I don't think I'll ever get a job...

Doesn't make sense to stay in the same location if you cant find work.

Plus, you have to be competing with a bunch of immigrants down there so the competition is probably tight as fuck.

I went to Orlando a couple years back and was surprised at all the Hispanics (havent been down there in decades).

You have to move, bruh.

gatdamn, im in the same boat as you right now.

had a help desk job call me this morning, i called back an hour later, job cancelled.

15 years in electronics, calibration, and metrology
10 years of logistics
5 years of IT

close 80 applications, only a few even LOOKED at the application

i about to get on Indeed and Linkedin tonight to scan for URGENTLY HIRING positions since thats who hit me up this morning

im in ATL
i found a help desk position in STL right before the pandemic hit doing PC refresh. cant find those jobs anywhere now
Bro if you have this experience you can easily be making 80k a year. Diversify your skills and PLC programming/Scada background and you should be set

Applying for any government work right now is probably a bad idea.

Not if it's local or state government work. I would start looking in my locality first. A lot of the local government jobs aren't on the indeeds.

You have to go to the webiste of the municipality you are considering working for. People don't realize that there are jobs in their towns that are needed from parks, schools, public works, public utilities, zoning, inspections even up to finance and administration. Most of these state or local municipality jobs you don't need a degree. And most of them don't have a lot of competition because for most state jobs they aren't recruiting nationally they are looking for local people to hire. Also because they are local you might know someone who would make the process a lot easier.

Obviously the smaller the town you are in the easier it is but the less money they will be paying. But once you have experience in a certain type of government work it's very specialized. I know people who are the town clerk for multiple towns.

It seems it's never gonna happen, think I'm too old and the old jobs are too bad.. HR person probably looks at me like

"What took you so long?"

I think I never to probably just go to a rural state and call it a day, i don't think I'll ever see a decent job here at all.

Think it's a wrap for me to be honest unless I find a way out of here.

Any homeless shelters? anyone renting a room?

I don't see it and I'm deep in depression and sadness, I don't know how much longer I can hold out before my heart just stop beating.

Degree did shit, CCNA did shit, A+ can't even get helpdesk... nothing works at all, maybe South Florida is too fucking crowded.. maybe like some snowy ass cac city will open a door.

Resume got shit like Mail Clerk and shit like that so I can see how the HR person sees it.

Going to be my last post for a while until something gives, either I get a job or just drop dead and no one knows.

Absolutely no one calls back, I applied for at least 250 jobs and NOTHING not one fucking offer.
small town IT depts are hiring.

My advice....... find a medium to large city and look at the surrounding suburbs and send every one of them a resume.

skip the Big companies because all they are doing is poaching talent from other big companies. shit goes round and round.

just about every time i go to a tech conference i learn about job opportunities just from networking.

you might have to relocate. But from the people I've talked to and judging from my linked-in account those small town shops are growing

some are even starting from scratch.

where to live in a shelter? I can go to snellville tomorrow and that's about 1 hour north of atlanta.

I can stay for a few days then come back over the weekend.

what city you recommend?

Either this guy has the worst luck ever, can’t make a good resume to save his life, or just trolling… I would want to give him the benefit of a doubt but it looks closer to number 3
I think it's just the jobs from back in the day, the security guard and mail clerk shit and then trying to flip the script older and get the degree which i did is what's killing it, they commend me for finishing at my age but they see not need to hire me at my age at that lower experience level,

not to mention I'm wesley snipes black and not in the best shape.

I’m going to be honest with you. 80% percent don’t care and 20% percent glad it's you. — Les Brown

Your complexion and shape pretty much dosent matter for certain jobs.. what matters can you make them money and are you a necessity for their biz… it’s a biz not a charity.. it’s always why do they need you

I'm moving soon, I'll log off for a while... all good I don't take shit personal.

bum ass nigga
Keep it 100 with you, I would kill you in a minute if we met in person, dudes like you don't know mental issues at all, sit behind the computer and talk ya shit bro... god bless cuz you talk that shit at the wrong time face to face you dead 100.

And I don't promote violence but too easy to talk greasy online to strangers.

Hospitals are always hiring with benefits. I worked front desk it's weird cause the stigma is it's a female job but if you are good it's easy. And you dont have to take any work home with you. Plus the fine ass nurses and patients flirting with you make it easy.

A restaurant as a cook, may work with criminals but it's a job. Also hotels are always hiring.

Schools are always hiring janitors, para educators and bus drivers.

Folks have to understand that we are living and entering a completely new labor market in this country.

The labor market our parents and grandparents had is history.

