‘Get out of my country,’ Kansan reportedly yelled before shooting 2 men from India, killing one

By Samantha Schmidt February 24 at 1:28 AM
Garmin engineers from India, to “get out of my country.”

One of the Indian men, Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, died in the hospital later from his gunshot wounds.

Authorities would not classify the shooting as a hate crime, but federal law enforcement officials said Thursday they are investigating with local police to determine if it was “bias motivated.”

Adam W. Purinton, 51, of Olathe, was also charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder for shooting two other patrons at Austin’s Bar and Grill: Alok Madasani, 32, of Overland Park, Kan. and 24-year-old Ian Grillot of Grandview, Kan., who tried to intervene.

Madasani had been released from a hospital Thursday and Grillot continued to recover.

Witnesses told the Kansas City Star and The Washington Post that Purinton was thought to have been kicked out the bar Wednesday night before the shooting took place. “He seemed kind of distraught,” Garret Bohnen, a regular at Austin’s who was there that night told The Post in an interview. “He started drinking pretty fast.”

He reportedly came back into the bar and hurled racial slurs at the two Indian men, including comments that suggested he thought they were of Middle Eastern descent. When he started firing shots, Grillot, a regular at the bar whom Bohnen called “everyone’s friend,” intervened.

In a video obtained by the Kansas City Star, Grillot spoke from the hospital about why he stepped in: “It wasn’t right, and I didn’t want the gentleman to potentially go after somebody else,” Grillot said.

Just after midnight, Purinton, a Navy veteran, IT specialist, and former pilot and air traffic controller, was taken into custody about 70 miles away in Clinton, Mo., authorities told the Associated Press.

Assistant Clinton Police Chief Sonny Lynch said an Applebee’s bartender called police because Purinton told him he had been involved in a shooting, according to the Associated Press. He appeared before a judge in Henry County, Mo., and waived his right to fight extradition. His bond was set at $2 million, and authorities said they hope to have him back in custody in Johnson County soon.

In a news conference Thursday, officials declined to go into detail regarding the shooting and could not speak to whether it might be considered a hate crime. Olathe Police Chief Steven Menke said local and federal law enforcement “will continue to investigate any and all aspects of this horrific crime.”

Meanwhile, the Kansas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations called Thursday for state and federal hate crime charges to be brought against Purinton “in order to send a strong message that violence targeting religious or ethnic minorities will not be tolerated,” CAIR-Kansas Board Chair Moussa Elbayoumy said in a statement. Elbayoumy added that two Kansas men were sentenced Wednesday for their roles in an unrelated hate attack on three Somali Muslims in that state.

Both men were Indian nationals, a spokesman for India’s Ministry of External Affairs said. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said in a series of tweets that she had contacted the family of the man who was killed, Srinivas Kuchibhotla, in the southern city of Hyderabad and was making arrangements to have the remains sent there. “I have spoken to the father and Mr.K.K.Shastri brother of Srinivas Kuchibhotla in Hyderabad and conveyed my condolences to the family,” she tweeted.

Two diplomats from the Indian consulate in Houston “rushing” to Kansas to assist, Swaraj said.

Kuchibhotla and Madasani were employees on the Aviation Systems Engineering team at Garmin Ltd., headquartered in Olathe. Garmin released a statement saying it was saddened by the shootings and would have grievance counselors on-site and available for its employees in Kansas on Thursday and Friday.

GoFundMe account to help relieve medical and funeral expenses for Kuchibhotla’s wife Sunayana and their family. In about eight hours Thursday the page had raised nearly $205,000.

Maggie Grillot, whose brother was the third bar patron shot after he intervened, commented on the GoFundMe page, telling Kuchibhotla’s family she was “so very sorry” for their loss.

“My brother wishes he could have done more for your family,” she wrote.

Bohnen, the regular at Austin’s who was there that night, and who has worked there in the past, said Kuchibhotla and Madasani would come in all the time. Though they kept to themselves, they were always friendly and willing to share a cigarette or take shots of gin with Bohnen.

Austin’s staff gathered at an employee’s house Wednesday night to help each other grapple with the night’s events, and on Thursday, employees went into the bar to help clean up. Owner Brandon Blum wrote on the bar’s web page that he hoped to re-open Austin’s by Saturday. Outside the bar, flowers were left at a makeshift memorial, the Kansas City Star reported.

“We are so sorry that this happened on our premises,” Blum wrote. “We have never experienced any sort of tragedy like this in our 30 years.”

Trump has blood on his hands (not that he cares), and possibly now these white washed indians will have more understanding with regard to the terror and intimidation we've had to deal with (but it doesn't really matter).

Bottom line, we need to get out of our own way; right now. This is the time for us to hustle with each other and establish a small stable economy within the diaspora communities.

I read recently how the Mongrels (Ghangis Khan and his heirs) terrorized the world, artfully choosing who to attack and decimate and who to leave standing and extort, until they (bc of how they lived... within and around their own filth) brought about the plague (in the mid 14th century... around 1340) while attacking Genoese. At the time Europe was at the very bottom of the totem pole... nobody gave a flying fuck about it. At the time the center of the world was in and around Bagdad. Muslims controlled trade, information, and set the standard which Europe could not follow or compete with. The Mongrels, during this particular attack (and mind you they ran shit), suffered thousands of losses a day due to the plague. They decided to retreat, but before they did they put the dead plague infested bodies of those who died on catapults and launched them over the walls into Genoese, hoping the stench would kill their enemies. This "biological warfare" had another unintended consequence, it unleashed the plague everywhere. The plague, decimated Europe, the middle east and hit parts of north Africa (primarily Egypt). Ironically, the plague is what raised the fortunes of the Europeans. So many people died (throughout Europe) that everyone who survived earned more... and had more power. Wealth concentration was thinned out and Europe began to produce (first out of necessity... bc the plague traveled along trade routes) and then for profit. The production spurned on by the losses suffered during the plague, in some ways, bumped Europe up from the bottom and helped it create an independent economy. Since Europe wasn't established it didn't have its own established business customs and hierarchy (in the same way more established economies did) to revert back to. The old established regimes suffered bc new customs emerged and they were slow to adapt. The plague.

I say that to make the point that chaos and destruction are truly opportunities for advancement. What white people are clinging to, and on a deeper level trying to avoid, is going back to being irrelevant... like they were before the plague. The world has only very recently revolved around them... and they understand what that bottom positions feels like bc that was their spot. The bottom is now our spot.

During this culture war we need to stop worrying about their ideology and build our own infrastructure. Slowly, methodically, intently, and with the purpose of assuming positions of power, we need to build and empower each other. Build and empower, and build and empower, and build and empower. We've seen the ebb and flow of our existence here in the USA... our spot is our spot. We can operate within it and expand gradually with the understanding that they are coming for us.... again. These white folks (like the dude who killed the indians) inherently know the clock is ticking. They're a gross minority on the planet (170 million people in Nigeria along... 14 million in Sweden). Lets get ready... the transfer of power is going to be messy. It always has been.

It's a good thing Sessions will investigate these white supremacists. Oh, they're investigating the victims? There have been many municipals invoking shar law.

Domestic white terrorist are really feeling themselves since white hate groups were removed from the terror watch list. Bannon's handiwork in effect.

Asians have the education, 50% of all the tech jobs...bout time for the sleeping giant to roar.

Soon as I see a political groundswell, corporate shutdown, college takeovers ..I am all in.

If they stay silent and expect Black folks to speak up, get shot in the streets, so cops can use our families up as examples of "how we treat dissidents"
Fuck me supporting shit.

Other group gotta get some blood in the game, now

RIP and fuck white supremacy
