Former New England Patriot "SHOCKED".....

...and angry at being informed of his trade to the Oakland Raiders. Talking about going from the 'penthouse'.... . DE, Richard Seymour--a 9-year veteran/age 30--stands to earn $3.7M this season (if he reports), but has yet to decide. Plus, he's not eager to uproot his family from the Boston community for a move to the west coast. Especially his schol-age kids.

After this season, he'll be a free agent. However, Seymour has been hampered by football-ralated injuries recently, making his 'availiability' limited in the free-agent market. But he will find a few suiters

Seymour's effectiveness with the Patriots has been somewhat tempered due to injuries, but will serve as an excellent addition to the Raiders, helping to shore-up their D-line. While his effectiveness for the Patriots are no longer 'up to their standards, such effectiveness might 'play' well with the Raiders.

Actually, that's what he's owed on his contract. However, he has to join the Raiders before being paid. If he doesn't report, that amount is forfeited. He has to 'report' within 5-days (including taking and passing a physical--upon which the trade is contingent). If not, the so-called "5-day letter" kicks in.

It's probably a 'rental' for Oakland. I think that 'free agency' will find him to signing with another team.

It was a money issue!!!!
He is a pro-bowler on his last year(that the patriots have been underpaying for years:smh:), looking for Albert Haynesworth's money($100 million over seven years).

The patriots have to sign Tom Brady and
Vince Wilfork by next year. You know they are signing tom Brady to big money:yes:, and they have to sign Wilfork because its hard to find a good nose tackle.

So they thought, why not get a first round draft pick from Oakland!!!
Since Oakland sucks so much, that's a guaranteed top 6 pick in 2011 for a patriots team that always picks at the end of the draft!!!

I agree. In most cases like this it's almost always 'about the money'. However, I hasten to add that palyers signing these 'big money' contracts, rarely collect the entire amount signed for...usually about a third (unless they're a QB or a Vince Wolfork). Then, again, Woolfork might be 'franchised", and then traded. Owners have been known to operate that way.

I think that Seymour wll probably 'play' for Oakland ONE YEAR, then he's out...in search of that 'money contract". I don't blame him (Seymour) one bit. The business-side of pro sports will ALWAYS come into play! In fact, I would not be surprised to learn that Dallas's Jerry Jones' decision not to resign T.O. had more to due with $$$, than the 'suggested' locker room problems. The fact that the reason given is plausible, does not necessarily make it believable.

I agree with everything you said 100%!!!
Thats why Football is the only sport, that I don't get mad when players complain about a contract, then hold out.

If you do well the team says "hey you signed the contract, live with it!!"
If you do bad or get injured, the team just drops you!!!

Football is the only sport that does not have guaranteed contracts, and they can get rid of you at any time, even with a contract!!!
In football its all about the signing bonus, because that the only thing that is guaranteed!!!