College Degrees have become worthless unless you become a doctor or lawyer. Too many people have them which makes them worthless.

IT was a big trend to get into in the early 2000’s, but because of AI, that profession is dead like a TV repair man (that used to be a good paying gig before 2000).

They are screaming about migrants and immigrants, but behind closed doors, these corporations want them badly cuz they work cheap and they can treat them like trash. That’s what you are competing against today.

You gotta go into Full Hustle Man mode in this current labor market.

There is money out there in them streets, you just have to have the motivation to go out there and get it.

I.T. is not dead at all, it's just competitive as fuck. Because there was a lot of tech layoffs, there's a lot of overqualified people in the field, competing for the same roles as people trying to get their feet wet. To my understanding, the industry has always had highs and lows like this, even prior to 2008. The hiring picked up again in 2011 and just got competitive again in the last year or so.

If you haven't already, check with a recruiter or staffing agency as they have jobs and are actively looking for skilled folk to fill them.

I worked for a company called Aerotek for a year or two many years ago recruiting engineers. They had all types of jobs in varying fields including IT. Look into them.

Wish I could help on this. I have had at least 40 different jobs including 3 years military. Now my goal in life has nothing to do with a regular job anymore. Right now you got to get out of your situation before it gets worst. What ever you are used to doing is easier for you to do and becomes habit. All I can say is improve your health thru it all. I am working to be able to stand up to this system we was born in before it is to late.

I called aerotek but here it's just manufacting and warehouse and they told me they have no openings.

I'm clueless and honestly I think I'm done, I'm not getting that office job at my age so I think moving is the best idea and if I end up being a security guard so be it but my resume and Florida won't work, no connections, no family so this is pointless.

Here I can't even reach Robert Half or Teksystems, Ive sent abour 20 resumes in the past year and nothing. I kinda give up, I'm too old and my job history is kiddie for a man my age, moving and hitting the street is the best bet to be honest I don't see shit changing here.

Question I would have is why have you never held down a security guard job? I know you said you’ve done security b4 but why did you end up losing the job? I know some dudes that have had the same security guard jobs for 2-3 or more decades.. I know you want better but at least you could’ve made consistent money until a better career came along

I was fucked up for decades mentally and depressed, I hate security but I never advanced in it unfortunately so if I go back now in Florida unarmed is like 15 a hour, it was 13 a hour 15 years ago to start. Security is a field no one respects so it's a stigma on security guards but yeah I didn't advance in it cuz I had my IT dream but I should have gotten in that and try to move up D license, G license to PI license and so forth, I know a guy that owns a company in Deerfield Beach he's small and doesn't have much openings.

Security is a weird field because usually the insurance is garbage and the pay is trash and the hours they tend to call you on your day off to come in smh, people quit like crazy just straight up don't come back, I've seen women just throw their uniforms on the floor and bounce, most don't respect it so it's pressure on the company to hire people who they think will actually stay.

I actually called a few jobs I used to work at and they don't return my calls, not to mention this is Florida so they all know each other, they all know who quit so when you go somewhere else you'll find it hard to find a job.

But Im older so they straight laugh at a old nigga doing this shit, so I always hated it with a passion.

I was a mail clerk for a school here for 7 years, I started at 36 and left at 43.

So honestly with my past I'm pretty fucked up, trying to get 50k a year out a nigga now with that history is gonna be like dude you ain't built like that.

So It's best in a sense, but I think it's just hitting the street at this point, the online shit no popping like that especially with a bad work history.

Shit a lot of older people have security jobs in nyc.. like I said it’s a guaranteed check.. idk how it is in florida but depending on where you work you could actually make real good money in security or a consistent check in other places.. some hotel security making 30-40 or more an hour not including overtime or night differential. Place like Madison square garden they making like $27 an hr, other places like 16 or higher.. idk how florida do but it’s a lil diff up here

I know I'm a member of the security guard reddit, dudes making 30 watching a defense contractor in New Mexico just sitting in a car all night, it's some great security jobs out there if you can move they hire you.

I'm seeing what I can do and If I get the right opportunity I'll call it a day and do it.

I am retired, there is no way I would ever go back to the United States job market. I got some side ideas that I've put on hold that I would like to monetize.

Stay away from backbreaking work, such as an autoworker. I got busted up doing some job by a crybaby racist, I am trying to recover before traveling.

Man if you aren’t in major debt and don’t have a criminal history and can get a passport and twic and pass a medical examination I got a job for you. Plus if you have IT history you can get in Radio/communicatons department. Plus you get to travel to a bunch of countries.
