I became a father at 25 years old. I wasn't planning to be a father to be truthful.
I was going to hit then leave but I didn't wear a condom. long story short I got married at 26 years old and been unhappily married for over 20 years.

ok this may sound like a stupid question so don't laugh. one thing i notice is that when dudes get older that they lose a little bit of their willingness/ability to appear affectionate to children. i saw that with my dad at least. usually if there is a little kid in the house (say a visitor's child), everyone is real gentle/playful/affectionate etc. but sometimes i notice that the older cats sometimes seem even repulsed. now i dont know if that's just a symptom of the whole "everyone gets crankier with age" thing, but it's something ive seen. so to OP, if you find yourself acting that way just know that you will have to go out of your boundaries as far as acting in that way since children demand (and even deserve) it.

anyone else know what im talking about tho? like my dad, we could be in a room full of little kids and whereas the other people are like "awww s/he is cute," my dad is like "get away from me, u booger eating shitty pants, now knowing where ur hands been all day azz nigga!" (ok not in those words but u get my drift)

I understand what you are saying here but i also think there is a differnce between WANTING to have a child than "Oops, she is pregnant. I guess we will just have to keep it".

Why are you still married if you are not happy for the past twenty years? Just curious that s all. i know we have our own burdens to bear but 20 yrs? that is a lot !!!!

I hope you're right... I was in a pretty intense relationship a few years ago but we decided to end it because our differences were too large to overcome. I am actually very worried as one of my biggest fears is not having a family as my job keeps me very busy and I really do not meet alot of suitable women. I am thinking of pursuing a PhD but following that path (at least 4 years of study) would probably make settling down in the near future even more difficult.

In two to three weeks my woman whom I have known for almost ten years (Married for almost three) will bring our child into this world. I am almost forty year old (Will be in august) and just having my first child. I wanted to wait and make sure that all the conditions were right. You know, things like secure jobs for wife and I, some money saved up in banks, my education ( I have two masters degree and the wife is working on hers).
The point I am just trying to make here is did you get a chance to set your priorities straight before you had your child(ren)?
Did having a child at a younger age turned you into a hussler to make ends meet? Or you took your time? We always learn from each other on this board and that is what I like about coming here. I have heard enough baby mama and baby daddy stories to make sure i made the right choice. Did you do the same?

Had my first at 39, second at 40, wish it was earlier so that I could do more with them while still "young" myself.

Having a child young is not a mistake, it was and still is way of the world since creation, we just have our priorities messed up in this modern "civilized" world.

To any man that WANTS children for children's SAKE, he going to presevere and be alright in most cases, I know too many men who have kids in that "proper" stage of life yet no TIME for their child in the child's PROPER stages of growing. No easy task young or old.

I became father to my 1-year old step-daughter when I was 20. My biological children were born when I was 22 and 23, so now I have a 16, 14, & 12-year old.

18, then again at 20. both almost died, oldest had her cord around her neck, second had cpr done on her cause she came out with no heart beat due to the pain drugs. main reason i don't like her mom. her selfishness almost killed my daughter.
