CLINTON, Md. — A Maryland man was already behind bars for allegedly shooting three people back in January in Prince George’s County, but now he's charged in the death of his nephew in South Carolina on Monday.

On Jan.11, Prince George’s County Police responded to the 8800 block of Clayton Lane in Clinton where they found two men and one woman shot. Police named 66-year-old Alfonzo Brown as a person of interest in the triple, non-fatal shooting. The people shot were Brown’s family members.

A little more than a month later, on Monday, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department in South Carolina responded to Brown’s a house for a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found his nephew, 34-year-old Jordan Dove with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

“This guy that was killed was his nephew," Sheriff Thomas Summers said. "He was just walking up to check and he pushed it [the door] opened and was shot.”

Summers told WUSA9 that Brown booby trapped the house. The gun that killed Dove was rigged at the back door to go off once any one tried to go in. The sheriff believes Brown set the booby trap before heading to Maryland where he allegedly shot his family members in Clinton.

“He left here to go to Maryland to commit the crimes," Summers said. "We feel like he knew he would be on the run.”

Summers also believes the traps were targeted towards law enforcement.

"Just goes to show the dangers we face on a daily basis," Summers said. "I’ve been doing this for almost 40 years and I’ve never encountered a situation like this.”

Alfonzo Brown is currently being held with no bond in Maryland for the Clinton shootings. He will be in court for his preliminary hearing on March 7.
