Unfortunately its effecting our folks too. I know a pretty large group of young Black kids popping percs on the regular....

The opioid epidemic in America is impacting the lives of millions of people every day. Last year 72,000 American lives were lost to opioids. Many of these victims of fatal overdoses were to opioids like fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, and prescription opioids. Most of the victims are white men and women. Although white men and women experience higher percentages of opioid overdoses, the numbers of overdoses involving Black Americans and opioids have been increasing over the last 8 years. Opioid-related deaths increased in black communities by 41% in 2016 alone.
In particular, Chicago, Illinois and Washington D.C. see high rates of black deaths from opioid abuse, concerning health officials. Indiana is also witnessing fentanyl overdoses affecting the black population. In recent years, there have been alarming increases of opioid use in the black community. Between 2015 and 2016, there was a 56.1% spike in opioid-related overdoses in the black community. In 2011, Indiana saw 3% of the black population overdose from opioids. By 2017, 61% of black overdoses involved traces of fentanyl. In recent years, most of the increase in black opioid-related overdoses is the increasing overdose rates among black women.
The report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that 5,513 blacks died of overdoses involving opioids in 2017 – up 26 percent from 4,374 in 2016 – and the rate of such deaths adjusted for age increased by more than 25 percent. While the number of opioid-involved overdose deaths among whites was far greater at 37,113 in 2017, it represented only an 11 percent increase in both total deaths and death rate over 2016.
"There is a growing number of overdoses and overdose deaths in the African-American community," said the Rev. Damon Lynch III. "We want to get ahead of this before it becomes a full-blown crisis."
Officials say black communities are already in the midst of such a crisis.
" And in 2016, Black & African American youth 12-17 were more likely than whites to have used opioids in the past year. This data shows that we are moving in the wrong direction, & may be a precursor to even more opioid overdose fatalities in the black community in coming years."
For example, in 2015, West Virginia had 36.2 opioid overdose deaths per 100,000 white people; the rate jumped to 55.5 opioid overdose deaths among black people.
"The issue here is not that white people aren’t dying -- they are, and in record numbers," the report said. "The issue is that African Americans, who in some places are dying at rates exceeding any other racial group, are excluded from the conversation."

Can’t argue with any of that. I will however say that the doctors can do a much better job educating patients on opioids. After a while people build up tolerance and most need more to relieve pain. In my case I didn’t need more but the meds made my pain so much worse. Took years for me to understand that and educate myself on not only the dangers of the opioids but the mental effect they had on me.
Being on femtanyl, Oxy, muscle relaxers, and nerve pills at the same time after my last surgery scared the shit outta me. My pain was still there and I knew something was wrong so I just stopped. As I’ve mentioned b4 in a previous post you gotta wanna make a change and educate urself.
Now the gym, CBD oil and my spinal cord stimulator are my best friends.

Don't know where he got his facts but it is true ethnic numbers are fudged in favor of white people. I also still find it hard to believe that black people in this country have had 0 growth since the 60s and we still only 13/14% of the population. I personally believe that we are closer to 20%.
