I want a 9mm... any tips?

Glock 19 - Best 9mm handgun around

:yes::yes::yes:

i've been shooting glock pistols since 1989/90. to put these guns in terms you cats can understand, glock pistols are the "iPhone" of the gun world.

once glock introduced their style of weapon, materials, simplicity, and functionality, EVERY other gun maker has been trying to copy & duplicate their design. many have gotten close but none still do it like glock.

i shoot competition, and my main competition is the terrebonne and lafourche parish sheriff's departments. about 95% of us at the range shoot glock.

the city cops shoot glock.
most military units around the world shoot glock.

do NOT listen to bgol niccas and buy a pretty gun with fancy features... because when it gets hot, you want a simple, reliable, dependable gun that discharges. that's what glocks do...cause real-life shoot-outs are NOT like the movies.

Interesting fact if you want 2 guns in one and have the glock 27 for the price of a 9mm barrel and mags you can pretty quickly and simply convert the glock 27 (.40 cal) into a 9mm. This allows you to save $$$ at the range shooting the cheaper ammo and still having the 'stopping power' of a .40 cal:yes:

:eek::eek: i currently own 6 glock pistols, and i own the model 27. I DID NOT KNOW THIS!!! holy shit.:eek::eek:

why ya'll like glocks???? is it the price???
I just hate the way the upper grinds against the lower and the lack of balance.

SIGs are smooth and very solid hand guns (and HKs), the upper is like oiled butter when is charged

to each his own...every person is going to have their own preference.

but when i bought my first pistol in 89, i went to a range and shot beretta's, glocks, sigs, and HK's.

of these weapons, the sig felt best in my hand, followed by the HK. but i was most accurate with the beretta... and worst with the glock.

but when i asked the range owner about his thoughts, he said of all the pistols, the glock had the most rounds fired thru it with NO REPAIRS while the others spent time being repaired for various reasons.

he then told me to realize that the glock gets A LOT lighter as it unloads so you have to adjust, i.e., you have to get used to the sights and 'lightening' of the gun as you discharge.

so i bought the glock.

and then, i started shooting competition and STILL kicking ass with my beretta 92. then, one day, on round 64, the ENTIRE trigger mechanism on my beretta exploded in my hand. i sent the gun to beretta and they replaced it.

again, to each his own, but not only have my glocks not given me any trouble, but i've changed out my own trigger pulls to 3#.

i don't understand the 'upper grind' you're speaking on... and the balance issue is resolved thru practice.

my current competition pistol; the glock model 35:

lol on that note I seen 2 glocks barrel complete failures, but there were hand loaded rounds. My Sigs are very dependable. I have a pretty good collection of toys (weapons) and I know I am an elitist, but nothing fits in the hand for CC than a HK or SIG

Just want to lend my support for this also. I'm getting my permit soon and I will be looking for my first gun.

Just found SOME info for GA and getting a permit. In Fulton County it's a three-step process:

http://fultoncountyga.gov/fcprobate-gun-permits

First you submit the application and pay the fee. Then you take the app to the police station to get fingerprinted. Then about 60 days later they tell you the license is ready and you go pick it up in person.

BUT this is only for conceal and carry. Apparently you don't need anything JUST to carry one, but if it's in your car (laws vary by state), you can have it in a glove box or locking center console, or just on the passenger seat, but not under the seat.

It's the same process statewide in Georgia. Doesnt take long at all :yes::yes:

I dont see anybody twisting ya arm dragging you to the shop forcing you to buy a Glock man. You shoot what you like and lets us do the same

Honestly not worth the price unless you can find one around $1,000-1,100. I think more from a carrier's pov and the recoil on that gun makes it impractical. It's more of a trophy case type gun.

Da lowest one I saw online was around 9ish & another for like a grand or so. Checkin' out some of da reviews & YT vids, everyone was sayin' da recoil ain't that bad. :dunno:

Just picked up a Gen 4 19 on Friday, picking up a Gen 3 21 in 2 weeks.

lol I have a PS90 SBr where you find the ammo I been buying mine off of GUNBROKERS.COM

Check out Sportsman Warehouse and Academy Sports. Academy near me has a couple of cases of AE 5.7 ($26.50) per box sitting on the shelf last week. Sportsman warehouse has it at customer service (Limit 2 $28.00 per box). Hit me up if you still want to sell that SBR. I'm waiting on a tax stamp, but I got a co-worker looking for one.

I disagree with a few of your statements. And I'm just speaking from experience and knowledge...

If anything the "iphone of the pistol world" would be the Browning 1911. That shit was light years ahead of its time. And is the basis for most modern pistols. And as far as military, in my travels. Many of the foreign military personnel I've seen were carrying Beretta, Sig, or 1911's. Not to say that Glocks aren't in use at all. But from what I've seen, its been mostly those three. Thats Japan, Bahrain, Canada, Italy, Austrailia, England. Iraq's military is really the only country I've seen that uses Glock as their standard. I was Navy, and our standard sidearms were Beretta M9(92fs) and Sig M11(P228). But thats not just the Navy, thats the US military period. If there were a super power that uses Glock as their standard sidearm for the military it be more credible. But there isn't. Or at least i can't think of any. I think commercially and police wise, Glock is a juggernaut. But I think most of its commercial success comes from its low cost and usage with police departments. People see cops with them so they assume its a good gun. Not to say that they aren't. Cause they are nice firearms, but they're certainly not the best. Well maybe the best for its "price range"...

