I want a 9mm... any tips?

BTW if you in the NEW MEXICO or AZ (lower half) let me know and we can scare the fuck out some "CHALKIES" at the 25 yard pistol range

that is where the old COLT 1911 love to Gallup lol

BTW no one mention the all mighty KIMBER which is a BEAST a REAL BEAST

and please don't bring up the wart hog (a PARA), which is very hard to repair

plus what about those old SOVIET pistols, I think they are under Curio domain but they are very very dependable weapons and you can buy a shit load of ammo to keep on hand

Most police precincts still use 9mm FYI. And for the record, the difference between a 9 and a 40 as far as stopping power is basically shot placement. If you can't shoot for shit it's not going to matter which one you have. If I hit you once in the head or chest with a 9, you're not going to keep coming at me. And this is coming from someone with a 40. The stopping power between the two is actually pretty minimal.

http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/Stopping Power Statistics.htm

And also, if you're a novice shooter, you're more likely to be accurate with the 9 than the 40...a 40 subcompact is not a good starter gun for someone that doesn't know how to compensate for the kick. Larger rounds isn't gonna do you any good if you're hitting air.

Not true. All federal, and most state, and locals have switched to 40 cal over the 9 mm. And if you think the stopping power is equal than you haven't shot both. We're not talking shot placement, we're talking caliber. The 40 cal is lab tested and out performs the 9 mm easily. The 9 mm has been problems from jump. Most shots aren't head or chest? You need to read the lab results, homie. You're stating a lot of opinions here.

AHAHAHA THANK YOU for the person gave me the website that offered 5.7 x 28 ammo just ordered 10 boxes now it that gonna replace my kriss for my jeep gun

THANKS AGAIN

LOVE THIS THREAD great exchange of ideas

Not a glock fan in the least. Had more malfunctions with it than the XDm and my Sig. Decent gun but it basically turned into a "me too" pistol.

wow a SIG , what type wow I never had a "condition" from my SIGs (p229,p226) and I have atleast 3500 rounds on one

but a mosquito is not a real pistol (just saying):lol:

sssshhh :ssshhh:

let me see if i can get this 'faulty' glock out his hands for a good price... when it's really just cheap ammo and/or poor technique causing the problem.

I've been carrying for 10 years, sorry "limp wrist" isn't an issue. Do I really need to pull up the tons of reports of misfires and explosions of glocks? LOL @ people acting as if they don't malfunction. And SMH @ ammo advice. You dudes are hilarious.

I wasn't saying the SIG had issues, I was saying that I had more issues with the glock than both the Sig and the XDm. Never had any issues with either, thus far anyway.

yeah, pull it up...I'd like to see it for sure.

and pull up malfunctions of other guns as well so we can compare.

any gun can malfunction but glock pistols don't have their reputation for nothing. I just know that I've had two ammo jams: 1 jam in 03 shooting in the yard, & 1 jam shooting a cheap 115 grain at the indoor range today in Katy.

both were removed quickly, cleared...kept shooting within 10 sec.

I found one thing about my personal experiences with weapons:

#1 never look at the price of the weapon (it cost more to buy another limiting
your weapon choice price)
#2 go to the range, if you have a range can rent weapons that is huge plus
#3 I learned go with resell value (you might want to sell the weapon your
bought because of some strange reasons)
#4 buy a weapon that can be improved on (I don't want to say, but GLOCKS
have a lot of options to make it better than stock
#5 if you looking for a conceal carry ensure that you can deploy the weapon
( I made a mistake buy buying a SIG 226 after carrying it I discovered
that it was to bulky to deploy when I am dressed casually. SO, I bot the
229.
#6 (someone talked about it before) do you research on AMMO

GO TO RANGE SHOOT EVERYONE's WEAPON and HAVE FUN!!!!!

went to the tactical range today in Katy, Tx today to meet some friends.

the place was packed with white folks as expected, as usual...with one other brother & his lady shooting Beretta 9mms.

I shot my modified glock 27 (40:9 mm) & my glock 35. today's lesson...don't fuck with Max if the 27 is close at hand; I'm still good with that mofo.

Consider it a warning lol.

Definitely go to a range and rent some guns to try first to see what you prefer to shoot.
No disrespect to the Glock guys, but I did not enjoy the way glocks felt in my hand at all. I immediately fell in love with the xd handguns, however. I have the 9mm sub compact
101_0748.jpg
[/IMG]. I highly recommend an XD, if 9mm is your thing. It is easy to aim, recoil is snappy but not punishing..and It is very concealable with the standard 13 round magazine... yet if you add an extension to the magazine like i do( as shown) and buy some good ammo ( doubletap ammo in 124 or 147 grain comes to mind..
101_0740-1.jpg
I like heavier rounds in 9mm than the standard 115 grain) you have 21 rounds of rock and roll at your fingertip. I can actually carry it concealed with that 21 round magazine. I have put thousands of rounds (and many different bullet brands and weights)through that gun without any issues. Even though i rarely carry it anymore, I would trust my life with it.

