Soulfood -
The most hype often goes to Merts which is uptown, but I really didnt like it.
I prefer Nina's
I also like Cuzzo's Cuisine by they mainly just do fried food and Lobster Mac n Cheese

Other
Stats (which used to be Blue Notes) is all right but the service is usually horrible
Londa's Spot has been open for about a year. They have a Caramel Cake that's banging.

Some Popeyes are black owned
Not the point.

If there’s 30 Black owned Popeyes it’s still corporate. When there’s a creative solo black spot with better food, a true hustle. You think it’s isnt hundreds of black owned McDonalds or Wendy’s? Shaq owns Krispie Kreme in Altanta. But if a solo black woman opens a spot why you lining up around the block at Shap’s joint? You can’t show her some love? Fuck the excuses of em being slow or bad service, do for your own. Shit ain’t hard. Good Hank Aaron and Shaq, but I’m going to find black only spots to eat. I went to the spots Easy B posted last year simply because he posted it. I can get a fish sandwich anywhere but I went.

I check for black owned spots in every city I hit, but sadly a lot of the soul food spots are just too salty to eat. 9 out of 10 times I find a good Caribbean joint that seasons with spices rather than just salt.

Me too. When I was in Florida I drove 20 minutes out the city for some certified beef patties. They even had the cocoa bread son!!!

Say..brah..how can I make spicy chicken at home...

Well if you know how to fry chicken and you use flour just add Cajun seasoning or another dry spicy seasoning to the flour. I put a Lil lawrys not too much. Black pepper, Italian seasoning and a good bit of Cajun seasoning in the flour.

To season the chicken I use, lawrys, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and matouk's pepper sauce. The longer you leave it in the seasoning the more it absorbs it. So half a day to 24 hours.also i poke holes in the chicken prior to seasoning so it gets inside the meat.

That's my way.

My wings are the best I have ever ate period.

If you want garlic wings mince a few garlic bulbs and take the edge of the knife or a spoon and press the minced garlic till the juice starts coming out. add to the chicken seasoning but cut back on the pepper sauce.

I don't use any hotsauce even remotely close to Frank's or crystals in the seasoning. Doesn't have that taste I want at all. I use pepper sauces based on scotch bonnet or habanero. Look in the carribbean section of your local supermarket.

Frying or grilling?

For frying my pops uses processed Spicy nacho doritos, flour, pepper, and chili powder to make the coating. You have to brine your chicken a few hours before in vinegar, salt, garlic, and water.

I'm a grilling machine, so I still do the brine, but I make a rub with salt, pepper, garlic powder, thyme, chili powder, oregano, paprika. Toss them on the grill at 250 for 30 minutes.

For a sauce, I made a remoulade and doubled up on the horseradish. I then made a sriracha honey sauce with just those ingredients. The sweet hits you first, then those peppers kick in.

If you're going to put pickles on, I'd go with deli pickles and not those soggy shelf pickles.

Hope that helps. I just made it this weekend because I'm not dealing with standing in a line for a fucking sandwich.
