I love 70s music but with the artists and examples you posted, in addition to the explosion of Hip Hop music, I have to give the 1980s the edge.

I know Hip Hop got its start in the late 70s but the 1980s is when it exploded. Also include New Wave music as well as early 80s punk, the variety of music in the 80s was damn near unmatched.

Anything that came after was built on what was done in the 80s.
