I feel both of what yall saying...I was scared as hell to brick y only means of communication with the world

But I just sad fuck it and jumped in the river ready for whatever and it ended up being the best thing that could happen to me. With all the step by step instructions on how-to root your phone and dozens of ppl who've successfully rooted the phones....its no reason why you shouldnt. You got plenty of help here

same shit im talking about.. as far as i can see rooting seems to be the shit but i just cant wrap my head around it i think its cus its TOO many options. it's confusing. plus im tryna learn the terminology such as "flashing" etc.

i only got ONE phone to fuck up. its a big risk

I was in the same boat as you far as having only 1 phone to fuck up...Far as the terminology goes...you'll pick up along the way.

"Flash" is just another term for "Load" or "install"

"brick" is another term for yo celly just being as worthless as a brick...lol.

When you read through the thread you will see how many ppl are satisfied with the choice they made...and you will be too

For those NFL heads who wanna support they team

For anyone wondering these clocks do have hands i just didnt feel like taking 32 screenshots so i just posted the dials

Well this took a lot of pain staking clicking and mindnumbingly staring at my computer screen wondering if this was ever going to be done but over all it didnt take to long any ways dont complain if the clocks number colors don't exactly match the logo some had to be changed to be visible and don't ask me to change the colors either or the logo this took long enough

BTW Other themers ask before you use my clock or at least give me credit and don't just steal my work there was a lot of time spent in this so if you dont give me credit I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN SERIOUSLY I WILL jk just give credit where credit is do thanks to whoever made the carbon clock background

G1 fam... I'm going in... I want to see whats on the other side... BUT.. before i do.. I wanted to see what roms people a running. right now i'm looking to flash the HERO MLGIN (Rom) but just wanted to see what you cats are running before i jumped into the pool...

Found a modded HTC_IME.apk thas pretty fly

jh7urd.jpg

The font being used in the scrennshot is called "yank". Unless you want all of your text to look like this, I wouldnt flash it if I was you...but if you want it ill post it if anyone wants some different fonts

http://www.4shared.com/file/133176570/6964ad68/HTC_IME.html

VERY IMPORTANT...MUST DO FIRST IF YOU HAVE TOUCH INPUT INSTALLED ALREADY OR YOU WILL GET FORCE CLOSES EVERY 2 SECONDS

Goto Settings>>Locale & Text>>Uncheck the Touch Input Box and choose "Android Keyboard" as your Default for now.

You will need "Astro File Manager" for the next step

Open Astro>>Click menu and goto settings>>Application Manager/Backup>>Let it load up the packages>>Look for "Touch Input" and tap it open it up and click uninstall.

Now follow the instructions Below to install

1. Install ASTRO file manager if you havent already

2. Copy HTC_IME.apk to your sd card

3. go to menu, settings, applications, and check the box to allow unknown sources

4. Launch ASTRO file manager, go to HTC_IME.apk, click it and select install

5. When it's done, exit and restart the phone

6. Go to menu, settings, locale and text, you'll see a new option called touch input. Select the check mark and go into touch input options to specify preferences. Don't mess with the calibration option as this doesn't work on the magic (I tried, it just force closes)

7. To activate the keyboard, go anywhere where you need it, e.g. start an sms, then click and hold the text box, select input method, select touch input (you can change back anytime in the same way) and that's it!

Enjoy.

EDIT: Found Dudes Thread:D The download links are right next to each screenshot. To install just follow the instructions above and you gravy

Most of us are using Cyanogen's ROM. Im currently using 4.1.11.1[The last update before google went ape shit on dude for no reason]

His latest is a little more tedious to install but feel free to test out the hero rom and let us know how it is.

The only reason y i haven't rooted is because i don't have inmsurance on my phone. Its about the only thing that i haven't tricked out execpt my ps3 and i don't think there a hack for that

Well even if you do have insurance on the phone...when you root it you make it null and void

Not true. You just reinstall the original Android 1.6 before you return it. I had to do an insurance claim, and I was rooted, just reset it to the OG settings after installing the current standard OS.

