Greatest NBA Player From 2000 to 2010?

This man right here.

Tim+Duncan.jpg

only one reason I don't give it to Kobe.

Hands down.....then Shaq, then Kobe

Kobe fans are just as delusional as any other player overhyped by the media. Shaq isn't overrated? Shaq wasn't nearly as dominating a force as he should have been. How did the dude not lead the league in rebounds ONE year? I'm sure someone will come up with an excuse for that, but Shaq was the most dominant force in the league since Wilt Chamberlin, and not only has he never league the league in rebounding, but I don't think he has too many scoring titles if ANY.

How is that even possible for Shaq?

Yet, no one calls him overrated. Just because you win titles that don't mean you can't be overrated.

I agree with you...Shaq was overrated but he was still a great player and was the driving force of those 3 titles in LA.

But you're right, not leading the league at least one year in rebounding is pretty pathetic.

Maybe I'm reading the thread title wrong but does this offer the opinion on the greatest player for the past decade or which player had the greatest season...

Also, are we talking about statistically or overall... because overall, Kobe by a landslide! No other player has impacted the game as much, inspired so much hate and like, and been under the microscope and performed more than Kobe... I know a lot of people may want to include LeBron and while he has had probably the best start to a career in a very long time under intense pressure, the fact remains he won no chips during that time.... And as great as Tim Duncan has been, he over the past few seasons especially has become more of a secondary star on that team, behind Manu and TP...

Oh, and by the way I am a Kevin Durant and Sixer fan, just objective thats all.... before the juveniles come in and try to claim I am blinded by some mystical influence Kobe seems to have over his fans... :D

Still remember Tim won his first ring when and how many seasons was the guy in the league??

In his time in the league.

Tim has had the likes of Karl Malone and Charles Barkley call him the best power forward ever.

This is the guy as I said before that never had to wait for someone else to leave before the Spurs were his team.

As The Admiral said he knew once Tim was drafted this was his team and he accepted that. Which why they didn't have any petty beef or problems.

Tim was humble enough to learn as much as he could from David.

Yea his least ring was in 2007 but still the Spurs have since 1999 have always been among the talks of contenders in the west.

The Lakers had a time where they didn't make the playoffs

If we are looking for greatest player NBA Player since 2000-2010 I go with Tim Duncan because believe it or not that was the time when Tim was putting in work.

People always say Kobe is chasing Jordan and wants to add on his legacy. In the time span of 2000-10 Tim made his mark and it's why you heard the likes of Bill Russell and other legends say Tim is the best power forward ever.

Best NBA player for 2000-10??

Tim Duncan the big fundamental.

Shaq was LA's #1 guy...

...but Kobe was the guy with the ball in his hands more than anyone else. Kobe was always called on to use his one-on-one ability to close out quarter and games. The perfect example of that is when he crossed up Scottie against Portland and tossed Shaq that alley. Hell, the play where Robert Horry knocked down that big three against Sactown, Kobe was the one who took the shot that Shaq knocked out to Horry.

I don't know how people forget that, but Kobe was a little more than 'help' on that team. Hell, I remember San Antonio got rid of Antonio Daniels and I think Derek Anderson, 'cause Kobe was giving those niggas the business out on the perimeter.

Love him or hate him... But Kobe aint called the Mamba for nothing. Shaq was good but lazy and Timmy is always a quiet force but no one player give coaches and other players that fear of being embarrassed like Kobe used to give cats.

People like to throw it out there that he had help.. well so did Timmy

I'd agree but Kobe only brought O, Duncan did all facets of the game the best at his position:cool:

All I'm gonna say is that #24 won a chip in 2000 and 2010, ten year difference, has that ever happened..... Sorry its Kobe. That's why he was player of the decade....

Yes Timmy had help no one is saying that. I look at what Tim did in the time of 2000-10. His team was always in the playoffs and was always among the best teams in the west.

Also the biggest thing in that time span Tim added to his legacy where many NBA legends and hall of fame players call and dubbed him the best power forward of all time.

