G1 Owners Unite! The Official G1/Android Thread..News/Apps/Features All In Here

i'm still dancing from this. Much props again playa! Dro where u hiding at man?

I just peeped in! I had to abandon the thread for a bit because alot of folks are new to Android and most of what I saw being posted (apps) was kinda old other than the Nexus reviews and testimonies. I guess I will fold in next month if the Motoroi is still a rumor.

I don't think that I would especially since the nexus is unlocked. I really don't need T-Mobile for support unless I have questions about mybill. The phone is insured and I have a feeling that Google will make things available to the n1 first.
^^^^^^^^
its the same phone- what tmo support do i need? how to use the phone? warranty? i dont see the point.
if you want the phone in black ok
otherwise it seems pointless

HTC Sense Now Running On The Nexus One

Android dev Modaco has gotten his hands on a watermarked copy of the HTC Desire ROM. He has successfully ported the too big ROM (too big for the N1 by 200 MB) into his Nexus phone. This could possibly be what all you Sense UI fans have been waiting for, though you shouldn’t be too excited just yet. Modaco has stated he doesn’t plan to release this ROM until he receives an unwatermarked version of it.

Hit the jump to see the details about Modacos ROM.

I expect to see something come soon from either Modaco himself or another ROM developer. Just be sure to keep your eyes peeled for something. What’s everyones thoughts on the ROM coming to the Nexus?

===================================================

Gotta love being a dev for android in these times. Another reason why im gonna root my joint
looks like Ill be jumping on that.
So no negatives at all thats cool

Anyone have a version of Docs to Go for Android? Or can you point me in the right direction to get the app?

Ahhhhh shit. I hate asking a stupid question cause this is BGOL however I'm now the the Android phone thing.

On an non rooted phone (HTC Hero) is there a folder that Android usually stores downloaded apps? I've been searching my phone using Astro but I can't find where my Documents to Go has been saved. Its driving me nuts!!

Download AndExplorer from the market. Makes it much simpler to look.

Where did you download the file from? The browser? If you d/l from the browser it should have a folder named "downloads" and it should be on your sdcard.

Ok, apps from the market goto the system/app folder...using AndExplorer follow these steps to find the apk

System>app>look for the docs2go apk file.

You can copy the file to your sdcard from there

HTC Desire ROM for Nexus One with HTC Sense
By Taimur Asad | February 20th, 2010

Paul at Modaco forums has finally released a very alpha version of the HTC Desire ROM with HTC Sense for Nexus One that we posted about a few days ago. The ROM also packs Flash 10.1 for Android along with lots of widgets for the HTC Sense experience. There are some bugs and glitches here and there but since its an alpha ROM, these can be expected. Here is how it looks like running on Nexus One.

Nexus One – Booting up with HTC bootscreen.

You can follow the step by step guide posted below (on your own risk) to get HTC Sense from HTC Desire up and running on Google Nexus One phone. We are not to be held responsible if you ended up bricking your phone.

Step 1: First up, you will have to unlock the bootloader, and then root your Nexus One for full file system access on Android 2.1. Follow the guide posted here to unlock the bootloader, and here to Root Nexus One if you haven’t already.

Step 2: Download the patched recovery-RA-nexus-v1.5.3.img recovery image from XDA here, move it to the same folder as fastboot.exe, and then flash it by running the following command via Command Prompt.

fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.5.3.img

Fastboot tools can be downloaded from here.

Step 3: Download the HTC Desire ROM from the source link here and copy it to over to the root of the SD card on the phone.

Step 4: Now power off the phone and enter the recovery image by powering on while pressing the ‘Home’ trackball.

select “BOOTLOADER” –> “RECOVERY”

Step 5: Now you will be rebooted into custom RA recovery mode. Select ‘Backup/Restore’ from the menu to do a Nandroid backup.

Step 6: Now select “Flash zip from sdcard” to flash your Nexus One with the latest alpha version of HTC Desire ROM.

Step 7: Reboot your phone and enjoy HTC Sense on Nexus One!

NOTE: If the current Alpha 3 version of this ROM gets stuck with a plain white screen on reboot, to fix this, simply download boot.alpha2.img from here, move it to the same folder as fastboot.exe, and then reboot your phone back into fastboot mode of bootloader as mentioned in Step 4. This time select:

“BOOTLOADER” –> “FASTBOOT”

Now flash it by running the following command:

fastboot flash boot boot.alpha2.img

Everything should now be working as it should, here is a video which shows off the new HTC Sense experience from HTC Desire, running on Nexus One.

UPDATE 1: Alpha 7 of the ROM is now available. This version fixes the “stuck on white screen on boot”. Download links have been updated in the instructions posted above. The fix written in the “NOTE” section above is now no longer needed.

senseui is nice looking but its not worth it to me right now
I like my live wallpapers. The FM radio doesnt work and I dont miss flash. Not sure of the other errors/bugs it has.

Am I missing some advantage?

No, I just wanna see what all the hype is about.

Google Earth now available for Android 2.1!!!
google-earth-android.jpg

After a totally nonchalant, non-announcement type of showing by Erick Tseng at Eric Schmidt's MWC keynote last week (thanks to Phone Scoop for pointing that out), the Android version of Google Earth is now available in the Market for download to the Nexus One (and, in the future, "most" other devices running 2.1 or newer). Previously, it'd only been available as a mobile app on the iPhone -- a rare example of Google treating Apple's platform better than its own -- but with modern Android handsets getting extraordinarily speedy, it makes sense that they'd want to bring the graphics-intensive app home. It's not as useful as Google Maps in the strictest sense of the word, but with touch control (multitouch in particular), it's endlessly entertaining -- and assuming you've got an unlimited data plan and a few free megabytes of app storage space, it's probably a must-download.

I love this app for the pc

get barcode scanner from the market and you'll be able to scan that URL by pointing your camera at the screen and it'll pull up the app.

OK, Motorolla/VZW, where is the 2.1 update for the Droid
Oh ok. I have barcode scanner just never used it yet.

where's the thread where there was a website saying they had the verizon android for 49 dollars??? was that bogus?? and if not is it worth it??
thanks in advance

I've been holding out on picking up an android phone since I saw the image quality on the Sony experia X10. I want to use it for storing gps data when I come across potential 'location shoot' spots. I know all Android phones do this, but hows the IQ on the nexus1 from a photographers perspective. Most of the pics I've seen on flickr and picasa taken with the nexus one looked pretty bland but I don't think they were photographers to begin with.

You're a real photographer, shed some light. I'm not looking for miracles, but I would like to know if there's enough control to set my exposure, white balance etc. The basics so I can look at the location later and still have the same vibe I saw when I found the spot.
