How Much Money You Need to Live Comfortably in the 50 Biggest Cities

bullshit.....having a family increases overall spending on everything from groceries to water bills, electric gas for heat.

if you have teenagers that are active then you spend more for gas ..

there isn't anything that stays stagnant being single or with family

That's what I always argue. SOME AMERICANS reproduce themselves into poverty, but some cats think not engaging in family planning is winning. People also don't count TIME, which is money. Also, college funds or trusts. Just damn.

It's no coincidence that poor people have more kids and at a younger age. Kids are expensive.

THIS is what happens when you own nothing and depend on others for just about everything.
Yo breh..blacks sold their apartments and property and now it's a wrap..pissed me the hell off..black people gotta learn not to sell their property for a few dollars..now we ain't got shit and they shipping us out and don't give a fuck where we end up at..they building a substation on Crenshaw..when they put the rams in Inglewood it'll probably be a wrap..the price is rising and we can't afford those high prices. This is my home but shit is changing fast..that's why I was interested in H town...

Sounds like you're describing Washington D.C. Damn near everything near a metro station is a high rise building that didn't exist 5/10/15 years ago. Even damn U street I'm like "Where the fuck all these white folks come from?". Even parts of S.E. you got hoods beside new townhouse they'll never be able to afford.
My area use to be the hood..actually it looks pretty damn good compared to hoods across the nation but now they taking the hood a bringing in restaurants and business and it ain't for us imo..places that use to be dangerous back in the day are now being filled with white people..that shit is crazy breh...

two income households are better off and heres why. if two parents are pulling in 100k, it doesnt take 100k to take care of one kid for year. so anything extra is extra income. rent/mortgage cut in half. bills cut in half. home cooked meals as oppose to going out and impressing, buying drinks, new clothes, etc. all that replaced with a netflix account. People forget the grind single ppl do to maintain a lifestyle. (some are thrifty though) Coupled up forces you to budget better and not spending on the shiny things. Two people making six figures anywhere in the country will not be missing meals or not have shelter or their kid not taken care of. Whats comfortable? Very subjective.

A single black man in Houston with a decent job and his own place will live like a king. I've met a few folks from out in LA who moved to Houston and they all like iy except for the summer weather .
Yeah my home girl told me that too..I hear LA people love it..and I feel the same way about that heat and humidity..we use to the breeze...

Really depends on how u spend and budget.
Try to live beyond your means and u will be fucked.
You'd be surprised how much u can save by using public transportation.
That's why I can't wait til my son graduates next month.
I won't have to drive him across town to take him to school every morning no more.
And I can start back riding the bus to work. That's gonna save me $400 a month in gas alone.
My family is in the West..kinda of a big deal..I hear the women treat a brotha right out there..hoes out here be BS'n..I can budget.. I might have to really consider this before it gets too late!!.

Cacs riding their bikes through the lower bottoms is disturbing. Them opening that sprouts on Broadway tells you all you need to know. Next up tear down the Acorn projects and build a whole foods. East Oakland on the other hand is far too big and hood for them hoe ass cacs.

North Oakland has that hood on the Berkeley border but all that is about to turn to "Rockridge"

Rock ridge. Dayum!

My boy lives in NY. He makes like 75 working in the subway. Nigga always broke. Not sure why he still lives there.

you can live comfortably in Atlanta with less than $60k a year.
same wit Dallas.
U ain't involved in any type of investments making only 60k or less per..other than 401k..for me living comfortably involves saving, investing, and spending..i just don't see how that's possible if one isn't making at least 100k per person..grocery bill alone,if one is eating right, will be high; especially if you have kids..

Wow wasn't expecting Raleigh to be higher than Charlotte. I knew the city was growing but this is definitely surprising

The cost of living in Houston and Dallas is very low bro. You can buy a house starting at 75k in Houston in certain areas.

I understand that completely; 60k is only 5k a month before taxes; throw in driving a nice car, add eat a healthy lifestyle, plus mortgage; shit where is money left for investing? Yes your living but is that comfortably; not for me; I didnt even mention going out; having a girl; having kids; helping others etc etc etc....

I've seen this post on couple other sites now and bgol is the only site people complaining that 100k isn't enough to live off. We have a lot of ballers on here.
You must be really poor. 100k after taxes ain't shit when you're paying 4000 for a 1 bedroom apartment and other bills. That is why 100k ain't shit in the Bay Area. Has nothing to do with balling at all.

"Certain areas" is the operative phrase...with all the transplants and foreign money, cost of living has skyrocketed in Dallas & Houston area (housing particularly) from how it used to be years back.

I know I failed at life because I don't make 100 nor does my wife, but we have 2 kids, and just by the grace of God we make it. I love getting food stamps and welfare.

Oh it's most definitely skyrocketed but I'm still seeing deals on housing come across my desk all the time. I'm currently looking for rental property and I've seen some promising spots even with the price shooting up.

Man, come on. $60k is a lot of money for one person to make and still set a good future for themselves, especially in a place like Atlanta. With that kind of income, you can safely invest in low priced real estate and then grow it, if you have any kind of sense. Further, if you have a spouse who makes close to that and you guys use contraception and don;t have more kids than you can afford, then you're good for life.

I know quite a few friends that moved from Detroit down to AZ and Navada and, with a job in the same field, are living lovely. Nice big house with a garage, Charger sitting in it, no grass on the front lawn but sheeit, the grass on their front lawn in the D wasn't baseball field quality either lol

And P.S., What are you niggs doing to bring in 100K AFTER taxes??? Must got a lot of college grads up in here. Where I'm from, you're lucky to graduate high school. A lot of my homies got trade jobs and support a family, But damn, one person bringing in $100K after taxes? That is truly a blessing

60k is about 45k after taxes. Now depending on where you live...you can chop off another 18k to 24k for rent and/or mortgage and now you are at somewhere around 21k (excluding other expenses).
Now it comes down how you spend your money and/or what you define as living comfortably.

I don't pay $20k a year in Mortgage in Atlanta. Why would someone making 60K pay that much.

21k per year after mortgage...a decent car is like 500 per month...so that leaves 15k..which is like 1250 a month not including utilities and food...so that leaves like between 500-800 a month...that's not comfortable for me...and there's other expenses as well that wasn't mentioned:hmm:

I live in atlanta and any area that's considered a good area rent or mortgage is gonna be around 1000-2000 per month depending on property
I live in a house that I bought for $265k 13 years ago. I just refinanced it and I only pay $1600 for 15 years. I live in a nice Black subdivision in South Atlanta.

When I made $60k, I lived in a $850/mo house in Douglasville and i drove a $350/mo BMW. Life is all about common sense.

I live substantially beneath my means now.

I did say depending on where you live and the cities mentioned certainly will run you that amount and more.

its called post graduate studies..most individuals making that much have a doctorate best believe they have six figure school loans also..so 6 figures is the minimum(wifey is an attorney making 6 figures with 6 figure school loans)

You'd be surprised at how many single black women make this kind of money.

Wow wasn't expecting Raleigh to be higher than Charlotte. I knew the city was growing but this is definitely surprising

It's the Research Triangle Park and the tech companies associated with it that boost the Raleigh cost of living over Charlotte. Charlotte backbone is banking but they not Wall-Street with high ass bonus salary payouts like you have with Goldman Sachs, etc.