I'll put it in comparison for you, police departments also use Ford and Chevy...

Just saying...

And I own two Glocks.

UK Ministry of Defense adopts Glock as the standard sidearm.

do we still consider the UK a Superpower?:dunno:

MoD and British Armed Forces aren't the same though.

The way i understand MoD to be, its like the Federal government's homeland security. This British dude i was cool with in Bahrain was trying to explain their government to me awhile back.

EDIT: Good drop, all news to me. This happened recently though. Out in Bahrain i got to fire their Browning. That shit was lovely, and all those Brits swore by them. So I guess its getting a lil military credibility. But its still not the best on the market. Don't get me wrong though. Its a nice firearm, and its probably the best at its "price range"...

I was just looking at it. Dude was telling me all this shit about his government while i was drunk. So some of it soaked in the rest of it got pissed down the toilet with the vodka.
:lol::lol:

But i don't see why they changed though. That Browning handled lovely. It was a big gun though. I was reading some of the replies from your link. May have been replaced due to gender norming.

and I agree with it not being the best on the market.....

it's sort of like a Corvette ZR1 amongst a bunch of supercars............it performs on par with most of them, even better than some....at a fraction of the price

I'm a Glock guy, and I was having a discussion with a friend who happens to be an HK snob....he said.."The Glock is a killing machine, it has no soul....you can pull it out of the box, run 10,000 rounds through it with no break-in and get zero malfunctions.........where the fuck is the fun in that??" :D:D:D:D:D

that said, I'd love to own an HK SOCOM Mark 23 !!

THANKS, I also have a a 16s SCAR, SOCOM II .308, Mossberg 930spx, m11, kriss vector, FN SPR, G21, and a SIG 229 might be getting rid of (I have enough in the desert, lol) oh yes a 91/30, sks, megamachine monolithic upper, and a 12 inch Noveske barrel (yes a Noveske) not including the optics.
Thinking about moving that is why

lol I agree 1000% with that I love the smooth action, great follow up shots, and a very solid feel of a SIG or an HK

http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/military/weapons/why-the-glock-became-americas-handgun

this gun has made EVERY major gun producer "copy cat" their design.

everyone has their preferences, but what you need to do is go to a range, get a gun that feels good to you and then ask the range owner one, simple question:

which gun here is most reliable? i'm betting they'll say, "glock" hands down.

i've had a beretta break down on me after 64 rounds. but i'm most accurate with a beretta and still own my beretta.

i don't like sigs bc according to my cop friends, they STAY broke. HK's are just too pricey.

don't expect to be very accurate with a glock when you first start shooting; you need to get used to the gun.

test drive them vs other guns. i LOVE the feel of sig in my hand, and HK feels good too. but i'll take a slightly less comfy feel for a gun that just works.

in the engineering world, there's a saying... "the more parts, the more chance for failure... keep it simple." i think the glock pistols have only 33 parts to the gun-that's it. most guns have half that... just for the trigger mechanism.

BTW, you brothers in this thread are on the right path for dealing with the Trayvon Martin aftermath.

black people...

let's make gun purchases skyrocket
let's take our whole families to the gun range, weekly-right after church service
let's make conceal carry permits for black people soar thru the roof.

the state of florida, upon seeing all the applications for conceal carry permits by minorities will surely change/alter these laws.

bc for some strange reason, they think ONLY white folks are going to carry. fuck dat.

For your first handgun I always say go 9mm or .40.
9mm if you're scary around firearms. Good learning caliber...
.40 if you actually want kill your "attacker" while saving some ammo.;)

Looks like you have your bases covered :D

Love the machete!!!

Maxx dropping some knowledge on yall...dont sleep

Many people think they can just go buy a gun and go to the range and in the same day become expert shooters. .....wrong

Like he said take your time try diff guns

Everyone copied Glock...I dont see why its so hard for people to admit that...

And I was lying my ass off about not buying another Glock....

:D

the most enjoyable time at the range is shooting everyone's else weapons, that is how I realized what I liked. Btw the first weapon I had (non hunting) was a SIG SAUR 226, but then found out it was to big to deploy when needed. That is how I acquired the 229. I would love to see more people to compete, not only in 2 or 3 gun but in mid distance too

I noticed that most replies were about going to the RANGE. PLEASE go to the range and show the so call public that BLACKS do have a gun culture. An all black CQB at regional would be a great sight to see.

I started shooting way back in 89/90 and most times, I was the only brother at the range practicing and in competition.

YOU HAVE TO GET COMFORTABLE & CONFIDENT with your gun...I can't stress that enough!

and whatever you do, stop watching movies with people holding guns at funny/weird, palm down angles. and stop looking for "pretty" guns...fuck dat.

learn how to hold your gun properly, position your feet properly, aim/shoot properly, & field clean the weapon...just in-case you have an issue & need to break it down real quick.

that's a big advantage of glock...easy break down.

lol so funny you say that I took some of my SOLDIERS to the range for an outing and we did all the so-cal "LA CRIPS" tv style of shooting

on the glock note you need to change that upper receiver "lock" to a larger size to take "field strip it" I have hell taking down my G21 (the only reason I have it is to match with my KRISS for SHFT events)
