Hollywood: Actors Union Investigating Michelle Williams – Mark Wahlberg All the Money Pay Disparity

After a Tuesday report from USA Todayclaimed that Michelle Williams was paid less than one percent of what her male co-star Mark Wahlberg made for All the Money in the World reshoots, the film actors labor union is looking into the matter. Deadline reports that SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) is examining the reports to determine if the Ridley Scott–directed biopic broke any of the Guild’s contract rules.

The sudden and unexpected reshoots came at the end of November, after multiple men came forward with accusations of sexual misconduct committed by one of the movie’s original stars, Kevin Spacey. Scott raced through extensive reshoots over the course of nine days in order to replace Spacey with Christopher Plummer in the J. Paul Getty role just weeks before the film’s release date. Scott had previously told USA Today that everyone, save the crew and Plummer, had agreed to do the reshoots for “nothing,” including himself and Williams. The implication being that everyone wanted to see the awards contender be released by whatever means necessary.

Yet, recent reporting from the New York Times* has claimed that Williams received an $80 per diem for each of the ten days of filming. That per diem is slightly higher than the union’s minimum wage. Wahlberg received the same per diem and an additional $1.5 million. According to the Times he was the last actor holding out on the reshoots — Williams and Timothy Hutton had agreed quickly to the per diem — and his agent was able to negotiate accordingly.

An unidentified Deadlinesource claimed, “If Williams was paid at least scale for the reshoots, there’s nothing SAG-AFTRA can do about it, and anything Wahlberg may have negotiated above scale is OK with the union.” According to Deadline neither Williams nor Wahlberg had reshoot clauses built into their original contracts. If Williams and the director Scott decided to work for the same flat fee despite the added days — the set amount agreed upon before the reshoots took place — then their unions would probably not be able to claim a contract violation.

Deadline, meanwhile, directed blame at WME, the talent agency that represents both Williams and Wahlberg. According to the USA Todaystory, Williams was never told about Wahlberg’s hefty fee when she agreed to do the extra work for small change. From the outside it appears that the agency did a better job (as in a 1,500 times better job) representing the movie’s lead actor than it did its lead actress. Though, as the Times points out, the two actors have different individual agents who may not have been aware of the other’s dealings.

'I 100% support the fight for fair pay': Mark Wahlberg donates $1.5M in Michelle Williams' name to Time's Up legal fund after pay disparity scandal

  • Wahlberg said in a statement on Saturday that he is donating his earnings from the All The Money In The World reshoot to Time's Up
  • His decision follows reports that he was paid substantially more than co-star Michelle Williams for reshooting the scenes
  • All the scenes that featured Kevin Spacey were reshot in November when the actor was replaced by Christopher Plummer
  • This reshoot required director Ridley Scott to bring back his two stars, Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams
  • It has been reported that Wahlberg was paid $1.5million for the 10-day re-shoot while Williams made just $80-a-day, according to Jessica Chastain
  • That would add up to $800 at the end of the 10-day shoot, which is 0.05 % the salary her co-star made for his work on the film
  • Williams, a four-time Oscar nominee, is the top-billed actor on the project and has more screentime than Wahlberg
  • Wahlberg's reps allegedly pressured producers to pay up if they wished him to partake in reshoot

i don't understand how mark is at fault.his agent did their job and his agent got a percentage. everything is getting funnel into time's up.

I don't think anyone is blaming Wahlberg for it, but they are represented by the same agency and didn't keep both of their client's best interest at hand when doing/negotiating the reshoots. They let one client, a man, walk away with a big ole' payout and didn't allow a woman (who, I believe, actually had more screen time than him) a better payout. They didn't represent her well at all. If anything, this makes Wahlberg look good with him donating his reshoot fee in her name...

yeah but that's after preesure from the industry he donated cause he looked bad. Williams decided not to get paid for re-shoots. wahlberg agents held out for more money which i can't front , if im in a position to do it, i would too. the owners of the film will make that doe back with no problem.

So, even if your client is okay with accepting no money, you, as her agent, don't push for more money?!? Cause, in the end, more money for her means more money for you...

Whoever her agent was, he/she didn't have her best interests in mind, period...which is making money. Owners of the film are greedy people, they all are. Of course they're going to go by with not paying her anything for reshoots if they can get away with it. It's just fishy to me how it was handled...

When I was trying to learn about this movie and if it was worth seeing, I saw where she said in an interview she offered not to get paid in order to reshoot. She was naive. I think she just wanted the movie to be put out, since it was a low budget movie and not a big blockbuster, she didn't want it to be scrapped. Once they found out the studio was going to reshoot her agent(agency) should have arranged a salary. Especially since her and Marky Mark have the same agent.

I'm sure she still knew Marky Mark was still getting paid

I'm glad Marky Mark was embarrassed in to giving his money away for the reshoots. Fuck that dude.

Mark Wahlberg was paid $1.5m to do a reshoot of All The Money in the World, but his co-star was paid $80 a day
Actor Mark Wahlberg has donated $1.5m (£1m) to the Time's Up legal defence fund.

The move comes after it emerged that he was paid the sum to reshoot scenes for the film All The Money in the World.

Wahlberg's co-star Michelle Williams was reportedly paid only $80 a day in expenses for the extra work.

Scenes had to be reshot after Kevin Spacey was removed from the completed film following the allegations of predatory sexual behaviour.

