yep book is a good read. Tera isn't in the first book at all and the gayness is way less. Tera in the book series is white and makes no appearance until late in the series. In the book the little white cop guy, not Andy, is a black woman. Bill is much less a pussy in the book too. I can spoil it because I doubt it will happen now but in the book Elvis is alive and he's a vampire who is really stupid because he was turned while on drugs, etc.. His scenes in the book cracked me up.

I kinda saw the killer's identity coming, in the trailer for the final episode I get the feeling that the woman who bailed Tara outta jail is a madam of some sort, and now Tara is indebted to her. I think it's kinda fucked up how Sookie said "fuck Bill" without even giving whatever he had to do time. In any event, this is a very good series.

A maenad is a nymph from Greek mythology and they are frenzied women in the thrall and worship of Dionysus who is the god of wine. Their name literally translates as "raving ones". They were known as wild, insane women who could not be reasoned with. The mysteries of Dionysus inspired the women to ecstatic frenzy; they indulged in copious amounts of violence, bloodletting, sexual activity, self-intoxication, and mutilation. They were usually pictured as crowned with vine leaves, clothed in fawnskins and carrying the thyrsus, and dancing with wild abandon. Maenads thrive on insanity, drunkeness and violence induced by intoxication and they live in the woods.

That Marianne appears to Tara who is drunk and angry is appropos -- this is a devation from the book, but I think it works. It also makes sense that she would have been attracted to the engagement party (she was on the road heading towards it), since it was a drunken fete with a murder in attendance.

We will see more of Marianne.