I also have an xd45 tactical (top gun in pic below, 5 inch barrel)which i also show with a mag extension and lasergrip sight which gives 17 rounds of potent 45acp. I dont go with the traditional 230 grain lead jacketed round , rather i use 160 grain 1200fps all copper rounds..makes the gun lighter to carry, especially since i have 17 rounds of it and I also have put melted lead into my once hollow guide rod to make it heavier to absorb recoil..much cheaper than buying a tungsten guide rod) remember mass helps to counter recoil...so the lighter the gun, the more comfortable it is to carry but the more it will kick when fired..a heavier gun will absorb more of the recoil reducing muzzle flip ( of course different calibers and bullet weights have different recoil characteristics as well)Make sure you try different calibers at the range also. I prefer the recoil of the .45 round to that of the 9mm and 40cal...it pushes more than snaps ( makes sense once you shoot both but your preference might vary)..and the length of the 5 inch barrel increases bullet velocity and makes it more accurate. I have put thousands of rounds through this gun as well and trust my life with it. I like the laser sight also for easier target acquisition especially in low light. I no longer carry the 9mm unless I really need the concealability..I prefer the .45 and the 5.7.

Oh btw I hated the .40cal round... the recoil is VERY snappy imho and my follow up shots were much slower than I liked...I wouldnt recommend it to a beginning shooter...I think it will take a casual beginning shooter longer to eradicate bad shooting habits like flinching in nervous anticipation of the snappy recoil)and jerking the trigger..but that is just my opinion...your mileage may vary!

101_0734.jpg

the gun i currently carry the most, is the FN5.7.
101_0742-1.jpg
[/IMG] the 5.7mm is a very controversial round, but if light and fast bullets are your thing, I recommend it. the gun is very light it feels like a toy...21 rounds , amazingly light recoil for lightning fast follow up shots, and prior to the ammo shortage I bought some specialty ammo for it( 2300fps, superior ability to defeat hard barriers and could completely penetrate IIIA kevlar vests , the bullet yaws and/or fragments so it reduces overpenetration of soft tissue).
With the availability of body armor to civilians, i do imagine scenarios where i might have to protect myself from an opponent or opponents wearing it. I also have 30 round magazines for the fn57 and enjoy knowing that I have the extra capacity to engage multiple opponents without needing to reload as quickly. I would recommend it as a good first hand gun if you can afford it and find enough ammo to become proficient with it. The flat shooting round and light recoil make this gun a pleasure to shoot and EVERY first time shooter I have taken to the range has loved it.
2011-09-06_04-09-27_746.jpg

Regardless of the weapon system, practice and make sure you put several dozen rounds of your carry ammo through it to make sure your gun will feed it reliably ( go bang every single time), DO NOT put your finger on the trigger unless you're preparing to shoot. Whenever you handle the gun keep your finger outside of the trigger guard...I cannot stress this enough. That is the first thing I look for when I watch someone handle a handgun..do they let their finger curl in unnecessarily on the trigger when they grab it...and do they have poor muzzle discipline ( let the gun swing across things they wouldnt want to shoot, like people). Also, Never assume a gun is loaded or unloaded...check and check again... if you religiously practice this, you will never be faced with the tragedy of an accidental discharge. When firing, keep your wrist strong...squeeze the trigger slowly and smoothly.. dont pull it or jerk it...as you gain proficiency you will be able to pull the trigger more quickly but it will still be smooth. The targets were shot with the xd.45 in a controlled rapid fire at 25 feet. INstead of worrying about caliber...worry about shot placement...I would take the weaker 9mm over the stronger 40 anyday, because FOR ME, I am faster and more accurate with the 9mm. that of course is personal preference..u need to spend the time to figure out what YOU prefer. Also remember that guns are like shoes...different choices for different occassions...and ur opinion on what u need/want to protect yourself with will evolve over time. I have guns that I once carried daily that never come out of the safe anymore except for some range time.

the only issues i have heard with Glocks are when them jackasses mod them out of control...other than that....they are the best

the guys that work at the tactical range told me that they get a lot of complaints about the glock pistols:

99% of the complaints are about how the gun looks.
1% are about the accuracy issues & thickness of the handle.

