stuck down on Reggie Evans?"

Lil Durk Raises The Stakes Of Ice Cube’s BIG3 Offer To Caitlin Clark

Complex aggregated the original story from TMZ and asked their X (formerly Twitter) followers if the Hawkeyes talent should take the 10-game offer. The Chicago rapper jumped into their comments to raise the stakes and get her to join his team, writing, “I got 10 million come play with my 3.”
