Before then he was known for writing JSA, Stars and Stripes and Flash (wally west).

Green Lantern had been cancel. Fans no longer cared about Kyle Rayner. Neither he nor John Stewart could carry a solo green lantern series.

the writer is the reason the comic is good. the character is the extension of the writer's imagination. poor writing will make buyers lose interest in a title, just as good writing will draw audiences when marketed properly. under other writers Hal Jordan wasn't a selling point.
as such, all the numbers say is that a good writer began to tell a good story, and people enjoyed it.
Hal Jordan is not a real person. he's a make believe character. the writer makes the characters good or bad.

Exactly! This is a classic example of "original trailers that scare off potential customers". That first trailer looked like some super cheesy, campy shit. This one looks like how Green Lantern should be: an epic, space traveling, multi-lanterns event!
Kick-Ass suffered the same thing with it's trailer. They made it seem like some kiddy superhero movie, and it was not like that at all....
