so i recently cut my hair

i was feeling spontaneous...and i HATE it

now im feeling like this...if i cant get this cut right...its gonna take forever to grow back as long as it was...

maybe.....just maybe.....

i should chop it off and go natural!:dance::eek::dance::eek::dance:

honestly a big reason reason i dont want to is because I DO NOT WANT TO WEAR DREADS

and id rather not wear a mini afro either

where can i go to look at some options and read about the process

DO IT!!!! Google "straw set" and "twist out". These are 2 great natural styles that last a while. Also remember if you like the straight look you can still always press your hair. You have so many more options natural than not and you don't have to expose yourself to all those chemicals. Remember, the origin of the perm is from slavery days when a punishment for slaves was to dip their head in lye :smh:

Are you serious??/ I have never heard this!

DeSire-I am natural but....I keep my hair in braids. I havent had a perm in God knows when...I am tempted to show you guys my new look but ummmmm....I dont know how I feel about this color...:smh:

dont go fro....let it grow out.

my ex cut hers and its been a year and she still has more than a year to go by my estimations. poor thing regrets not letting it grow out....

I say let it grow out. .

You can always press it or blow dry it straight. I would say get braids while you are trying to decide what to do with it.

I started growing my perm out about three years ago. .

The easiest way for me to do it was to keep it braided and when I would take the braids down to cut off a little bit of the permed ends each time I washed it.

Like Bigirl said there are a lot cute natural styles you can rock. . . it just takes some creativity.

BG I respect your zeal, passion and fervor when when it comes to calling out stuff like the above highlighted.

But only when it's not bullshit.

Not only is it chemically inaccurate. "Perm"anent hair straightening (which is actually never really "permanent") is a two-step reduction-oxidation (Red-Ox) reaction and simply treating the hair with lye (alkali) wont make it straight.

The origins of the perm are from the 19th century cultural pressures to "properly" groom themselves.

Hair was slicked in waves with axle grease, wrapped with string to make it straight and relaxed using concoctions of potatoes, potash, lye and heavy fat.

This concentration carried on into the twentieth-century with Madame C.J. Walker's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madam_C.J._Walker) invention of the straightening comb and the continuous upgrades of lye perms.

Soulja Boy Tell Em.

Being natural can be good for you... I am natural and so is my best friend after years of perms... Hers was a harder transition than mine, and this is actually her second time going back to being natural.. anyway... It all depends on your versatility and what you want. I think straw sets and stuff are cute, but would never work for my natural hair type... or my sleeping style.. I sleep way too wild...There are options besides locks though..

Man, I 'aint reading that 500 page article. WTF. Quote where in the article they said dipping slaves head in lye as punishment was how they came to learn the virtues of perming hair.

Because I'm thinking - and this might be a long shot for all I know - that if you dip a mufuckas entire head in concentrated sodium hydroxide, at a pH of 12 at least, their hair getting straight would be the least of their problems.

Oh shit!! WTF!!? My eyes are bleeding vitreous fluids and my left nostril just melted, I can lick my damn chin through the hole in my cheek  ... OMG! ...Wait. WTF? My hair seems to be all straight like massa's  ... ... maybe I can ...

:hmm:

I ain't reading the whole thing to find you the quote neither :hmm:
Its the part from goshen plantation SC.

I looked and I didn't see shit about what you are claiming.
Don't get mad. Just validate the [erroneous] statement you made. If you can, I'll concede. Simple.

There are many accounts of it throughout various slave narratives. That plus they had to wash with soap made from it too. Stop lying you didn't read the entire thing :hmm:

Look BG, you made the claim, not me. The burden of proof is on yo ass. Not mine. Just extract the part that's pertinent to your argument. Shit, I'm always willing to learn new shit.

And caustic soda, sodium hydroxide, lye, whatever you wana call it, is used to make soap. Fuck is wrong with washing your hand in soap made from what they use to make soap?

Anyway, I don't wana side-track the OP's thread so until you prove the shit you said ...

:itsawrap:

C/S 100%. Especially learning something new. Try to do it daily.

I cant say I'm going completely natural but i do plan on gettin some braids soon for a while because I'm tired of perming my hair. Perms grow out my hair too fast

"Did ya knuh dat massa used ta put a hot piece of metal on the butt of female slaves? And make dem stand above a bucket of water? And they would have to keep goin up and down into water? Droppin it like it's hot? That's from slave times."

aww desiree..;)

i remember u use to be in them natural threads wit a mean mug..
"not this shit again"..lol

yea i ain wanna rock no mini fro eitha..n them twists and straw sets wouldnt last a day..cuz i sleep wild too n im lazy..

what i did was grow it out and keep it pressed, keep my ends trimmed till all the permed hair was cut out..which took a yr-2 yrs (shoulder length)

thang is tho pressin it will eventually fuck wit ya curl pattern/texture...so once u all natural you'll have tight curls at tha root and loose at tha end..

so after all that waitin im still gon cut out at least half of my hair cuz half of its pressed and dyed wit my dumbass..but im gon grow it out too..cuz im hard headed n i hate short hair..

so the mini fro would be easier, faster..and shit gon grow fast as hell too..cuz it chemical free..

or mb some kinky twist..if u mess wit weave..

ok...i can understand people talking about the dangers of perms

i can dig people talking about the history of hair and all that jazz

those are some reasons why im considering going natural

but when people start those silly generalizations about how women hate themselves thats why they straighten thier hair... now thats some bullshit and ima always feel that way:hmm::lol:
