Golden Krust CEO shot dead

Hawthorne opened the first Golden Krust store on E. Gun Hill Rd. in 1989.

dam...i lived on gun hill...i was gone by 89 tho ...

RIP

How was the food? We don't have any here. Just a couple joints that look down on the black customers that support them. :smh:

Shit i came to town for Sheila E's concert at Chene Park. The place was damn near a graveyard no lie. Its like any afro Latin culture yall ain't checking for it.

If Sheila E was a dead crowd Golden Krust wouldn't do well in your town. Yall love sharwma wraps and folks from the gas stations talking to yall crazy.

Its a Jamaican spot i frequent in a college town out there near yall. The owner is from Port Maria.

very inconsistent

its difficult to maintain quality and push volume - make it worse none of the cooks followed the recipes
so if you walked into the right GC jes when the right cook was working and all ingredients fresh - its good food
but he never figured out how to have all locations producing good meals consistently

But there’s that authenticity or lack thereof with the food. GC was like the McDonald’s of JA restaurants.

It’s kool if your Island Grill at the Manley airport and you wanna get a quick bite to eat. But his cookie cutter food wasn’t the business, especially with the emergence of buffets popping up as of late.

Even the bread, compared to Tastees for example, wasn’t the greatest. Not saying his business was in the shitter, but it wouldn’t shock me if the comp stiffened up more than he expected.

Dam wtf, they opened a Golden Krust in Houston too.
Yeah my wife's cousin actually just opened it about a month ago now.

I'm in complete and utter shock at dude committing suicide. Never met him but heard great things about him from 2 other owners I knew back in Brooklyn.

Rest in Power my yute...

Don't quote me on this, but many years back, the only reason, owners themselves started selling food was because that part, under the franchise they could keep that money.

If you can remember way back, they only used to all sell patties. Then on top of that, they used to only make as owners 50% of the patty as a profit. You had to buy your patties only from him. So selling food on the side started up.

But today, not sure how much of it goes back to the franchise. I'll have to ask wife cuz when we see her again.

Not trying speculate to much but the above article bears a slight resemblance to the gc ceo "suicide"', the conspiracy theorist in me has to at least wonder if these are simply cases of the boss deciding to go down with the ship or the "bagman" coming to collect loan money that was past due and helping out with with the death when it was not ready...

Highly doubt that. Either he may of been extorted or pussy would do this I'd think.

If you want to speculate that about Grace Foods, that's another story.

Check dude’s Facebook. He was either secretly depressed or got in with the wrong people because he had way too much to live for.

Hmmmmmm

Tragic end to such an accomplished life....
