I am doing some research and want some feedback from the fam. What would you consider poor as far as yearly income?
I know each region is different so tell me your opinion based on where you live currently. I would consider 15k for a single man with no kids poor where I live.

Really depends where you live. I hear in Texas if you make 50k you can live pretty large... In NYC you will be poor as shit.

Depends on how much debt you carry.
A man making 25k with zero debt saving 25% of his money.

25-30k in nyc

Shit i thought rent for fucked up cribs was 2k a month up there.

Yeah down south property is lovely but I think the pay rate is much lower also, so it balances its self out,

Under 13,600 in Philadelphia for a single person. Add 4,100 per dependent.
Damn Philly is a shit hole lol

under 20k, unless you are lucky to find a apartment for around $500 that isn't in the hood and you are debt free and frugal

13,600 is someone's rent money for the year. Poverty in Phila is more like 35,000. That's when a person is just getting by paying for food, rent, utilities, wants, transportation, and taxes.

My rent is $10k a year. Im almost sick of it.

Well out here minimum wage is $7.50 I think so let's just say you getting $250 a week after taxes

There are areas you can live that's not the best neighborhoods but nobody will bother you where one bedrooms are like $400 a month

So I mean it's POSSIBLE cuz one of my friends I hadn't heard from in a while until recently was doing it but man that shit is a tight squeeze.

Gotta be

I gotta say 15k is right at the poverty line

Tough call, as we have to factor in a number of factors really.

- Single / married?
- Gross / net income
- Which state or province?
- Income tax rate
- Car note?
- Dependent(s)?
- Outstanding debt(s) - credit card / school loan / fam' or friends?
- Rent / mortgage payment - how much?
- Monthly food / entertainment / medical costs, etc?

There can be quite a bit of leeway for those who may not be bringing in much income, but who have their shit all squared up. I.E. - no outstanding debt(s) / live a modest lifestyle / food & entertainment costs aren't high / rent or mortgage is modest, or they still live at home (or share with a number of roommates) / no kid(s) / gf / wifey, etc.

400 for rent aint bad, i am sure thats in a fucked up hood.
15k aint bad if your rent for fhe year is 5k though.

Damn! $7.50 an hour. My wife used to live in Houston and she was a Pharm tech making $8.00 an hour.

When it comes to New York you dudes have to stop thinking Manhattan is the only place to live. You have Brooklyn the Bronx Queens even sStaten Island live.

yup..its not how much you make..its how much you save..

If you only make enough to cover basic expenses but can't save much, then the amount you make does matter.

And nobody making $30,000 a year should be living in Manhattan. That's what the outer boroughs are for.

That's about 900 a month, that's not bad here in south Florida the lowest you can find a decent spot for us about 700 a month.

As for the op, is say 25k a year in south Florida means you're pretty poor. Rent is high and gas is over 4 bucks, Texas I'm say 20k is poor.

In your research take the numbers you get and use a relocation calculator to see how it compares across cities/states etc.

Good luck!

Naw you live alright off of 25 k you won't be balling ,but you will be aight if you live the right way

rent 700

cable 60

light 60-70

food 250-300

adding a car payment if you don't have a used car makes it that much harder

700 naw, the more West you go in South Florida the nicer the neighborhoods get and there is no way unless lucky you are getting even a 1 bedroom for that price. 700 wont land you in the hood or some high crime area but not somewhere I would want to live.

any one from south fla.. knows nice areas aren't limited to just east or west

Palm beach island is on the east side of west palm beach... and we all know it doesn't get much "nicer"
