GOTHAM: New 'young' Batman - themed series on FOX

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I really don't get the big deal about airing shows on Friday and Saturday?

They act like HBO wasn't really the FIRST ones to bring back Sunday Night appointment viewing with sopranos sex and the city Oz and the wire

like Soul Train, American Bandstand, Golden Girls, 227, Amen, SNL , Mad TV, WWF, etc didn't thrive on Saturday?

Especially with DVRs now?

they really need to stop log jamming these shows.

Social media is essentially FREE advertising for these shows

a couple of Instagram Facebook live snap chats and contests free prizes?

you got a hit for a fraction of the normal promotional budget.

I guess nowadays they just think people dont stay home on Fri and Saturday nights

Gotham Falls to Series Low Ratings in Season 4

Robin-Lord-Taylor-in-Gotham-Season-3.jpg

Gotham’s season 4 ratings have hit an all-time low for the FOX series. In the age of cord-cutting, and more entertainment options being available than ever before, the expectations for TV ratings have changed considerably. A decade ago, it was common for the biggest hit network shows to post numbers exceeding 5.0, while today it’s common for all but the most successful programs to regularly come in below a 3.0.

Even taking that overall downward trend into account, Gotham’s ratings drops each season have been fairly precipitous. Gotham season 1 averaged a pretty healthy 2.2 in the ratings, only to see season 2 fall to a 1.4 average. Season 3 continued the slide, averaging a 1.1 when all was said and done. Thankfully, this number still enabled Gotham to crack the top 10 scripted shows on FOX, albeit just barely. That factor presumably played a part in the network’s eventual decision to renew Gotham for season 4.

Unfortunately, Comic Book reports that Gotham’s season 4 ratings have already set a new series low, with only two episodes having aired. The season 4 premiere – entitled “Pax Penguina” – earned a 1.0 rating, with 3.2 million total viewers tuning in. That sets a new record for lowest rated Gotham premiere. As if that wasn’t bad enough, this week’s follow-up episode, “The Fear Reaper”, dropped to a 0.8 rating, with only 2.8 million total viewers. Those are the lowest numbers in the history of Gotham’s run.

Making matters worse is that, from a statistical standpoint, ratings are more likely to decrease than increase, as the season goes forward. If that happens, Gotham could very well end up falling into CW-level ratings territory by next year. A 0.6 average may be enough to get Supernatural renewed, but Gotham is a higher-profile show, carrying a bigger budget, and airing on a more prominent network. If Gotham drops that far, one wonders if FOX will see fit to bring the series back for season 5.

On the other hand, with Gotham season 4 set to rapidly advance Bruce’s fateful transformation into Batman, there’s a chance that Gotham’s story may not even need a season 5. Of course, even if season 4’s finale ends up serving as a logical end point for Gotham, that doesn’t necessarily mean producers would say no to doing another season if FOX decides it wants to order one.

I have a feeling this is going to get canceled after this season, because FOX fucking shit up as usual....I fucking hate that network.

Honestly, this should be the last season.

Bruce is damn near batman at this point.

Barbra is no longer that interesting.

Penguins, crime licenses was at 1st funny, now kinda ridiculous.

Only thing I really like about the show anymore is Zaz.

Gotham: Jerome is ‘Obviously Not the Joker’

Despite plenty of evidence to the contrary, it turns out Jerome isn’t the Joker of Gotham after all. When Gothampremiered, it did so promising plenty of Easter eggs for the Dark Knight’s greatest foe. Throughout the series, maniacal laughter could be heard and ‘HAHAHA‘ graffiti is never hard to spot in the city. We’ve even seen a failed standup and a take on the Red Hood persona, both homages to The Killing Joke.

Once Jerome Valeska was introduced, however, the Joker seemed to have arrived. Raised in an abusive setting in the circus, we quickly learned about Jerome’s dark past. With each new season, his mania grew more and more and fans began to embrace actor Cameron Monaghan’s unique take on the proto-Joker. In the end, though, it looks as he the character was merely an homage.

Comic Book spoke with Gotham co-executive producer Bryan Wynbrandt, who revealed that Jerome would never become the Joker on the show. In fact, the villain might never appear at all.

“Obviously Jerome is our homage. He’s obviously not the Joker himself, although [he] clearly seems to be the impetus that eventually creates the Joker. The more that we see him, the more he carves out his own path I’d say. I wouldn’t say he becomes more the Joker, but the Jerome character continues to evolve.”

All told, this seems like a bit of a cheat. The producers of Gotham have regularly teased fans that both Joker and Harley Quinn were coming to the show, only to backpedal once the media coverage has run its course. Meanwhile, Jerome’s most recent appearance had him looking uncannily like the Joker, from his face to his clothes. Taking Wynbrandt at his word, though, it seems the minds behind the show just aren’t comfortable altering the character.

