Has anyone ever used this for data recovery?

I'll be watching this post for community results. I have 2TB Seagate that conked out on me, and it has all my sons baby pics and videos on it. My computers recognize a drive is there, but won't assign the drive letter or let me read it.
I've never heard of it and found out from research that data recovery is expensive, probably ripping people off with the charges...... I've had external hard drives crash that had files that I wanted, but nothing that I was going to pay per kilobyte for..... I saw this ad on YouTube :dunno:

Save yourself some money & go buy a cheap enclosure from Microcenter or the like.

Then DL Linux (Ubuntu is the most user-friendly) & install it onto a USB.

Boot off that USB & start Linux. Plug in the HD enclosure & see if Linux sees it. If Linux does, copy all of those files from the HD to another USB & you good.

If it doesn't, then you're going to need software to recover the data.

BTW, if the HD is clicking or making off-brand/screeching noises, the heads have crashed & you are going to need major work.