The Time's Up campaign is a movement against sexual harassment that was founded at the start of January in response to recent allegations in the media, film and broadcasting.

Its legal fund will offer support to people who have experienced sexual harassment, abuse or assault in the workplace.

"Over the last few days, my reshoot fee for All the Money in the World has become an important topic of conversation," Wahlberg said in a statement.

"I 100% support the fight for fair pay and I'm donating the $1.5m to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams' name."

Hollywood agency William Morris Endeavor, which represents both stars, said it would also donate $500,000 to Time's Up. It had already pledged to give $1m earlier this month.

Williams thanked those involved in the gesture, saying: "Today isn't about me. My fellow actresses stood by me and stood up for me, my activist friends taught me to use my voice, and the most powerful men in charge, they listened and they acted. If we truly envision an equal world, it takes equal effort and sacrifice.

"Today is one of the most indelible days of my life because of Mark Wahlberg, WME and a community of women and men who share in this accomplishment."

Williams also paid tribute to the actor who first came forward with allegations against Spacey. "Anthony Rapp, for all the shoulders you stood on," she said, "now we stand on yours."

The issue of sexual harassment and abuse has risen in prominence after allegations were made against a series of major figures in 2017, including Mr Spacey and producer Harvey Weinstein.

The #MeToo hashtag led to women and men from all walks of life opening up on social media about their experiences.

In December 2017 Time magazine named the "Silence Breakers" as its "Person of the Year".

The existence of a "gender pay gap" has become a prominent issue across many sectors in recent months.

Last week, the BBC's China Editor, Carrie Gracie, resigned from her post saying she felt that she wasn't being paid the same amount as similarly prominent correspondents who are male.

The BBC said in a statement that there was "no systemic discrimination against women" at the corporation.

Actors are like independent contractors. They have someone negotiate their salaries on their behalf when they get to a certain level. I can't stand Wahlberg as an actor. I think he plays the same dumbfounded, confused, angsty muthafucker in damn near everything he does.
That being said, I have always admired his fucking team. I have been saying for years that dude has a good agent because he's a shitty actor who somehow seems to get in good movies a lot.
I hate to say it but Mark is a box office draw. He is. Michelle Williams may have more raw talent but nobody's busting down the doors to see a Michelle Williams flick. I bet Mark's last movie made more than Michelle's last 4 or 5 movies combined. Maybe? Maybe not, but still...she ain't no box office draw.
Mark's agent got him that money because he may have said "Look, she might want to reshoot for free but this is work here and if you want me back on set, you are gonna have to pay" and I don't blame him one bit.
Women want to eliminate competition by way of guilt. Anyone who is an independent contractor of any kind knows that you are not just competing against a gender when you negotiate a rate for a job, you are competing against everybody; every other individual trying for the job.
They want to eliminate the free market. Sooner or later, people are going to start asking "Why is it so important to be equal in every way?"
These recent "movements" are hustles that have benefactors.

Here is the issue

If Williams and the director Scott decided to work for the same flat fee despite the added days — the set amount agreed upon before the reshoots took place — then their unions would probably not be able to claim a contract violation.

that doesn't work the way you imagine
If the artist said she doesn't want any compensation- and told this to the studio and the agent...
the agent can't demand any on her behalf - that is fraud
And talent agents are usually lawyers

So, basically, she dug herself into a hole by saying she would give up her money to do reshoots, if necessary. Once she said what she was willing to go without, she shot herself in the foot. Gotcha.

Nah, the bitch was virtue signaling, jumping on the band wagon.
Mark dropped his duckets in the bucket as virtue signal insurance.
He sees his peers going down like dominos and doesn't want to be caught in the crossfire, so he gave up his money for this gig so that he can make sure he can still make money down the line.
Wahlberg makes a lot more money than Michelle Williams does in general, so he has a lot more to lose from bad press.

' NOW I 100% support the fight for fair pay': Mark Wahlberg donates $1.5M in Michelle Williams' name to Time's Up legal fund after pay disparity scandal

*fixed for accuracy - he didn't support fair pay when he sought 1.5 milli for himelf but not her.

  • Wahlberg's reps allegedly pressured producers to pay up if they wished him to partake in reshoot

$80/day was not her salary for the movie.
Their agents negotiated their salaries.
The movie got shot. COMPLETED. They got paid.
The Kevin Spacey allegations happened.
The STUDIO decided to remove Kevin from the movie, so of course, some scenes had to be re-shot with Christopher Plummer in place of Spacey.
SHE basically said "I'll do the reshoots for free if it means getting KS off the project.
Mark said "fuck you; pay me", I don't work for free.
#metoo used her to reinforce their claims of the gender pay gap.
Mark said "fuck it; take my cut and STFU", just don't blackball me like you are doing everybody else.
And here we are.

Everyone is saying Michelle Williams was dumb and Mark Wahlberg was smart but at the end of the day, this whole thing is WME's fault - they should have never let her agree to do the reshoots for scale - even if she would have made a few hundred grand - then a least it's about their usual salary which can then be said to based on box office draw.

They need to investigate why my material ends up in all these movies and TV shows for which I get paid $0.00.

Maybe it has something to do with holding me hostage, to conduct illegal surveillance. The minute, I get paid, I will be on another continent.

Anybody being harassed for copyright infringement should contact me, I will expose these hypocritical clowns.
