How is Mayweather gonna retire before....

Another fight I would like to see before he calls it quits. I hate to see a great fighter leave in his prime when there are still good matches for him

I agree. Also a rematch with Judah. Too many boxers duck the competition to keep there record looking tight.

You could have made your point better if you didnt just start throwing names out there.... if you would have dropped some names that made since then you would have had a more valid point.

Its true that junior middle and welter have some amazing talent right now and there are some potentially good matchups, but a lot of the cats you named that floyd didnt fight like Morales were not fighting at lightweight when floyd was at lightweight like juan diaz who is relatively new, morales and barrera who fought most of their careers at featherweight. Floyd didnt move up to welter till Koysta Tszyzu was gone. etc etc. Most of the fights that you are talking about wont be made anytime soon or at all because they would require unrealistic jumps to different weight classes.

Yeah I know..I got a little overzealous with that...

But the Mosley fight should happen.

Although I think Judah is not a great fighter..he is good when he wants to be, but he was actually landing some punches early in the fight. However, Mayweather put on a clinic later in that fight on Judah.. Judah looked confused and completely overmatched later in that fight....almost embarrassingly...

My other issue is this..with all the direspecting of Sugar Ray Leonard by Floyd Mayweather..

I need to see 2 or 3 might fights to rank him at or above..

Leonard, Robinson, etc on the all-time greats list.

If he leaves now, it leaves that in question. Although he will have the great undefeated record, he won't have the resume of those fighters.

No he won't, but I'm not going to knock Floyd for that...This was probably the only fight in his career when he actually had to prove himself. Robinson and Leonard had multiple chances. And I agree the resume won't look as good, but even if he did fight the likes of Hatton at 140/147, Cotto at 140, and Mosley, then would it make him equal? Hard to tell.

alexw said:
Stick to mma bro

Floyd clearly won that fight....hell I think he dominated

besides that, Floyd would destroy Cotto.

The only challenging fight would be against Mosley. That would be worth $50

Dominated? What fight were you watching? Where was the "massacre" he promised? This was Mayweather's biggest test since Zab Judah and he did not dminate. Hell, if Oscar didn't press him there would have been no fight.

If ya'll actually believe he's retiring so be it, but I think we all know he's full of shit. Cotto is the only fight he has that will be of interest.

Probably not..especially with the likes of Robinson.

I can't knock him for not being in an era with other great fighters that could test him.

However, I still feel that although DLH was a more difficult fight than he is used too...it was a fight that by all means of the imagination, Floyd should have won anyway. I think that Mosley would be a much better fight for Floyd.especially find Mosley would probably be the quickest boxer than Floyd has ever faced and I would like to see him matched up with a boxer than can possibly neutralize his speed but that can also hit harder than him.

Basically, I just want to see him tested to see how great he really is... I think that DLH is well past his peek and just not a great test for Mayweather...

I'M STILL BAD said:
On espn news floyd kinda retracted his retirement statement. He said if the fans want a rematch he'll do it.

I actually don't want to see a rematch though. Although this was a closer fight than anyone expected, Mayweather won cleanly. The problem is that the only way that DLH will win is if he can land the power punch..his left hook.. and I don't think he can land that on Mayweather..he is too fast for DLH to cleanly land it and his "roll" is too effective.

I want to see the Mosley fight though

It's big money though..they may go at it again... though Mayweather has nothing to gain (except more money) by fighting DLH again...if he is going to continue fighting..he should set up the Mosley fight..

Dominated? Yes, I believe he clearly won 8 or 9 rounds out of the 12. Thats definetly a dominate performance.

As for the massacre...come on bruh. Both of these men are buisness men who are selling the fight.

Oscar is naturally too damn big for Floyd to massacre

Wow you people are so literal......

