The following definitions, provided by educator Louise Derman-Sparks, may be helpful in gaining a better understanding of why prejudice and racism are not synonymous:
PREJUDICE: belief in stereotypes
BIGOTRY: belief in White supremacy
RACISM: attitude, action, or way of life whose outcome oppresses people of color and benefits White people, regardless of stated intent.
WHITE PRIVILEGE: the consequences of historical institutionalized racism; the benefits that Whites receive (economic, social, cultural, political).

BLAMING THE VICTIM
“People who have not thought about or refuse to acknowledge this imbalance of power/privilege often want to talk about the racism of people of color. But then, that is one of the ways racism is able to continue to function. You look for someone to blame and you blame the victim, who will nine times out of ten accept the blame out of habit” (Gloria Yamato 2001: p93).

I agree that this world is dominated by a White power structure, but as DIck Gregory said once, "many of you white boys aint White"
There is a semantic issue about what being racist is. I view it as having a view that one "race" is superior to another, also having a general hated towards the other. Under that definition, ANYBODY can be racist.
As far as White imperialism, many Whites benefit from it, but many of them overestimate just how much power they have as an individual, and many Blacks do as well. I love being Black, I could give two shits about what some working class White guy thinks, he aint got no power over me. I stay AWARE of when and if there is a real consequence, because sometimes, my own racial prejudices may work against me, if not checked. I am aware that I have some racist views because I'm from the south, and I'm indoctrinated with some of the same bullshit we all were given by the WHte power structure from the get go.
The writer does make a case for why the slanderous words mean nothing, they just illustrate a bigger condition. ****** or Nigga is defined by who is saying it and what they mean by it.

The only reason racism is bad, is when there is POWER behind it. If you and your people don't have any power, then you're not as much racist as you are prejudiced, which is something else.