Even Kobe said it himself. Along with Bill Russell, Karl Malone and other great PF's and big men.

Years from now 2000-10 will be the time where Tim Duncan became the best power forward of all time.

Who else can you say that about. That in that same span became the best ever in their position??

Jason Kidd

I'm a Nets fan but at the same time Jason is great but at the same time he has put up the numbers statistically wise

but he never won a ring. He did what many couldn't he actually made the Nets respectable and took them to finals twice.

Ever since he has left they had a struggle

He turn shit to gold.

Players like Martin, Mikki Moore, RJ and others owe a percentage of their contract to Kidd

I really wish Kobe had his own team in the East during that time. We could really judge how good he really was. Those playoff battles used to be pretty good with all those perimeter lead team competing...Iverson, Kidd, Carter, Pierce, Tmac. I don't think Kobe would have really fared well if he was in those guys situations. I still have the upmost respect for those named above even though they don't have the hardware.

A lot easier to CLAIM the title of Best PF because the lineage is so much less steep than any other positions, especially SG. Name 15 GREAT all time PF's and compare them to the top 15 greatest SGs and I guarantee you there will be more SGs in everybodys top 20 then PFs. That being said, not to take anything away from TD, but his overall impact on the game during the last decade is much less than Kobe's. How many signature games, moments has Tim had? And not to say that someone has to be flashy to be considered, but TD's signature moments are so few where as to a point, Kobe's career especially has been more of a culturally impactful career than TDs...

Oh no doubt. Kobe is the guy who who went months scoring over 30 points. Who put up 61 in The Garden and 81 points. Yes he is the bigger highlight guy but as Bill Russell said

Tim Duncan is the big fundamental.

He is not flashy. He isn't the guy will dunk on people or you will find on someone high light film but what he done in that time span puts him on top.

I'm not just talking about scoring point. I mean on defense. rebounding. blocking shots. One of the best big man passers ever.

I mean seriously Tim was the total package.

Tim Duncan impact on basketball in 2000-10 can be seen with his championships, his mvps and his stats, also his team success.

Tim Duncan is the Greatest Player from 2000-10.

Again people will look back at the time as when the Greatest Power Forward of All Time played.

Damn, man. :(

I can't give up on watching Kobe yet. This picture reminded me so much of what has consumed the guy, and even though he is likely to fall short, I've watched the guy make one hell of an attempt to knock MJ off of his throne.

People can clown all the fuck they want, but have no idea of how great you have to be to even be put in the same SENTENCE as some ol' mutant ass nigga like Mike.

Fuck it, man.

I do have issues with Kobe, but I'll roll with him 'til he can't do it anymore. Hell, it's not like I've stopped posting in basketball related threads and frequenting Lakers forums, anyway.

Can't argue with that but most people are going to say Kobe

Tim has accomplished it all and has done it with class throughout. At this point...it's tough to do this but When I look at the Lakers rings compared to San Antonio's...

Nets & Cavs are series that were just a cape walk for San An

The only ring that LA didn't have to fight for was Philly...and Philly played good at home and their defense amazing. I believe San Antonio has always had a better bench and better starting PG than the Lakers the entire 2000-10...the only bench that was beasting was the Horry squad...who ended up hitting the same big shots in San Antonio

Tim is like a Honda Accord sedan. It will give much better stats all-around than a Panamera. (fuel economy, room for 5, reasonably priced so more people can afford it, excellent reliability). It might not look as good, but it can do way more, and you can drive it all year round!

Kobe is like a four door Porsche. (not the smallest guy, almost as quick as a two door 911, belongs to a supremely rich and historical manufacturer, unnecessary at times, overpriced, Loud, gas guzzler, etc.)

But when kids see the Porsche its almost like the Accord isn't even there

That's the best way I can describe why Kobe will go down as the best player of the decade...people will just take the eye test and say...WHOA that dude was AMAZING!!!

