G1 Owners Unite! The Official G1/Android Thread..News/Apps/Features All In Here

Once I find some apps, I mean will I be able to to get these apps "the bgol way"?

a majority of them are free. if you find something you want thats not free, its only gonna cost like 2 bucks. but there is another thread on here where someone uploaded about 700 apps. you may find what you need in there. do a search on "droid" and you will find the thread.

T-Mobile's G2 shows off again -- with Android 2.2, 800MHz processor

thumb_550_G2_teaser.PNG

T-Mobile's Scoop pages have a new entry, the T-Mobile G2 in all it's glory, along with some confirmation about a few of rumors flying about. Besides the HSPA+ radio, and the mysterious Quick Keys, we also see an 800 MHz Scorpion processor, Android 2.2 (Froyo) on board, and Adobe Flash 10.1.

Even if we didn't learn anything that we haven't discussed to death in the comments and the forums, a new picture of plain old Vanilla Froyo running on this one is always appreciated. Keeps throwing the bones T-Mobile. [T-Mobile SCOOP] Thanks FORDOC!

I sold my Nexus One!!! :(

I've been with TMO for 6 years, and the last 3 I was not getting reception at home or work. Before I sold it I flashed it with Cyanogen 6, and installed Launcher Pro. That ROM and app made the Nexus One, "The Perfect FUCKIN' Phone!!!" Period. I now have the EVO and I like it a lot. The wife has the EPIC and she's loving it. I personally like the EVO better than the Epic only because I prefer the 4.3 inch screen over the Super AMOLED screen. I think expected way more from Samsung than what see in the Epic. It running on 2.1 and TouchWiz sucks. I installed Launcher Pro on her phone and I'm still not impressed.

I think my expectations are so high because I'm looking for a phone to smash the Nexus One and it hasn't happened yet.

The launcher does suck but whats .3 inches??? the qwerty pad alone makes it the phone for me. I watch alot of movies and anime on my epic[look for rock player...like a vlc player] and im happy with it. Sense UI is fucking butt ass ugly PERIOD. My pops and lil bro have evo's and ive hooked them up with apps and even borrowed the phone for a day and just wasnt impressed with it at all. To each his own tho

I am happy with my Epic 4g. My bro in law has the evo and I thought I would care about the screen size difference but nah...it doesn't even matter, plus I needed a physical keyboard.

Can someone recommend an email app that is on par or better than the stock one...the stock one keeps crashing on my shit. I've searched the thread and have tried most of the ones mentioned. Thanks

I think its about time this board had an Official, Official Android OS thread instead of incremental posts on specific phones. In other news, G2 is pre-ordered

There aren't any phones out yet capable of smashing the Nexus One. The specifications are still too similar. The Gingerbread Motorola phone and whatever dual processor phone will be the first ones to make a Nexus One seem like a G1. Those phones won't be out until Christmas. If Gingerbread is only Android 2.3 it is highly likely it will be impossible for those phones to make the Nexus One seem like an antique software wise. On the hardware side, front facing cameras, new screen tech and higher megapixels will be the first place you notice a Nexus One looking aged, but even the G2 has nothing on the Nexus in those areas.

tried that today and I was not satisfied as there was no way to view HTML formatted emails. I'm testing out MailDroid now so far so good

Thanks for your reply
Not so. You should check your configuration. If the size of your message was beyond the limits you set to download a message may not display the contents properly. I moved to K-9 over another html related email problem in the stock app. The stock app wouldn't forward html messages. If MailDroid works for you then go with it. K-9 seems to be the most popular and most functional email program on Android. If you primarily use Exchange there is another app that is supposedly the best. I can't remember the name of it right now though.

G2 is looking nice. The benchmark numbers are looking real nice. Faster than the N1 reportedly

Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery App on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2
Eldar also confirmed my musings about the death of third party User Interface shells like HTC Sense, MotoBlur, etc;. Android 3.0 basically kills the need for them.

Still, there’s some hope for third party vendors here – while Google takes over the UI on the high end, vendors get to keep their UI shells/improvements on mass market Android smartphones, running Eclair or Froyo.

Update: I posted an update to this post, where I address Dan Morrill’s tweet, and do some corrections/clarifications regarding the upcoming Android update number issues, “minimum” specs – thay are actually only “recommended”, and the the split between high end Android 3 – low end Android 2.2 devices – it’s not an official Google policy, but it is happening nonetheless.

hmm...well IMO if I gotta do all that it's not for me. MailDroid worked out the box so to speak.

The latest update for the evo unlocked the 30 fps cap and improved battery life. No way im getting rid of it now until maybe next year.

Yeah, K-9's appeal is all it's different functions, but one man's feature is another man's headache. There are some obscure settings like whether you want up to 32kb, 64kb, etc., of data per message downloaded. I found it doing weird things related to that but I have 5 imap accounts to use with it and I don't want my app memory used for email messages. It does use alert colors correctly which most apps can't seem to manage. The default app and the gmail app are horrible in my opinion. I may try MailDroid, everyone who uses it swears by it.

T-Mobile sends me an email stating that I can pre-order the G2 yet when I click on it the next screen says I'm not allowed to update yet and I've had the G1 since launch :hmm::hmm::hmm:Does it matter that I'm on a bullshit flex-pay account?

you should click on "read more" so you can add it to the cart. Or just call customer care, they always take care of customers well.

Also, I dont think we should merge threads because then the shit just gets messy. I'd be willing to help organize the new one, but I only get 2 PMs now lol.