Yea i understand unrooting the phone to return it back to what it was but he was asking insurance...

Yes it will but you can restore it:)

YouTube v.1.5.08 (eclair 2.0) with the quick video to upload button at the top and great speed improvements, HQ selected as default at on wifi

You *do* will need to push this one through adb or use sufbs to copy it to /system/app

it will *not* just install

You have to be on 1.6[Donut] or greater, so no 1.5 Cyanogen/Hero roms

YouTube.apk

Using Terminal[Download from market if you dont already have it]
$su
#cp /system/app/YouTube.apk /sdcard/YouTube.bak
#mount -o rw,remount /system
#cp /sdcard/YouTube.apk /system/app/Youtube.apk

Make sure you use the spaces or you WILL get an error. if it wont take using $su then try it without using the $su command. The first command is to backup the original just incase anything goes wrong.

*Tested* And it is a much BIGGER improvement than the previous as far as the UI is concerned. No lagging, slow loads, or other BS

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Google Maps 3.2 [eclair 2.0] works on 1.6[Donut] - Install using ASTRO[Download from market if not already installed] and you should be squared away

Maps.Zip

If your having problems installing...goto Terminal and type these commands

cp /system/app/Maps.apk /sdcard/Maps.bak
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/Maps.apk /system/app/Maps.apk

Don't sleep!!!! I've installed a few apps and it's definately worth the bandwidth. You don't have to install all the apps you can pick and choose.

Google adds free turn-by-turn navigation, car dock UI to Android 2.0

Those nat service providers' fears were actually quite justified. Google today unveiled Maps Navigation (beta, of course), an extremely upgraded version of its current Maps software that'll be free and, from what we understand, available by default on all Android 2.0 devices. All the usual Maps features are present, including the ability to search by name of business and have it suggest the closest matches, both semantically and geographically, and traffic data. We're also now looking at turn-by-turn navigation, female robotic voice and all, and integration with satellite and street view, the latter of which will be able to show you what lane you need to be in when exiting the highway, for example. Instead of just searching nearby, it'll also now search along the route for when you're looking for upcoming gas stations or fast food joints that won't take you too far off your beaten path. Select addresses can be added to the Android home screen as their own icons, and given the limits of living in the cloud, trips and their respective visual feeds will be cached just in case you hit dead spots along the way. Still no multitouch, but as VP of Engineering Vic Gundotra noted at a press conference, there's nothing stopping a company like HTC from adding that feature à la Sense UI.

In addition to demonstrating the basic navigational functions, Gundotra also showcased a new user interface that appears when the device hooked up into a car dock, one that is intended for use "at an arm's length away." Essentially, it means much larger iconography and a convenient "voice search" option front and center. We later got confirmation from a Google product manager that car dock detection was definitively a hardware-based feature, which we take to mean Android devices currently on the market won't necessarily have the same convenience. If Android 2.0 takes off how Google (and Verizon!) hope it does, companies like TomTom and Garmin are going to seriously need to worry about their bottom line.

Game Changer......

not the g1 not enough space left in phone. the mytouches more likely. i'm so tempted to jump to verizon but tmo has been good to me...imma give them a couple months to drop a droid like tmo device if not i'm out or i'm buying the gsm unlocked droid would suck to run it on edge but fuck it.

You forgive me but you must NOT have a rooted G1. If so space wouldnt even be and issue simply because most custom roms have a built in Apps2SD program. So if you got a 8GB or more SD card then you straight. And someone will eventually havev the .apk file for download

OK FELLAS I THINK IM READY TO CROSS OVER TO THE DARKSIDE!!

Yep I think it hass become NECESSARY now that I Root my G1..the lagging is killing me..I don't know why it's happening I dont even have that much shit on my phone.

So can anybody put me on the most fail proof and CURRENT rooting method via youtube instructions and point me to smoothest running flash rom there is out there right now??? I will give it a try if it will improve my phoens performance.