I certainly hope so

Mosley is aging fast though

so they need to get it done as soon as possible

kill this Oscar rematch shit(but oscar guarantees huge paydays)

a second fight would be the massacre he promised in the 1st (once he see the replay) and the stats would only get worse

boxing needs the mosley/shane fight

mosley isnt as fast but he hits hard

but mayweather has the philly d to perfection

maybe just as good as ray robinson

his face was evidence of it tonight

I don't know what the fuck some of you motherfuckers are talking about! I am gonna go on record right now and say Mayweather IS NOT gonna beat Antonio Margarito. He's gonna have a hard time with Cotto and a 35 year old Shane Mosley. I know some people like him because of his bling bling and flashy popularity but I didn't leave impressed at all.

Boxing is like politics and everytime someone disagrees with you, you shout out you don't know boxing, well I do know boxing. This motherfucker criticizes Sugar Ray Leonard for losing to Roberto Duran, one of the greatest fighters of all time, and he can't dominate a 34 year old fighter. De La HOya is 75/80% of what he used to be, tops! There is no way in the world this clown should be comparing himself to Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, or Ali. Tommy Hearns would have put this clown to sleep.

Delahoya is the same fighter he has aways been

they just dont fix his fights the way they used too

and you said you know boxing then you threw Cottos name in the mix

proves one thing

you dont know boxing

Cotto has a glass jaw and Floyds D is perfection

easy win homie....almost embarassing

Cosign...no rematch.

I think Oscar gave his best effort.. although the fight COULD have been better IF he continued to throw his jab, but Mayweather is just a bit too fast and too good defensively for DLH..the problem is that DLH needs to land the big shot to beat DLH(because he certainly is not going to out-point him), and I don't think he could ever land the solid punch he would need to really cause damage.

However, saying that, I still think that Floyd walked away with a lot more respect for DLH..you could see it after the fight...he was trying to get over there to give him props. DLH actually fought better than I expected..but Mayweather is just too fast.

The Mosley fight needs to happen immediately.

I'm not sold on the Robinson thing yet Alex... I still need to see MW beat a couple more great boxer first..he just doesn't have the resume yet.. He doesnt haven't the hearns and hagler fights like Leonard either...

im only speaking defensively....Robinson would kill any of these fighters of today.

But defensively floyd has that shit perfected.....

thats the calm you see in his body language

punches are flying at him and he just rolls them effortlessly

u cant teach that

James Toney has it too, but he too damn fat

its up there bro

right now, he's not hittable

remember delahoya was the much bigger fighter

Oh please, Delahoya is the same fighter at 34 that he was at 24? Give me a break. His fights were fixed huh? Is that why he has 4 losses and Mayweather is undefeated because he fought Judah, Delahoya and who?

Cotto has a glass jaw and Floyds D is perfection

easy win homie....almost embarassing

You have an Official Floyd Mayweather Fanclub card don't you :smh:

I probably haven't watched as many fights as you. However, I have been watching boxing for about 20 years now.

I will go on the record and say this. Mayweather is the best defensive boxer I have ever seen. You are right..the mofo is not hittable. And even when it may appear he is getting hit, is not really a clean hit..he is rolling those punches off. If he had a heavier hand, I think many boxers wouldn't step into the ring with him. He definitely isn't a "puncher" but he definitely doesn't need to be.. because he can just avoid the shots and "outbox" you.

That being said..I want to see him fight a fast boxer who can hit.

I am NOT comparing him to Roy Jones because although the comparison can be made because of their freakish speed... Jones was not a great technical boxer and they are in different worlds defensively..no comparison.. But because he is so fast and has the roll perfected..he never gets hit... I want to see if he has a CHIN...and I think Mosley is fast enough to hit him...and I would have never expected for Jones to have such a glass jaw...so I want to see if Floyd can take some shots....but shit might not happen if no one can hit this muthafucka

Actually Oscar has 5 lossses and it should be 7

he didnt beat sweet p
he didnt beat quartay

judges just give him points for trying steal rounds

sounds like your leading the oscar club

but its okay

hes a decent promoter

mosley is a body puncher and weve never seen PBF take those types of shots in a long time

the last time a fighter went after floyds body....he had to dig down deep to win

that would definitely be his truest test

unlike cotto, mosley can take a good shot too

Out of Toney, Hopkins, and Mayweather, Floyd seems to slip punches much better than the rest, but like you say eewwll, what would happen if he got caught flush with a good hook?