I've got big hands so I've never had any issues with the handle but my girl can't even hold a glock 27.

at 5, 10, & 15 yds...I don't gaf what brand of gun I'm shooting; I'm pretty accurate & precise. but I'm even more accurate with Beretta than my glock. I just prefer the glock pistols bc they can take a beating & they will fire. period.

true that is with most people when you talking at realistic engagements of weapon (1 to 3 meters), but when deployment of the weapon comes in question is a key factor why most people don't like glocks do to it trigger safety and the rough (crude upper slide action). Next time you at the range looks for a KIMBER (inexperience people hate 1911's but most experience civilians love them) or any sig/fn and pull back that slide ( you will notice how smooth the action is). XD are great weapons but again I compete. We buy only certain weapons and them get them worked on for better performance (slide, trigger, mag well, etc). Most people would never appreciate RACE GUN or nicely worked full size 1911's, the cost really gets up there (AVERAGE 2500 and above).

Thanks to the info about the Lone Wolf conversion, I got a Glock 27 at the show. Simple construction, haven't gone to the range yet but probably will tomorrow. Also gonna look into getting that conversion kit.

Go to a range first rent two at a time until you find the one that best fits your hand and the one you shoot the best with everything else goes out the window!!!

i've owned beretta 9mm and my friends shoot both sig & H/K. i agree, the action is smoother.

and honestly, i'm more accurate with the beretta than i am with my own glock 35. but my beretta let me down in a big way one day, and i've moved on.

i've never shot an XD, but i hear good things about them. my frat has an FFL, so my next purchase will probably be the sig sauer P226 9MM.

from what i understand, the glock 27 is the most accurate pistol made by glock. spending an extra $134 (with tax) to get the lone wolf 40:9 conversion barrel and you have 2 guns in one. all you have to do now is buy the OEM glock 26 9mm +2 magazines, and you're set.

btw, i got this one:

the ported, extended barrel is a big reminder to what i'm currently running thru the gun... just in-case i need to grab a magazine really quick.

i agree, KC... but the gun that feels best is the sig P-226 = $990 - 1100.

i can get two (2) glocks for that price, one in 9mm and one in 40 cal.

This is as much a reference for me as it is for you guys...

What does the extended barrel do, besides let you know what's in the slide?

Also... this might seem like a real newbie question but where is the safety? Are they talking about the slide lock thing?

And it was amazing that 2 out of 3 dealers at the show didn't even know about the Lone Wolf conversion. I bought from the one who did.

What does the extended barrel do, besides let you know what's in the slide? i just wanted the ported barrel for a little less recoil. i've found that it doesn't make that much of a difference. note: i was shooting my glock 27 at 25 yds. :D

Also... this might seem like a real newbie question but where is the safety? Are they talking about the slide lock thing? glock safeties are internal. the one safety you have external is on the trigger. i've been shooting glock pistols since 89; so get ready to learn a lot about muzzle flip, gun 'lightening' as the mag unloads, etc.

And it was amazing that 2 out of 3 dealers at the show didn't even know about the Lone Wolf conversion. I bought from the one who did.

they play dumb with the lone wolf conversion barrel... and will instead try to sell you a 9 mm model 26.

:lol::lol::lol:

cost of a model 27 + $134 (lone wolf 40:9 barrel) + 2 glock model 26 magazines (+2 capacity) $70 = 2 guns in one!!!

:yes::yes::yes:

use 115 grain 9 mm ammo to practice with your model 27. then, when you get used to it or want to conceal carry, swap out the barrel (and magazine) and load-up your 40 cal.

if at ANY time you don't like this set-up, hit me up on PM... i'll buy it all from you. model 27 + lone wolf + model 26 mags.

:D:yes::)

I understand that the price is high MAX DOG but we are talking about a tool that could possibly save your life which is "priceless" but either choice will serve you well I have a glock 19 and a glock 34

understood.

glock reliability, ruggedness, etc., is why i chose it for my home & personal protection.

when/if i buy the sig P-226, it will be used for competition... along with my model 35.

idk how you feel about that model 19, but it's my smoothest pistol... perfect fit, no big time recoil, etc.

have you replaced your guide rod(s) yet? i wore-out my OEM (plastic) rods and went back with the tungsten version.

332631_01_tungsten_guide_rod_w_spring_fo_640.jpg

also, if you prefer a lighter trigger pull, converting the glock from 5# to 3# trigger pull took me about 15 min per gun.

However my research shows that there isn't really a mod like this for the 26 or 27's, leading me to believe that it's not a worthy upgrade or not necessary?

there's an upgrade on lone wolf. but they are usually back-ordered.

go to Amazon & check the site: "I love my glock." they usually have the guide rods/springs available.
