While it was not forced, Halle DID have a problem with the sex scene. I heard her talk about it on a late-night talk show. After reading the script, she was apprehensive. So she talked it over with her then husband, Eric Benét. His advice was: "Go for it." So while she may have said that she had no problem in some interviews, she obviously did initially.
Just about every actress has a problem with sex scenes, but just like every other actress she was also happy with the end result after doing so, it wasn't like she was curled up in the corner of a shower in fetus position crying about how dirty she felt afterwards. And hasn't Benet loOoong gone during this time anyway?!?!
Well Denzel has been able to avoid undignified roles for the most part, all his career, yet he never won a Oscar for his other roles, but as soon as he gets shot in the ass, which is not that degrading, in its own, especially for the character he played, he wins that Oscar, coincidence? I think not?
Especially after, that same year, Halle blew up in her Swordfish role, a part that Angela Bassett's turned down, due her feeling that the role was too degrading for a Black woman to play!
The underlining message sent to the rest of the Black actors, that year was, if you want to be successful in the biz, you have to be willing to bend over backwards and do what they say! I can say since Training day and Swordfish, our roles as strong Black figures has diminished!
But your not looking at all the things white actors have done themselves. Just about every great actor has played a mentally handicap person to get an award or become critically acclaimed. Imagine that happening to a black actor, we'd all be saying that black actors have to play retards to get awards then, but looking at the situation its not a black/white issue.
Were fighting the wrong battles here once again, we're going after Hollywood for putting actors/actresses like Halle & Denzel in roles that don't even affect our community instead of the buffonery that is Next Sunday, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, Baby Boy and actors that involve themselves in movies like them...
btw Halle blew up while before Swordfish, she simply showed her breast which is something just about every man wanted to see and she saw a huge bonus from it.
