HBO: Insecure -- Season 5 Official Discussion Thread (Final Season)

Yeah, lowkey Saadiq done put me on to so much shit thru this Insecure shit, I'm starting to know the songs and the artists before they make it to the show, too.

He fucked me up with this one, tho. YTF is it only a minute?

That one minute shit pissed me off. Get his ass in the studio and add 3 more minutes,

We just saw him grow and want to continue to see it
But the show was never about him
And how often do you see your ex and interact with them really? It'd have to be 2 different shows. Now a spin-off sure but in this show nah not anymore

Shit the Ex brought the women to the show. Bank teller/ and Co-worker. Plus his boy was funny, seem Lawrence was the main character. Issa made up some bs and off him and all his acquaintances!

Nah.
The show was created because of her lol.
It's literally her show she brought to HBO based off her web series
Lawrence was always supporting actor
The boy has no room he's done with the bank teller
Like it's over with

Lawrence was depressed his girl cheated on him instead of helping him he found out he got the dream job he got his own spot he living life

That's kinda it lol. Spin-off to show him dating other women sure
But on this show his story ran it's course completely he literally had a happy ending

imo - Lawrence is just the easily identifiable issue / gap
To my eyes the show has a problem - its evolving but so far they haven't been writing to reeducate its audience to the new evolution. In previous seasons we have gotten used to and gotten to know Issa Lawrence and Molly
For this season (at the half way point) we don't know anything about Molly outside of work, Daniel was further intro-ed, given a bit of development but appears to be dropped for now - leaving us only getting to watch Issa maybe learn /grow

Maybe they will return to the old formula by season end... Or even better redeem these choices through the story.
But IMO more likely over the next few episodes- Issa's story will devolve into further turmoil because her arc looks like a road map to uncertainty and bad luck

The thing is your losing the male perspective, exiting Lawrence but I get it...It’s Issa show. Imagine if the roles were reversed, women would go apeshit and he would be consider a hoe. The show is turning into Issa using guys for drinks/place to stay and their time. What male is really checking for Issa, no sex appeal, no body, broke and struggling. If my boy was dating her, my advice would be hit and quit.

And again if it were reverse it'd been for us any way so what women were complaining about wouldn't matter.

I guess it’s fair to talk about the ep now...I don’t get what happened w/ molly between the 2 women...the dude was brash during that meeting...she got in good w/ the other 2 chics...offered to help them w/ their case...they took her up on her offer the next day but she said she was busy helping the dude which is the primary case she was working on...their reaction was awkward imo...they had to understand that case was her first priority...idk it was just weird...I felt like they took it the wrong way

I took it as why did she volunteer in the first place if she was going to be too busy to help.

i took it as that 2 girls who are their own little clique were kinda inviting Molly to be down with them and dont really care for the guy!
Now Molly says she was busy and then working with him instead of them. The 2 girls were talking shit about him to Molly and now you with him.

Women are like that haha

It felt disrespectful. Like you talk shit about the dude and try to be cool with us then go turn around to help the dude like nothing happened. After offering to help them in the first place.

You all are right about the feeling the ladies had, especially when going to work with the male co-worker in his office.

But it’s not like they were asking for help right then, it was later that night.

@Picasso: I think that's crucial to understanding that scene. Consider also that when she had that last interaction with those women she was wearing this:

....When up till then, she always would dress in conservative business attire like this:

Insecure-Season-3-Episode-3-Recap-Backwards-Like.jpg

Molly wants to be a contender by any means necessary - even if it means getting in good with the guy the ladies in the office dislike, but the boss seems to favor. Molly wants to be recognized so badly that she will use sex to get there - either by getting Taurean to notice her body or by actually fucking him. Meanwhile, she promised her female co-workers that she had plenty of spare time to give them helping them review the questions for the Patterson case. Now suddenly, when they're ready to collab with her that night, instead (wearing a ho dress) she tells them she won't be available. Evidently, she'll be working with Taurean that night instead. Possibly on more than just job related stuff.