“This is a show about origin. last year we paid homage to one of our favorite Batman stories, ‘The Killing Joke.’ I think there’s definitely stuff within the canon that we as a room are more willing to be nimble with and more willing to go a different direction than the cannon. For instance, the Penguin/Nygma love story. When it comes to Joker, he’s so iconic to that Batman character that it feels like we don’t want to get to Joker ever. Jerome feels like he is that origin of that.”

Again, the explanation feels a bit like playing both sides. Jerome has essentially delivered Gotham a take on Joker, but the producers can claim that’s not the case to cover themselves from any fan outrage. Considering how much Jerome is beloved on the show, however, the whole thing seems unnecessary. Regardless, Monaghan has certainly made his mark on the series. And while he generally disappears for long stretches, here’s hoping it won’t be much longer until he returns.

‘GOTHAM’ PRODUCER SAYS FULL BATMAN TRANSITION IS VERY CLOSE
Kim Taylor-Foster10/12/2017
DCTV

Gotham is currently in its fourth season. A season that writer, director and executive producer on the show, Danny Cannon, calls “the crazy, bananas season.”

“We just go nuts,” he says. Speaking at New York Comic-Con, the British creative force behind the show — which rewinds to Bruce Wayne’s childhood years — teased some enticing details about the season during a round-table interview. Including Bruce’s imminent transition to full-blown Batman.

“We’re getting very close,” says Cannon. “The turmoil that he goes through this season is the death rattles of youth, basically. He’s becoming a man and starting to feel the responsibilities of that, and things go really badly before they get better. His relationship with Alfred will break down and be tested, and dissolve. He will also take on a disguise, a personality disguise and become a billionaire brat, something that Bruce Wayne needs to do to throw people off the scent of his vigilante passions.”

DEVELOPMENTS FOR RA’S AL GHUL AND PENGUIN
627

Ra's al Ghul gets really evil in Season 4.
We’ve already had a taste of that persona in Episode 3 of Season 4, where Bruce adopted the guise at the auction of Ra’s al Ghul’s knife, outbidding Barbara Kean. Ra’s al Ghul is another of this season’s significant characters.

“Halfway through, you see how evil he really is,” says Cannon.

Ra’s al Ghul actor Alexander Siddig, sitting alongside Cannon, says he loves playing a bad guy in Gotham.

“Bad guys are the most fun to play because they get all the best lines and they’re often the sexiest roles,” he says. “The fact that I get to figure out ways to make it not too obvious what I’m trying to do is my challenge, the thing I really enjoy. And the writers make no bones about exactly what they’d like to see and what they need done by Ra’s al Ghul, and I try and find a way to confound them and still deliver. Surprise, that’s probably my M.O.”

This season, Siddig’s favourite scenes have been some of those with David Mazouz, who plays Bruce Wayne, and a dungeon scene that he won’t elaborate on.

We'll see Penguin behind bars this season.
Finally, Cannon also spilled some beans on Penguin’s story this season: “Penguin is so good at being in charge that one of our other cast will find a way of dismantling him for good. Of taking him out of the picture and putting him back in prison where he belongs. But the bad thing about going to prison for our characters is there’s a lot of bad people in prison with him so you can imagine what’s going to happen there.”

Definitely sounds ominous.

A pig head psycho who murders dirty cops?

Guess Kaepernick socks weren't as bad as they said?

So ummmm?

Where the boycott at?

First thing that came to my mind...Everybody have been calling cops pigs for years and all of a sudden white folks want to be outrage over some dayum socks...

As,for Lee,they should just write her off the show, because the moment they made her an emotional idiot,it ruined it for me with her.

Lee was good at first, but for whatever reason, they made her character stupid....How the fuck you're going to be mad at Gordon for killing your husband, when your husband was going to kill you. And,then even knowing this you still was mad at Gordon for most of the season.

She known Gordon longer than her husband and should of known Gordon would of never shot her husband unless he tried to harm her,but she just ignore it.

What makes it even more fucked up,I think it was Gordon that came up the idea to move and she insisted they stay in Gotham.....

While I don't like it?

It actually makes PERFECT since Bullock would hate Gordon;'s self righteous sh*t

But it could have been done a little better with more time.

agreed it doesn't make sense

but in GOTHAM logic

remember Bullock NEVER wanted this...EVER

but NOW?

He had has it?

and as much as he keeps drinking and taking antacids?

Its GOOD being the KING? (or baron whatever....)

I like that they taking they time with Butch / Grundy

(Even thought they NEED to give that man a shirt)

cause you can SEE him getting smarter

nice cracked reflection

Grundy getting smarter as Nygma is trying to get smarter....

let's see who gets there FIRST?

I can't wait til they go back to the Scarecrow arc,but you're right about Bullock. With that said,he's known Gordon for awhile and would never betray him unless he has too, hell I don't even think Gordon wants the commissioner's job,he's just want Bullock to do the right thing.

Wow...a prime time show

killing dirty cops calling them pigs?

and NO BACKLASH?

interesting....