There isn't much time for Mayweather/Mosley to happen, but if people call for it, we may get it.

his defense is to good upstairs

to beat him, you have to go after his body

u cant roll rib shots

What fight were you watching? In no way could that have been considered easy and in no way did De La Hoya embarass himself.

One thing you did say made a little bit of sense, De La Hoya is the same figher he was before. Yeah, he's the same fighter that ran out of gas in the 8th round against Trinidad 8 years ago, that ran out of gas in the 8th round against Mosley 7 years. Now he's 34 and 2 fights in 3 years.

Mayweather clearly won the fight but it wasn't easy. He's no Sugar Ray.

Yeah, I do know boxing. I've been in the ring, trained at Maharis Gym in Detroit. I coached kids boxing and I'm a defensive tactics instructor. I've seen hundreds of fights on tv, seen dozens live. I know boxing.

Cotto hasn't been knocked out so you can't claim glass chin. He's been rocked twice completely disrespecting, walking in chin high.

no a cotto/mayweather fight would be embarrassing for cotto

it would be a one sided landslide

Mayweather is just too much for him

hell, Cotto will not beat zab judah......guaranteed

Cotto has been rocked by lesser fighters

PBF is just too much for him bro

i just hope that he doesn't pull a roy jones jr. and retire on and "L". i don't think that he should retire but he does have alot riding on his next fight (if he has 1)

How is has Mayweather started his career at 130 and now is fighting at 154 and didn't face Morales, Barrera, Casamayor, Juan Diaz, Hatton, Kostyzu, Cotto, Mosley, Winky Wright, etc.

How is that cat gonna retire and say he has nothing to prove as a boxer and but also claim he is the best to ever step in the ring without fighting those other fighters.. He didn't even soundly beat Oscar IMHO. If Oscar keeps the left jab going he wins the fight.

I respect his decision as he says he wants to spend more time with his family... but as a boxing fan..he needs to solidify his legacy..there are great fighters out there that he has avoided..

dam you dumb as fucking rocks, you just called out any name you could think of, morales barrera casamayor diaz fight at 130 moron..winky wright fight at 170

Floyd came up in weight to fight this fight...he started at 132...You don't think other fighters can come up in weight and he can also come down. The point is that there are other fights out there for him to take. especially Mosley.before he hangs it up

True.

I didn't see it.. but someone posted that he already said he would even be up to fight DLH again too... but i think he could get a decent amount from a Mosely fight if he fights up soon... obviously the purse wont be as big as this one.. but it could be a big payday though..

from espn.com:

• If Mayweather wins, the obvious next fight for him -- if he doesn't stick to his plan to retire -- would be welterweight star Shane Mosley. But Mayweather dismissed the possibility, belittling Mosley and saying he wouldn't fight him. "He ain't a businessman like me," Mayweather said. "What he got in two Oscar De La Hoya fights, I'll get in one. So when you talk about who's the smarter businessman, I'm the smarter businessman." Added Mayweather, "Why would I fight a sparring partner? I don't fight sparring partners." He was referring to Mosley's selfless decision to work with De La Hoya as a sparring partner to get De La Hoya ready for Mayweather. "If Floyd Mayweather ever decides to come back in the ring, he will never fight Shane Mosley on a percentage," said Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's best friend and one of his advisers. "That will never happen, and you can quote me. Why would we? Shane Mosley just did 3,800 people in the Mandalay Bay [against Luis Collazo in February] after beating Oscar two times. He just did $580,000 at the gate. Shane didn't even make $2 million for his fight. He has to be able to bring something to the table. At this point in his career, he brings nothing to [the] other table. He's admitted to himself that he's a sparring partner. We're not here to talk about Shane Mosley."