To me nobody is right or wrong in this debate

So I will go with the kids because they are always right

KOBE KOBE KOBE

I just understand that any topic about this generation when it comes to Kobe will be blatantly biased, so are these types of threads... A lot of the 'factors' against Kobe are really skewed and off balance.... like how the hell can you have a top 5 in the decade and NOT include Kobe in it... BUT, you have a list of people whom a lot have won no championships... and then when it comes to Kobe the argument is he's always had great teams, it's not like TD had to come into the league and play on a JV squad... Dude came IN to the league with David Robinson on his team, he's always had a Parker, Manu, Horry hitting big shots, and honestly Avery Johnson was underrated...

All and all, a typical double standard... :smh:

You're right, I wish he would have never got traded from Charlotte in a way boy would MJ love that

But number 8, He always shut those guys down when he went against them

I remember people arguing with me about T-Mac being the best...about A.I. being the best...VC being the best....Kobe just is good b/c he has Shaq...blah blah blah Kobe wanted to get better. He was never satisfied. Intense training, getting pieced up by Chris Childs lmao, competing with Shaq but knowing when to dial it down during championship time...

In the end look @ where Kobe and Tim are...and look how those other dudes ended up. Pierce gets mad props because he was on a sorry ass team for way too long, and KG was in the west with San Antonio and LA...and with Kidd he is still the greatest PG of the era...
As for the Diesel, I'll give Shaq 1997-2003 as the most dominant years I've ever witnessed in my lifetime by any athlete in any sport

Now we are witnessing a new era unfolding with Lebron and Wade leading the way, D-Will, CP-3, Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay (wish u were healthy), Russell Westbrook, Rajon Rondo, Melo (please learn to play D),Dwight D-12 Howard, D. Rose, and a couple others

These playoffs have me very excited for the future of the game, and wrapping up the Kobe Tim discussion, you cant lose with either guy but you already know I'm going with the Porsche Panamera over the Honda Accord EX

Not really remember Timmy came in to the league on a Spurs team that had the worst record in the league. David Robinson was injured and they ended up with the worst record.

That's how they ended up with Duncan.

Tim came on to a team full of old men.

David Robinson knew his time was going to end soon.

Sam Elliot he was nearly done. Came back from his kidney problems like a champ.

Avery Johnson??

Remember the year he won his first championship? What was the spurs record in the first month???

Tim went through struggles as well.

I respect what Kobe has done and he is number 2 on my list.

Timmy just did more in his time.

As Diplomatic Immunity said true the only team they swept were the Cavs. Knicks and Nets went six . Pistons seven games.

Tim Spurs team had to be rebuilt smart.

Tony Parker remember what pick he was?? Manu?? These weren't high picks these were draft steals that had to be develop.

Tony Parker grew to the player he was. He didn't in year one showed what he showed in 2003 finals. Stephen Jackson was let go by the Nets and was picked up by the spurs (:smh::smh:) and found poetic justice to kick our ass in the finals.

The Spurs had a great front office and GM and I do credit them but at the same time I still look at who was the key the guy that was the leader.

Timmy.

Again in the span of 10 years Timmy success can be seen in his numbers, his mvps, his all star appearances, his championships and his team success as well.

Again Tim in 10 years showed why he will be the best power forward ever.

.

Tim Duncan. Kobe #2. During the first two championships for LA, Kobe wasn't even the first option. It was Shaq. He didn't even take the clutch shots, Horry did. Tim Duncan has always been option 1 for San Antonio. On top of that, he's made the players around him better. LA got All-Stars in trades whereas Tony Parker and Ginobli were drafted. They were better players because of Tim. Kobe does not have that same distinction.

It's Tim Duncan!

1. Kobe was never the first option - but when Phil came, Kobe was always the guy that closed out quarters and the end of games. Remember, until the rule changed that allowed another player to shoot freethrows in the last few minutes of the game, Shaq was taken off the floor because he was a liability. Kobe would become the #1 option, and LA would rely on their spot up shooters even Kobe couldn't finish himself.

2. Ok, this is borderline ridiculous. Robert Horry has definitely hit some big shots in his day, but to suggest he was LA's go to guy in the clutch...? Horry got the shots Kobe or Shaq didn't take.