Molly is impatient, impulsive and reckless, and as we see from this move here, she burns bridges. She wants recognition at this job but doesn't want to first learn the system and social etiquette of that firm and then work within it to earn status. Now she has damaged her budding relationship with the two women and appears to them as a unreliable, two-faced opportunist. She's begun her journey on the road to career suicide.

Great take!

Is that a bad thing? Sex And The City revolutionized how (white) women talked about sex and relationships on TV.
Bruh I'm not mad at it but the Issa's character isn't as interesting as it was to begin with. Seems like Molly's character is the one growing. Show seems to be spinning it's wheels and not usuing the originality it started off with to gain our attention. I said Sex in the City because some of the recent story lines are mirroring that show.

They started with the blood nigga then ended with Lawrence

I don’t care what anyone says, can’t be doin that shit with a baby in you.

She gonna fuck up the thing with hTown nigga

And wtf he talkin bout, every pool party I’ve been to was all about swimmin

This nigga givin the worst info on my city

Issa is tripping. She knows what job she needs to go for. Go for it.
Amanda knows that they're drifting apart and in completely different places in their lives. Rules that always apply "like is with like" and every day she's becoming less like them. She knows she's gonna eventually just fade away and it's a sobering moment for her.
It was fucked up they got kicked out straight bullshit.
Htown hella, idk something about him ain't right.
Molly just gotta shine. It's not even a charming type of shine. It's not a determined I'm going to get there kind of shine. It's the kiss ass burn bridges do extra work for validation shine. She was dancing because she got a thumbs up from her boss. Her work obsession is going to ruin her and no its not cause she a woman with a career its because she's going to be a woman with a career who forgets to have a life and puts value in people's opinions of her that she really shouldn't

Lawrence chilling just like we knew he was.

It's interesting reading women's opinion on Lawrence popping up
Last I checked Issa was the one who dogged him and out and broke his heart but they're telling her not to take him back lol

Man I don’t even Follow black twitter on this show...

Way to many emotions..., shits like a black civil war

Haven't heard that response from my girlfriends that watch the show - many if they are just happy to see "bae" back lol

I just don't want it to become this big "will they? Won't they?" storyline that we've seen time over and time again.

An ex is an ex for a reason, and maybe they should just leave him as that. But, real life gets complicated and I know I've messed around with exes after breaking up, despite knowing that shit wasn't good for either of us. I just don't want the show to be too damn formuliac.

So far it hasn't and I like the introduction
Lawrence is balling out so it's reasonable he'd be at the concert too... He liked the same things issa liked that's why they were able to be together for so long

Just the snide remarks saying you finally found happiness and he pop up it's the devil.

I'm thinking what show you watching?

She quit her job driving Lyft full time trying to figure out her life while being the super for some apartments and htown ain't even text her after they had that day together

Her life ain't in shambles but it ain't together either and def not in a position where Lawrence could be like cool you doing good girl.

What I hope happens is they catch up and he supports her and tells her all the things she didn't tell him- I believe in you- you'll be ok- you'll land on your feet and be even better.

And then he's out

i was honestly going to bail on the show after last night's episode. it had gotten way too dumb. as i mentioned before this season is way too unbalanced. and the ridiculous shit had gotten out of hand along with the paper thin development of the male characters ala "waiting to exhale."

the last scene literally is going to keep me watching at least for another couple of eps.

The show was losing me. I'm glad Lawrence and dj yella are back. He may be her ex, but she still loves him. The last time she saw him, she was dreaming about marriage and kids together. That rarely leads to no more contact.

It was cool to see those bruhs back. Neil Brown Jr. is about to start his 2nd season as one of the stars of Seal Team.

This is exactly what I was thinking about before the last scene.

Based on some of these comments, I guess I was one of the few who thought last night was the best episode of the season even before Lawrence popped up... big girl funny as hell
