From the above and considering the risk element inherent in a first project, I would recommend that you use Indigogo.
With Indiegogo, if you fall short on goal you would still be able to keep the contributions and you would have lessons learnt for the next project.
The downside is that you would not be able to utilize the larger audience of Kickstarter.
The larger audience would mean a larger discovery pool of contributors.
However both platform require work to engage an audience larger than existing family and friends of the project.
